Source: Colts to release Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.

Sources close to the team told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a press conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday with both Manning and owner Jim Irsay in attendance.

The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent, and sources told Mortensen that he intends to continue to play.

The four-time league MVP missed the entire 2011 season after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, a fusion of two vertebrae. His doctors have medically cleared him to resume his career and Manning has increased his throwing regimen.

Several sources have told ESPN during the past month that Manning's throwing strength has dramatically improved as his nerves continue to regenerate following his latest neck surgery Sept. 8. Dr. Robert Watkins, who performed the single-level cervical fusion, has stated publicly that he has cleared Manning to resume his playing career.

Manning has broken all of Indianapolis' career records for quarterbacks and had never missed a start before last season. He's taken the Colts to the playoffs 11 times, captured seven AFC South titles in eight years, won two AFC championships, one Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl MVP Award.

The Colts have the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft and are likely to draft former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

I stayed at the Stratosphere once. The first 2 rooms they put us in were trashed, so eventually they gave us a grand suite at the top. It was pretty nice. It's on the shitty part of the strip though.

We had to walk a long way to get to the MGM Grand to see Lewis Black. It was quite a journey.

One cool thing about the Stratosphere is the roller coaster at the top. Very fun.

If you like thrill rides, it's up there!

You're Peyton Manning. You have a Super Bowl MVP under your belt. You're about to turn 36.

Do you play for Kansas City, where the food is good and the fans are passionate, or Miami, where there are no state taxes, kick ass beaches, and great weather, minus the occasional pesky hurricane.

Do you want the Chiefs, who are loaded with young talent and have a coach that seems to be universally loved by th eplayers, or the Dolphins, who have talent, but are starting over from scratch?

Jets don't have the cap space and would Peyton wanna deal with that messed up HC and locker room? Doubt it. The Jets talks is fucking retarded.

Arizona would have about a week to get Peyton in and signed that way they could cut Kolb before his bonus is due. Don't see that happening either.

Seattle has shit for offensive talent and their HC is Pete Carrol.

So yeah, that leaves us and Miami.

Arizona really gonna dump a ton of money into another QB after Kolb? Don't think so.

He isn't going to Washington who have shit talent, a crazy owner, and he'd have to play against Eli twice a season.

Don't see Miami either...not elite talent and a tough division. Do they even have the money?

Forget the Seahawks, Jets, Browns, etc...not worth mentioning.

Chiefs make ALL the sense in the world.

Premium picks in draft to draft Many, many Guards
Solid run defense that lacks a NT

Luxury box revenue goes straight to the team and Clark sent 125 million of his own money to renovate the stadium to add a lot more luxury boxes. Straight cash in Clarks pocket, yo.
Local tv contract revenue

THIS

We are the Kansas City Chiefs. We've been ****ing up bread sandwiches since February 1970........

EXCEPT when they traded for some no-name QB named Joe Montana. Jesus Christ... Even if we aren't the team who gets him, I'd bet my username that Pioli at the very least makes a phone call to Peyton's agent to see if he has any interest in playing for KC. I'm sure, given his age and the fact he already has a ring, that location, playing environment, and playoff caliber team around him will play a role. The only thing the Chiefs have of those three are the team around him.

Now it's time for Scott to use some of the "excess cash" we have laying around and get his ass in here. If it's Peyton or a top FA DT, I take Peyton and draft a DT high in the draft.

Honestly, this organization hasn't won anything in 40 years. We haven't won a playoff game in 20 years. Sure, we've been there a lot in that time. But we have nothing to show for it.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is: I'm not going to get my hopes up when it comes to this organization. Manning would be nice. Even a manning at 50% is better than Cassel at 100%. But I just don't see it happening. Manning isn't about to learn a new offense. Whatever team he goes to will have to basically let him run the offense. I don't see Pioli allowing that. Cassel is his man, I suppose it will remain that way regardless how bad Cassel is.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

If he ain't coming here, maybe he goes to Washington or Miami. One down.

Flynn needs to go to Cleveland. One more down.

Just gotta outbid one team then.

wow.

What a shocker.

Washington is always the early favorite for every big name F/A at the start of free agency.

Are these assholes ever original?

Christ, I think Miami has been in the mix to sign every god damn free agent QB since Dan Marino retired, if you go by the national media.

Flynn has to go to Miami so there will be the battle of the wooly bearded gingers twice a year

I'd love to have Peyton Manning. But if it's not Manning. Please, just please don't let it be Cassel. Make SOMETHING happen.

Clark likes making Money doesn't he?
the only other move that could make more money for him would be drafting Luck or RG3 and that ain't happening.

so the next best thing would be signing Manning and hopefully he's told Pioli to Git R Done.

SNR of Chiefs Planet reports that Washington and Miami are the only two teams who are likely to probably sign Manning maybe. Unless it's some other team. Which it could be. Findings are preliminary and sources unnamed. Also, there's a little bit of speculation involved. But for the most part, it's Washington or Miami.

While this is true, the Dolphins have a better chance of getting to the Superbowl than the Jaguars do

But it could also be the NYJ. I know it may not make sense at all, but they're the only NY team w/o a Manning, so lets just go with it.

That will be a good thing considering Campbell f*cking sucks.

Which is the good part? The part where the team covets lower tier FAs? Or the part where they usually even lose out on those?

Well, there is precedent......

But do you really think he wants to face Brady twice a year with a rebuilding team?

I'd love to have Manning, but I'm thinking I'd love to have RGIII more.

Manning going to Washington or Miami helps make that possible. We just need the damn Browns to make a splash about a quarterback.

This team's biggest FA move in the last 20 years is Mark fucking Castle, but yeah we're gonna win the Manning sweepstakes.

I menat new coaching staff more than rebuilding team. At least Crennel is somewhat more established here.

Oh, the hell with it. Just go to Miami and enjoy the weather. And Dan Marino egging your house.
