Texas A&M has decided to fire football Mike Sherman but has not yet notified him, a prominent Aggie source just told me.

Houston's Kevin Sumlin would emerge as the A&M frontrunner. "He's the favorite of Aggie Nation," the source says.

Meh. I know some really like Sumlin but I am not at all sold on him.

If A&M could ever get the right coach they could really challenge Texas for control of the state.

No coming back from 5 choke jobs in one season. Liked the guy, but it's clear he doesn't have it.

Coaches have what to do with conference stability, exactly? Are you suggesting that teams who care about being in a strong conference should just hang onto their crappy coaches?

A&M will be paying 3 coaches now, as well as a massive Big 12 exit fee. They won't be able to afford hiring a big name.

As an A&M alum...sad to see him go. In my opinion, Sherman did a good job of recruiting but didn't have the killer instinct necessary to go for the throat of his opponents. I feel like this had a lot to do with the team letting off the gas after getting the big leagues this year. Every game it seemed like the offense decided to go into a shell right after halftime to try to work off clock and it backfired everytime.

NFL teams can sometimes afford to let off the gas fairly early as the defense can handle it. College teams are more prone to get into a rut and can't get back out of it when they need to restart.

They are gonna get Fedora. And he will only cost about $2 million a year, maybe less.

He will probably land another gig in the NFL. He was fairly decent most of his time in Green Bay.

I expect him to be an NFL OC next season.

They have already lost a JUCO LB. The 2012 recruiting class is a strong one--on paper--so I am quite nervous

Texas A&M will compete with Ole Miss and Miss State, annually to be the doormat of the SEC West.

The first thing aTm has to do in order to challenge UT for control of the state is to realize they are never going to challenge UT for control of the state.

A&M's supposedly decided on a replacement for Sherman.

Not officially reported but multiple sources are saying it's Kevin Sumlin from Houston.

Shall we bring Mike Sherman in for a look? He has won 2 playoff games since any Chiefs HC has. :D
