Steelers' Roethlisberger settles alleged sexual assault lawsuit

RENO, Nev. -- Lawyers for Ben Roethlisberger and a woman who accused him of raping her at a Lake Tahoe hotel-casino in 2008 have reached a settlement that ends her civil lawsuit against the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback.

Cal Dunlap, the Reno lawyer representing the woman, confirmed the settlement on Friday but declined to discuss the terms of the agreement.

"The matter has been resolved and I have no further comment," he told The Associated Press.

The Reno Gazette-Journal first reported the settlement on its website. It also dismisses claims against Harrah's employees whom the woman had accused of covering up the alleged sexual assault in Roethlisberger's penthouse suite in July 2008.

Dunlap first told Washoe District Court Judge Brent Adams in papers filed last Nov. 30 that his client wanted to have a stay lifted so the case could be dismissed because a settlement was pending.

"All parties have reached a resolution of all claims and counterclaims," he wrote.

Adams formally dismissed the case Dec. 27 but neither side had publicized it until now.

David Cornwell, Roethlisberger's lawyer, and Ryan Tollner, his agent, did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment on Friday.

...
The Nevada Supreme Court had ruled against the two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback's request in August to have the case moved from Reno to Carson City because it was closer to where the alleged incident had occurred at Harrah's in Stateline.

The woman was a VIP casino hostess at Harrah's when she said Roethlisberger allegedly lured her to his room under the pretense of fixing his television. Roethlisberger was in town for a celebrity golf tournament.

Roethlisberger denied the allegations.

The original lawsuit filed in 2009 sought a minimum of $440,000 in damages from the quarterback, at least $50,000 in damages from the Harrah's officials and an unspecified amount in punitive damages.

The woman said she never filed a criminal complaint because she feared Harrah's would side with Roethlisberger and she would be fired.

This is what I figured happened...
Hostess meets Roethlisberger.
He hits on her, she flirts back.
He invites her back to his room.
She accepts the invitation.
Things happen, (rape?)
He sad, "bam, it's over! Leave it, bitch".
She seeks revenge.

But what is her side of the story? She went to his room to fix his tv. :banghead:

Now, don't get me wrong, I would never in my life take Roethlisberger's side on this, but something is out of place here. If she would have said, "yes, I agreed to go to his room w/ the intent to have relations, but things got out of hand". That would have been more realistic.

He likes multi-talented women?

Don't most men? :D

I wouldn't rule that out. But given Ben's past history, it is unlikely. He probably did trick her and waped her.

Yes, Roethlisberger definitely has a past, but her story just sounds odd to me.

http://gossilicious.com/?tag=ben-roethlisberger

It all went down on July 11, 2008 around 10:00 p.m. In the report, McNulty claims she ran into Roethlisberger in the hotel hallway where he told her that the sound system on his television wasn’t working. He allegedly asked her to come and “take a quick look” at it. She then stated that she tried to call other hotel employees to fix the TV, but made the decision to go to the room to fix it herself. Hmmmmm. Once she got to the room, McNulty claims there were no issues at all with the tv (Go figure) — but as she tried to leave, Roethlisberger stood in her way and “grabbed [her] and started to kiss her.” McNulty said she was “shocked and stunned that this previously friendly man, that appeared to be a gentleman in her previous contacts with him was suddenly preventing her from leaving, was assaulting and battering her.”

I would think that the hotel would have a safety policy in place that states that female employees should never enter a guest's room alone. Of course, I don't know anything about the hotel biz, (where the hell is John when you need answers?).

Perhaps she just made a horrible decision to enter the room alone w/ him, and he did in fact rape her. If this is the case, I feel bad for her and Roethlisberger should burn in hell!!

I just think her story is a little "off".

It is possible. On the other hand, I'd hit it.

I don't really know the details, but an NFL player, especially a star QB should never have to rape anyone. Women come to them constantly begging for insertion. I mean, maybe, it's possible he did rape her and if he did, I hope he burns in a fire and dies. But you wouldn't think an NFL player would have to rape anybody.

But then again, this is Roethlisberger we're talking about here. LMAO Guy is not exactly attractive, (IMO anyway).

Yea they do, or at least most Major reputable ones do.
The one I worked at would not let a room service girl EVER enter a room, unless accompanied by a second employee and then only with the door remaining open (which door wedges were provided to all). Actually NO female employees were allowed to enter a room alone unless the guest had checked out, or was out of the room.. ie house cleaning.

The only time it was acceptable for employee to enter a room otherwise was for hotel maintenance or the Guest relations manager (me). And iin that case we were supposed to notify the from desk via radio when we entered & left... Though management had it's privileges, and I rarely did

Rapist don't commit this crime because they want sex. It's a hate crime and they use sex as the weapon. Rapist typically hate women for some reason, but instead of beating them or hitting them with something, they rape them instead.

I know that's what the manual says but the manual isn't right 100% of the time. I think there are a lot of rapes that happen outside the confines of "hating".

It doesn't matter if a woman accepts an invitation and even goes to his hotel room, it doesn't even matter if they start kissing etc etc. Once she says NO, its ****ing rape if he forces her after that. Why can't guys get that?
