Colts fire defensive coordinator Larry Coyer

Indianapolis Colts 2010 Headshots

Jack Del Rio is not the only AFC South coach losing his job today. The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they fired defensive coordinator Larry Coyer.

In a statement released by the team, Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said, “The move was made to improve communication and production.”

“We feel this is the most effective and realistic way to move forward and win games this season,” Caldwell added. “We appreciate all of the effort and hard work Larry Coyer put forth in his three years with the Colts.”

Colts linebackers coach Mike Murphy has been assigned to the defensive coordinator position. Murphy is in his 14th season with the Colts.

It’s not at all surprising that heads would roll in Indianapolis, considering that the Colts are by far the worst team in the league. But the timing of the move is strange, as is the decision to single out Coyer when everyone in Indianapolis should be on the hottest of hot seats after this debacle of a season.

Coyer is the first to go, but it seems safe to say he’ll be far from the only one who loses his job with the Colts in the weeks ahead.

Yeah, Coyer was the problem in Indy

They'll all go, eventually.

You can't fire the entire staff at once.

Caldwell just wanted to fire someone before he's fired.

“We feel this is the most effective and realistic way to move forward and win games this season,

How can he say that with a straight face?

Why the hell not? They've got the greatest head coach of all time in Peyton Manning right there on their roster

They've supposedly also benched Painter.

They should prop up a lifesize cutout of Manning back there and run the Wildcat.

Did Luck sign off on that firing?

Pathetic. Either the Colts are a one man team or they're throwing games. How do you go from being 10-6 with a roster full of injuries to not being able to win a single game?

A losing season without Manning is understandable, but no wins? Something's rotten.

Yes, it appears the Colts want to ensure they pick #1 overall.

Don't blame them. Peyton has played his last down of tackle football.

How funny would it be if Orlovsky ended up winning them out? :hmmm: Nevermind took a look at their remaining schedule. They have a chance to win against the Jaguars and that game is in Jacksonville. I think they are going winless. Will be time to clean house.

It will be Orlovsky's first start since the 2008 season when he played for the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

Peyton Manning wins this year's MVP standing on the sideline.

Is he the one that stepped out of the back of the end zone and took about five strides not realizing he was out of bounds?

The very same.

But that's not why I'm here. I've come for Romeo. Now, we can do this the hard way, or the easy way. If you let him go peacefully, no one will get hurt.

Think of the children.
