Such a great signing. I can understand the laborous process.

You've got a GM that prefers value, and a great RT asking to be the highest paid at a not-THAT-important position.

Takes a while for a marriage like that to work. I'm still not sure it will.

But until it doesn't fit anymore, we're one guard away from the league's best offensive line.

It must of taken a long time for Pioli to form that contract up to look like a coupon, so Clark would sign off on it.

Good week of free agency.

When I look at the three offensive signings the Chiefs made a see a situation where the sum could be greater then the total of the individual parts.

250lb RB/FB+TE+RT all working together = massive improvement for this team.

When you factor in all 4, it's pretty good.

Lose Carr, but gain Routte, Winson, Boss, and Hillis.

That's a pretty exceptional haul.

True, but this does restore a little bit of respect for Pioli IMO. Who really knows why Manning snubbed us, but this was a guy we needed to get, other teams wanted him and we got it done. Whatever else happens or doesn't happen in FA is fine with me now.

That's actually the problem.

With Charles to hand the ball to, and Thomas Jones effectively running it in the first half of 2010, Cassel looked competent.

It was an illusion, and that illusion can be recreated in 2012 with this cast.

The problem is that any good team can reveal the truth.

It isn't.

We're still a 1 and done team in the playoffs.

I was really looking forward to how many people were going to fall all over themselves, ignoring the "competition for Cassel" horseshit as well as the half-assed Manning chase and the Soliai miss once we signed a RT, backup TE and backup RB.

The guy still hasn't addressed the 2 biggest holes on the team - but lets all start sucking his dick...

That's actually the problem.

With Charles to hand the ball to, and Thomas Jones effectively running it in the first half of 2010, Cassel looked competent.

It was an illusion, and that illusion can be recreated in 2012 with this cast.

The problem is that any good team can reveal the truth.

Not only this, but that illusion is more than enough for a majority of Chiefs fans (and apparently the front office) to be perfectly fine with Cassel for awhile afterward. I've seen people as recently as a month ago post things like "He was a Pro Bowler" and "We won the division with him" on the Chiefs' Facebook page when someone comments that we still need a QB.

I'll be entirely honest, I almost wanted us to not sign anyone and go into the season with a garbage OL so that when Cassel looked like crap, there would be more than enough evidence to ship him out. Now, it looks like he's here for at least one more season as the unquestioned starter...

I do like the Winston signing. But I can't get too excited considering the QB he'll be protecting.

You do know that if we addressed the issues you mentioned (and I believe we will in the draft or FA) that we will be arguably the most complete team in the leauge?

I would give Polio props for making this team a player or two away from being a dream or a perfect team.

DeCastro is a fine pick, even at 11. He doesn't play a premium position, but at least he plays it well. His position is no less important to our offense than Kuechly as the Ted linebacker would be in Romeo's defense. And DeCastro is a better prospect relative to his position.

We need to trade down, but if we can't, taking a guy that is likely to be a HOF caliber player in a couple of years isn't the end of the world. I'll take another Will Shields at 11...

IDK about that. He certainly has failed in the Cassel area and thats the one that matters. This signing did come because of mistakes he made, but atleast he saw it and fixed it. Imagine if he acted the same way about the QB spot? Thats his problem and I am guessing thats your real problem as well. If we had a real QB we could say, well he fixed his mistake at RT and be pumped about the season, instead of talking about Quinn.

I got news...no one is going to have VALUE at that position unless something drastic happens.

Guard, nose tackle, middle linebacker, safety, pass rusher. It doesn't matter what position they play. Take the guy you think is the top at his position. If that's Decastro, then fantastic. Kuechly? Great. Poe? Fine.

The point is, we had a gaping hole at right tackle that was going to FORCE us to draft a tackle at the 11th pick. Now, we are truly free to take the best available player.

Since we're not drafting a QB, which is always a foregone conclusion, we're in position to take a chance. Ironically, this risk might mitigate some of the hurt from the Carr departure:

Winston is a fantastic addition to the team for all the reasons that have already been mentioned.

1. We have not had a legit RT in a decade.
2. Strong oline play helps running game, QB play, which helps rest the D.
3. We don't have to blow a top pick on a RT

This is odd, but I have not wanted a FA like this since Hugh Douglas.

I like the addition of Hillis, really want Tolbert.
I really like the addition of Boss. Every team needs roll players

For everyone who is bitching we signed a RT but still have no QB, that's just the position we are in. I liked the Cassel signing when it was made. It didn't work out, but its not like we have been passing on QBs left and right. There is nothing we can do this year so we are very limited in what we can do. Giving Orton a 5 year deal, is not something that is good long term.

I love where this team is sitting before the draft.

Sacks allowed don't tell the whole story. His total pressures allowed for the year were incredibly low (20). He had the 4th best run blocking grade for offensive tackles.

He's a beast.

Okay, my happiness is going up again.

I want to be really happy about this. Getting a right tackle will get us up to 10 players on offense, as opposed to playing with nine like we did most of last year. We just need a quarterback now.

Well you need to realize that Winston played a ton more snaps due to the fact that the texans didnt have Casell/Palko 3 and out back there...

Im willing to bet he had 100+ snaps more than Brich...

Well what a great day for me.

Get over the flu, get to come to the parents house for a week for spring break after a month of hellish dental school, first dinner at home, fresh frog legs. Wowza.

Come sit down to the computer, Chiefs signed potentially the top RT in the league.

Great day.

P.S then I see the Quinn signing, MEH.

It was 5 years for 38 million, but Pioli had a coupon for 20 percent off.

Who knows, maybe we can afford Manning.

I guess but look at it this way....

Dolphins didn't have much cap room.

Ravens re-signed McKinnie

Rams signed Wells

Redskins already spent a lot of money

Lions don't have much money

Looks like all the stars aligned.

Not only that, but a backup solid TE, a likely true number 2 corner, and a could be good running back.

It could be a really good free agent period if all goes according.
