Vikings safety Page attends open tryout for Dodgers

Perhaps taking his disappointing 2011 campaign as a sign he needs a backup career plan, Jarrad Page is pursuing other avenues of athletic employment, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Page, 27, has some baseball experience. He originally was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round of the 2002 draft, though he opted to attend UCLA instead. He has been drafted three times overall, most recently by the Los Angeles Angels in 2006, but he never signed.

Page played one season with the Bruins in 2004, batting .233 with three homers and 19 RBI in 120 at-bats.

Page began last season with the Eagles, but he was cut in November despite being third on the team in tackles. Before his release, Page was in the same New York nightclub as Giants receiver Victor Cruz when a man was shot and killed, although the Eagles stated the safety's release had nothing to do with that incident. He signed with the Vikings on Nov. 29 and had only one tackle in five games.

Page is scheduled to become a free agent March 13.

Guy overplayed his hand here in KC.
He'll be known for his ability to kill late Raider drives with timely INTs. Though considering it was JaMarcus Russell throwing the ball, that's not saying a whole lot...

My memory is a little fuzzy, but didn't he leave town because he wanted a huge contract?

Bring him back in.

He'd be a great backup swing-safety for us. With as dinged up as Lewis always seems to be, we could do a hell of a lot worse than a situation where Page comes in to replace him.

Page isn't a star, but he's a legit NFL football player and if he'd be content as a backup, we would be kinda dumb to pass on him, IMO.

I thought he showed a lot of promise. Good ball-hawking free safety with size. If he was acting on his agent's advice when he was doing his contract negotiating with the Chiefs, he should strangle the agent with piano wire. It killed his career.

Always has been. She'll always remember him for his monster hit on Tim Brown across the middle in Oakland.

ya, but he never really got any better too. He sort of hit his plateau during his rookie season or 2nd.

Really? As in, he can play both safety positions? Kind of like a swing tackle?
