Best friend is a huge LSU fan. They're having a watch party out at their house, where they're serving gumbo among other things, and these people are from Louisiana and know what they're doing. However, I joined a local wellness program that meets at 6pm, and my friend's house is 45 minutes away. Considering I'll want to switch back and forth during Castle, I don't think they'd appreciate that...lol.

In honor of that crazy family, I have to say Geaux Tigers!

2003–04 season
See also: 2003–04 NCAA football bowl games (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003%E2%80%9304_NCAA_football_bowl_games)
These BCS bowl games were played following the 2003 regular season:

Thursday, January 1, 2004 – Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2004_Rose_Bowl):[20] (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/#cite_note-19) #3 Southern California (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_USC_Trojans_football_team) (11–1, Pac-10 champion) 28, #4 Michigan (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_Michigan_Wolverines_football_team) (10–2, Big Ten champion) 14
Thursday, January 1, 2004 – FedEx Orange Bowl (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2004_Orange_Bowl): #9 Miami (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/Miami_Hurricanes_football#2003_Fiesta_Bowl) (10–2, Big East champion) 16, #7 Florida State (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/Florida_State_Seminoles_football) (10–2, ACC champion) 14
Friday, January 2, 2004 – Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2004_Fiesta_Bowl): #5 Ohio State (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_Ohio_State_Buckeyes_football_team) (10–2, At-large) 35, #10 Kansas State (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_Kansas_State_Wildcats_football_team) (11–3, Big 12 champion) 28
Sunday, January 4, 2004 – Nokia Sugar Bowl (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2004_Sugar_Bowl) (National Championship) #2 LSU (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_LSU_Tigers_football_team) (12–1, BCS #2, SEC champion) 21, #1 Oklahoma (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_Oklahoma_Sooners_football_team) (12–1, BCS #1) 14‡
‡ Though winning the BCS National Championship, the LSU Tigers (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/LSU_Tigers) were not consensus national champions. The USC Trojans (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/USC_Trojans) ended the regular season ranked #3 in the final BCS standings, with three Coaches Poll (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/Coaches_Poll) voting coaches defecting from their agreement with the BCS to vote its designated game winner as champion, instead voting for USC.[21] (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/#cite_note-20) USC was voted #1 in the Associated Press (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/Associated_Press) poll, and the AP awarded USC their National Championship. So, the 2003 Season (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/wiki/2003_college_football_season) ended with split champions which is what the BCS was organized to prevent. Because of this split championship, changes were made to the BCS formula for the 2004–05 season.

I really wouldn't be surprised if it ended up something like 20-17, with a couple of big defensive plays/short field TDs... but, for some reason people can't get 9-6 out of their head and think all rematches are exactly like the first game.

Of course, given only the extremes, I'd rather watch the high flying offenses, but I didn't think the first game was that bad... there were several decent drives, and it was a very hard hitting game. In some ways, it was nice to watch it opposite OSU/KSU and all of their ~4 play/~80 yard drives.

Dayze
01-09-2012, 12:24 PM
admittedly, I'm a Bama fan. Also, I love defensive games, so the 9-6 game didn't bother me (aside from the loss). I think defensive games make big plays that much more important etc. So, I don't need a 42-35 type game to be entertained, but I'm in the minority I suspect.

Can't wait for the game tonight.

I don't see another 9-6 game. I think it will be very close to the current over/under of 40.5.

Anyone who would rather watch the Baylor/Washington or Oregon/Wisconsin or some other similarly awful scorefest over this LSU vs Bama game only pretends to enjoy football. Or they enjoy the atmosphere or the social aspect of watching football or something. But certainly not the sport itself.

They're casual fans... and the majority. That's why the game is progressively skewed towards offense, favored by these casual, short-attention span fans.

Oregon/Wisconsin was ridiculous, just like watching LSU try to move the ball in the 2nd half against Alabama was ridiculous (not that Alabama's offense was much better in the 2nd half, but I think they had one or two decent drives). Given those two extremes, I guess I'll continue to pretend to like football.

OTOH, Alabama had some decent drives in the first half of that game... and if both offenses can at least move the ball, I'd much rather watch this game than Oregon/Wisconsin. I'm hoping the 6 weeks to prepare will help the offenses.

There's a line between watching a good defensive battle and watching bad offense. To compare it to a "boring" sport, some of the best hockey games I've ever watched ended 1-0, and some of the worst games I've seen ended 1-0.

The first LSU/Bama game in October was sort of both. It was mostly great defense. Both defenses forced the other offenses to have to move the ball through the air. Both offenses don't really do so hot when they can't run to set up the pass. Both Bama and LSU have offenses in the top 25% of FBS, but the defenses are so, so good that it didn't matter.

That was a minor controversy this past week. They no longer have any plans to print them. Unsurprisingly, the guy who came up with that design had no idea that people would read a message of violence against homosexuals into that shirt. The internet outrage (from the Bama fanbase, mind you) got him to change his mind about printing the shirt.

LSU & Bama are, respectively, 12th and 17th in the country in scoring, 17th and 14th in rush offense, 105th and 71st in pass offense, and 2nd and 1st in scoring defense.
