View Full Version : Food and Drink Reheating your Burnt Ends?

I had a quick little visit / weekend vacation back out to the KC area this past weekend and picked up some Burnt Ends from [*Insert your preferred KC BBQ Joint here] and I wanted to take some to work so my co-workers could experience a taste of what KC has to offer.

Most of the people / places out here in Chicago land have no idea what a burnt end is.

Anyway.

What is the best way to reheat about 2lbs of burnt ends?

In a skillet with butter.

Keep in mind I've never had burnt ends in my life. This just sounds the most practical.

You would heat up bbq meat in a skillet in a pan with butter? Wouldn't recommend it. Seems like the butter would take some of the flavor away and the bbq sauce would probably burn.

What? The meat comes with the sauce on it? I thought the meat and sauce came separate.

I cook everything in a skillet with butter, so that was just my answer.

I had been thinking of putting them in the crock pot on warm the night before and then taking it to work - putting it back on warm and they should be good to go?

This is probably best. If you have to transport them to work, wrap it up in a couple towels and throw it in a cooler.

No. Connective tissue will continue to break down and you'll end up with a crock pot full of shredded beef.

Use the crock pot if you'd like to keep them warm after you've reheated them in an oven but don't leave burnt ends in it overnight.

Thanks guys
I will thaw them out in the fridge then wrap them in foil and heat them up in the oven before work

Then I will put them foil and all in the crock pot and take it to work - about an 1/2 hour before lunch i'll put it on warm and we should be good to go for some Burnt end tasting

You know you don't want to wait: Put them in a ceramic bowl, stir them a bit, cover the bowl w/ cling wrap, nuke em at 2/3 power for 3 mins, rotate the bowl 1/4 turn, then at 2/3 power for 2 more mins. Let stand 30 secs, so you don't burn your fingers, and eat em.

That is the way I cook my breakfast -I've been thinking of switching to lard

Crock pot won't even be warm in 30 minutes. I'd start the crock pot on high an hour before then drop them. A crock pot isn't going to destroy burnt ends in an hour.

Gates is a fast food restaurant now. Buy Gates sauce and maybe a pulled pork sandwich. Avoid all else.

Jfc Buck, I love you bro but you're a BBQ retard.

You have a couple options here:

Grill, covered in foil, low heat with your favorite bbq sauce. The old sauce will separate with the grease when you re-heat.

Oven, low heat (225-275) that way they'll come very close to the restaurants intended flavor. The sauce should preserve itself.

If you want them cooked further, bump the heat up but be prepared to re-baste.

I picked up quite a few sauces I was going to take the Gates / Jack Stack / Ok Joes / Hot OK Joes and Arthur Bryants and have samples of each for the people at work to try

You're going to be popular but next time take some Blues Hog or Firebug. Gates is safe. Arthur Bryants is pretty rough unless you're low-carbing it. Burnt ends demand a high sugar content/carmelizing sauce or rub, IMO. I'm not trying to be critical because I think what you're doing is awesome. It's probably time to pick up a little smoker to see if you have a passion to cook some of your own Q for your mates.

A FoodSaver is a must have for freezing/reheating bbq. Bring a pot of water to boil, remove from heat, drop in your vac sealed bbq, 10 minutes it's as good as I've ever gotten it to the first go around.

Ok - I put them in foil for about 25min in the oven at 375 - they were perfect

I stuck the foil and all in the crock pot and I just now added a little water to the bottom of the crock pot - and put it on high
