View Full Version : Movies and TV Clash of the Sitcoms: Round 5, Heat 1.

Okay, we have 25 shows left.

We'll have 5 heats of 5 shows each, with the top 3 advancing. One other show will get in via the mercy round to cut us to 16.

So, vote for THREE, the number of stooges you see in the accompanying photo.

Now's where it gets tough. My thoughts:

#1 - Frasier. Ah, that wit.

#2 - Friends. Good, funny show for a long time.

#3 - The Big Bang Theory. I like it, but we'll have to see if it can keep up over the long term.

Didn't make the cut.

#4 - Married With Children. Great show and Al Bundy is one of the most memorable TV characters ever, but had a pretty limited repertoire of story lines.

#5 - The Andy Griffith Show. It's quaint heartwarming humor is appreciated, but I lean more toward guffaw-type humor.

It's hard to believe that Frasier could not only not be the top show, but could even get knocked out. Scary thought.

I mentioned it earlier, but I do think that Married with Children is a dark horse to make the final three.

No it's not. It makes me laugh harder than any show has in a decade. That's why it's the only one I voted for. I didn't want to hurt it's chances of moving on.

I keep hearing this criticism, but I don't understand it. It's a show with six people, three men and three women. Two of the women are exceedingly attractive and the third is entertainingly quirky. Two of the men funny, everyday guys. Ross is the only kind of whiny, effeminate one in the group, and even he is generally funny. And who can't identify with Gunther in the coffee shop?

I don't see how this is a whole lot different than other good ensemble comedies.

Frasier only.

If it doesn't make it, can we at least resurrect Howard Cosell from the dead to make the call?

Did you know that Frasier Crane made guest crossover appearances on Wings, The John Larroquette Show, and The Simpsons? (This is in addition to Kelsey Grammer being the voice of Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons.)

In fairness, wrt the latter, if Aunt Bea posted here, she'd be incredibly popular and would be getting private messages all the time as long as she didn't admit her age or post a picture. If she hinted at being bi-curious, she wouldn't be able to empty her inbox fast enough.
