Here's the next poll. I'm hoping it will take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile.

My thoughts:

#1 - Seinfeld. Isn't it obvious? The Kenny Rogers Roasters episode alone would make it top three.

#2 - Just Shoot Me. An incredibly underrated show. Some of the bit players like Kevin the mail room guy and Elliot's brother Donnie were all-time classics, and Nina Van Horn is, in my humble opinion, the best female sitcom character ever.

#3 - The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Great ensemble cast led by a charming woman that you couldn't possibly dislike. Ted Baxter, Murray, Lou Grant, Sue Ann, Georgette, the list goes on and on.

Didn't make the cut.

#4 - Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I think I've only seen one episode of this, and other than Will Smith, who is the coolest human being in the entire universe, the show seemed kind of wooden.

#5 - Beavis and Butthead. Last place. Heh-heh. Last place.

I cannot in good conscience vote for the over-hyped / played out / over syndicated show about nothing

If people see the Donnie episode, Just Shoot Me will rocket to the top of the poll. That was roll on the floor funny.

[Talking about Donnie's faked mental illness.] "It's terrible. The guy can sit and play video games for hours, but if you ask him to mow the lawn, he can't understand at all."

Once again, Just Shoot Me not advancing completely voids any remaining validity this poll ever had.

Random thought... did you all know that the house Fresh Prince is an actual house and not just a set. It is owned by Bob Newhart and he still lives on the property... just not that house.

Will Smith lives about 3 blocks away from the house that made him famous.

I think we should separate out the cartoons from the sitcoms with live human being actors.

That would narrow the field.

The Flintstones is a sitcom, I suppose. And Barney Rubble IS a great actor, but.....

Would be a fairer contest to break these two diverse types of TV shows into separate categories.

hometeam
01-19-2012, 12:17 PM
hell, this contest is chaos anyways, so many shows, votes and heats and all this flying around who knows what will happen!

Im having quite a bit of fun reading through these threads though, so i dont mind.

Seinfeld is pretty close to the king of comedies as far as I'm concerned.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was consistently good and had some pretty memorable characters.

I never really liked David Spade on SNL, but I think he did a good job on Just Shoot Me. I liked the Wendie Malick and Enrico Colantoni characters quite a bit too.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was decent but doesn't make the cut.

Beavis and Butthead was dumb. Maybe I just wasn't young enough or stoned enough to enjoy it.

Beavis and Butthead wasn't really a show. Most of it was just music videos followed by a 5 minute skit.

Donnie episode was hilarious...

One of the funniest episodes in a sitcom ever!

SHocked there isnt more love for this show! consistently funny, great ensemble cast.....got better each year.

THe episode where Finch tries to hook up with 2 girls.......and the police, and just about everyone else in the city...tries to help him pull it off....classic!

Watch those clips that I linked earlier in the thread, and tell me if it was a show for women.

It was a great show from top to bottom. The only character who wasn't strong was Maya (Laura San Giacomo), and she had other attributes (ahem, cough, cough) that made up for it. But David Spade, George Segal, Wendie Malick, and others were great.

I forgot about the threesome episode. That was awesome. Wouldn't he explain to the other people what he was trying to do, and then they would all earnestly jump on board? Everyone wanted to see it happen.

There was another episode that was great, where they were in a steam room or something and saw Finch naked, and apparently he had a gigantic...apparatus. They were all in shock and spent much of the episode trying to figure out how to ask him about it, and wondering why he didn't brag about it. They finally mentioned it, and I loved his line. He said something like, "I don't look at other penises. I didn't know. I mean, the only ones I've seen were in pornography and I just assumed that I was a little larger than average."

When I saw the first of these polls posted, I really wanted to post something to the effect of "why don't you save yourself a ton of time and effort, and save the board a ton of spam type threads, it's going to rightfully be Seinfeld.

/could have saved you a lot of work, but is also aware of your poll posting thirst which must be quenched

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is the funniest sitcom of all-time. It's way better than Seinfeld, and I am a Seinfeld fan.

To this day I still laugh out loud when Carlton dances or when Will cracks a joke about how short Carlton is. So many great one-liners.
