View Full Version : Football Who would trade for Manning?

The Colts take Andrew Luck #1 overall in April, and decide to auction off Manning to the highest bidder.

Who on earth would be willing to trade for him? We're talking a MINIMUM of two firsts for a guy who will be good for one more season, tops.

I'd say the obvious landing spot is Minnesota, but they seem to like Christian Ponder.

Miami doesn't really have a history of doing this kind of blockbuster deal.

The Raiders are out, obviously. The Chiefs have zero history of making such a move.

The Broncos would be willing, they are linked to blockbuster trade attempts from time to time.

Jacksonville?

Yes to Eli, No to Peyton. Peyton is done, Eli has several good seasons left. The real question is when are the Chiefs going to draft a quality qb? 2012?

Under those circumstances, nobody.

No I wouldn't. It would just delay the development of the QB we take in the first. :p

No way Polian would trade him within the division. I'd bet a million dollars on that.

Sanchez and Flaco are average at best. Those teams will want to make a run now and would make a change at AB for a shot to win the SB.

I'll be honest. I don't know what the team should do about the QB position. I just know something has to be done. If we ended up with Peyton Manning, I'd probably question the move, considering we'd have to give up too much.

I certainly wouldn't cry about it though. I think Peyton is a great QB who still has 2 or 3 years left in the tank, and he might be able to get us a playoff win or perhaps even take us on a Super Bowl run. HOWEVER, it really is a terrible move for our long term success unless we also drafted a QB to groom while Peyton was here. Which considering our history...is very unlikely.

So it comes down to "how starved is this team for a playoff win/Super Bowl run?". Would you rather win in the next 2 years and be insta-****ed directly after? Or build for the future through the draft like good franchises do. I'd prefer the latter.

Molitoth

I believe that having Peyton Manning as our starting QB would get us into the playoff's on a Super Bowl run. I also believe that this would start a winning mentality in KC, and players will actually want to come play here on Manning's team.
Would it be scary because of his neck injuries? Yes. I think two 1st rounders would be a high price, but anything less would be a no brainer.

The question is, would it be more likely that the Colts would trade Manning, or would they be more apt to trade that #1 overall pick? Or would they draft Luck and groom him behind Peyton for a couple years? I haven't heard anything yet, but that time is growing near.

Personally I think the Colts will keep Manning and trade that number 1 pick to a team desperate for Luck. The Colts will have an awesome draft for the next couple of years and groom someone else to take over for Peyton.

Don't think anybody would trade 2 1sts for him.

But if you're the Ravens...or Bears....or any other team with a very solid defense and perceive ***ONLY*** QB to be the "missing link", then he could be worth an investment.

Why would the Jets or Ravens trade for an over the hill QB when they have a young guy who's respectable at the position already?

But, you destroy the future of the franchise past 2-3 years. Let's say the Jet's pick up Manning, trade Sanchez, and Peyton gets slammed to the ground and ends his career. They're done.... They wouldn't be worth a shit again till they suck bad enough to draft another starting caliber QB. I guarantee that neither the Jets or Ravens make the deal.

What future? Both guys are mediocre QB's that fans of their teams that are growing tired of already. These are 3rd year guys not rooks. Why trade a guy right away when you can keep him around as insurance? It's not like you are going to get great return on them right now. It depends on how the season ends for both teams, but if they continue to get lack luster QB play and Manning checks out as healthy you will for sure hear those two teams mentioned as suitors. In turn Manning isn't want to go to a team that doesn't have a chance do win. So that rules out teams like the Redskins.

FTR... If drafting a quality rookie is out of the question, then I wouldn't mind a trade for far less than two 1st rounders. A second (2012) and a third(2013) would be fair compensation in my opinion.

A lot of responses donít make sense. Thereís no F-ing way Indy gets 2 firsts for Peyton. At this point it would be like the Montana deal in 93. We gave up, what, a 2nd?

And the team that got him would not trade away any other option at QB (like Sanchez for the Jets), unless they flat-out didnít want him. You either believe in your guy, or you don't.

And the dumbest move mentioned is for the Colts to trade the #1, then look for a QB in 2 years. You donít pass up franchise QBs when one falls in your lap, just because the timing didnít PERFECTLY match up. You take the QB that will have you back competing for Super Bowls for the next 15 years, and start getting the ring of honor ready for the old guy.

I'm pretty sure we gave up the 18th overall and receives Montana and Popson in return.

Washington would clearly make this move imo - but i imagine Peyton would rather retire than play for that squad. Other potential players would be Denver or Seattle, but I think Washington would be first in line to trade for Manning.

Personally, I think this is a moot point and the better question is who will trade their team for Luck. The Colts are ridiculously committed to Peyton and I would lay $$$ that they don't trade him, ever.
