Something that would naturally happen to the Chiefs. Have enough talent to make a QB look good, but not in an era when that could get you to a SB. Man that injury to Matt really hurt(us).

He will have a pretty good second half of the season looking at our schedule. I think he'll do a great job holding the clipboard for Stanzi. He might drop a hat or two though.

In a best case scenario, I do believe that Cassell can regain the form he had in 2010. That being said, he was nothing special and actually the very definition of an average QB in 2010. But really, that`s all I hope of him.

The guy can be anything between an average starting QB and the worst starting QB in the league. Let`s hope for the former.

If I may get serious for a second:

Cassel did NOT have a good year in 2010. Or at least, he was not a good QB in 2010. When he faced pressure and a good defense, he royally fucked up like he always does. Also, even in his "good" games he did his Captain Checkdown shit.

Of course. I can't speak for others, but when I say Matt could have a decent year I mean in the eyes of the front office or those that think that only horrible failure justifies giving up on him.

I hope Brady Quinn SURPRISES everyone and blows the doors off of Cassel and wins the starting spot. Then I hope hes sooooo good that he is the talk of the NFL, like Cinderella shit, and we win the AFCW and go deep into the playoffs. Of course a SB appearance would also be sweet....

Our only hope is that he sucks so badly the first few games that they pull him early and give either Quinn or Stanzi some time to right the ship.

I think if Daboll really does want to run a "wide open" offense, we have a great chance at exactly that taking place.

Now that I have dealt with the REALITY of the situation...let's talk fantasy.

Let's say Matt is the type of player that doesn't respond to the type of coaching Haley offered him and that was the prime reason he couldn't succeed here?

Cassel also only two legit targets to throw to in 2010. Bowe and Moe....and he had a decent stretch in there that he DID start to play very well.

He did... discount it...play it off as if it never happened, whatever, but it happened.

Peter King thought he was a MVP candidate.

Last year he lost his running attack, his "crutch" tight end and he didn't have the offseason because it was lost to the lockout.

The receiver they drafted in the first round to bolster the position was injured before the year started and the guy they signed wasn't up to speed in the new system yet...also due to the lockout.

Improvements over the situation last year:

Full offseason
Breaston
Baldwin
Hudson
Winston
Moeaki
Charles
Hillis
Boss

(How was that job playing devils advocate?)

I think it's POSSIBLE that Cassel steps it up a couple notches and gives us something to FAP to, but I don't think it's PROBABLE that he does so.

Probably, I mean who would think that his performance over the last three seasons would have earned him the de facto starting QB spot? Yet here we are. I still prefer to think that somehow Pioli will realize that Cassel will never have a mastery of the position. Its easier to swallow than thinking about him getting a contract extension next year.

Past history tends to tell us Cassel is nothing special. He can be ok when facing poor competition.

Past history also tells us we haven't been to the Super Bowl in 42 seasons.

What bothers me the most about Cassel is that his last 4 games before the injury sucked horribly. He should have been peaking and getting comfortable but he was regressing.

5 OCs in 5 years, he's shot. Andrew Luck wouldn't succeed in such a situation.

Damn I hate this 5 OC's in 5 years thing! Orton had nearly the same damn scenario (I'm not going to look it up, but Bears... several at Denver... on to KC), and he looked 10 times better than Cassel ever thought of looking after only a couple of weeks.

A good game for Cassel's is 8 out of 12 for 100 yards and a TD pass. QB rating is completely deceiving in that case.

You have no reason to believe that he will.

03-22-2012, 06:58 PM
**** it. I hate him. You know why? Because he sets this franchise back. He doesn't make us better, he limits our success. He's had 4 years in the league to prove himself, and all he really is a mediocre to slightly above average QB.

The best he has done is a 90 QB rating with 27TDs and 7INTs. Good numbers, dont get me wrong, but that is not in the class of the elite. And this was under an excellent OC in Weiss. What makes you think he will get better? Or will be poised to have a good season?

He rarely throws for 300 yards a game, ever! That alone is enough to convince me. And he cant duke it out in a strike for strike match against good passing teams This is no coincidence why we ain't a come from behind team. Because we don't the QB to rally us in the passing game. Like I said, he limits us in terms of success. He doesn't make us a multidimensional team on offense.

And you know what I'm really tired of? How this team tries to mask his weaknesses. **** it. That's not going to do anything. If the QB doesn't have the skill set nor the intelligence to play the position, what difference is bettering your team going to make? He is what he is. And this fat **** of our GM fails to realize this and diligently tries to protect his cutesy little golden boy....awwwww.

*And he will continue to make excuses like, "hey we are going to create competition at QB. If Peyton Manning was here, he'd be competing. GTFO We know Cassel is the starter and "competition" is just a coverup.

In tired of the bullshit. I want an elite QB. I'm raising my standards and not settling for this crap. But I know Pioli will do what he can to try to make him succeed and failing to realize that his experiment failed. It's time for a new breath of fresh air ONLY if our goddamn general manager can get his head out of ass and face the facts.

There is a difference between hoping he fails and having seen sufficient evidence to know he WILL fail.

Might as well hope that Andy Dick stays sober for the rest of his life, or Rush Limbaugh never says anything controversial ever again.

I don't dislike him as a person. He has everything you could want in a QB, except sufficient talent to play the position in the NFL. I deeply hate that he is the starting QB for the Kansas City Chiefs, and thus is wasting the efforts of truly talented teammates.

Matt Cassel fucking sucks. The way defenses treat Cassel is far more of an indictment than anything anyone on chiefsplanet can say. When Cassel is in, they just man up and stack safeties in the box, because Cassel doesn't have the arm strength to go over the top, doesn't have the brains to read the defense, and doesn't have the accuracy to make defenses pay. And he holds on to the ball for ten years, which is compounded by the fact that he shits his pants when faced with a blitz, even when he knows its coming.

Way to give up before the season even starts....I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that not too many people refer to you as a tough guy or macho. I'm guessing you are emo, goth or perhaps crust.

Hell, I want a QB who won't shit his pants just because it's fucking Oakland at the end of the season.

2010 Cassel is still Cassel 1.0. I was hoping last season Cassel could become Cassel 2.0, but he didn't. Therefore, I'm done. I don't see a Jim Harbaugh on this staff, and I don't see how Cassel is not going to be his usual soft bitch pussy dickless self quivering in the pocket when pressure comes his way. Look at this why essentially hes a 4th yr qb going into his 5th who has had a different oc since he has been in kc. That in itself is not fair to a player to ask him to learn a new system every year. Of course Im going to get the brainless idiots come back at me with CASSEL SUCKS or some stupid shit like that. Whatever be stupid. Fact is cassels in the league because he has some skills. Just accept that in order to win a Super Bowl you need a good QB. Good QBs don't make excuses like, "My OC got changed up on me every offseason." You either have the talent to at least demonstrate you've got the skills or you don't. Cassel has never once demonstrated his ability in that regard.

You are seriously overestimating Orton. He had a good game against Green Bay. No doubt. But, it isn't uncommon for a backup player to come in and play well his first game. It happens all the time because there isn't a lot of tape on the guy as a starter in a new system.

His numbers went down across the board in the three games he played.

Orton has at least once in his career had a legitimately good game. I'm not talking about throwing to wide open WRs after 7 seconds of pressureless protection. I'm not talking about throwing to Wes Welker and Randy fucking Moss, either. He has had a few games where he WAS the QB, and it was because of his skills that the team won. I'm not even talking about his average. He's done it at least ONCE. Hell, he did it once in three games for the Chiefs with a brand new team and a brand new offense in his first start. All this bullshit about "WAAAAH! SOMEBODY GET CASSEL SOME CONSISTENT OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS!" is pure bullshit. Brady changes his offensive coordinators plenty often. Shit doesn't happen to him. Like I said, the coaches don't mean shit. Either a QB has it or he doesn't. A fucking coach isn't going to help that or take it away.

Cassel has never and will never have that kind of game. Not until he learns how to spot an open receiver at least 20 yards downfield in under 2 seconds, get a hang of the timing, and complete the throw. Right now he doesn't do any of that shit. And at 29 years old (or however old he is) it's highly doubtful that he ever will learn.

But with the addition of Winston, Cassel will have a more comfortable pocket in which to take chances. We could see Cassel take more shots down the field, and with Baldwin, Bowe, Moeaki, and Boss, we have the big, athletic targets to adjust to poorly thrown balls.

Keep piling on the excuses for Check Down. Cassel just doesn't know how to slide his protections. In 9 games he was sacked 22 times last year. I agree with you on Cassel and his protections. It was downright pathetic last year when I saw the lowly Palko getting up to the line and getting people in place much better than our 29 year old QB.

I just don't see it. Cassel's play will have more to do with who he is facing rather than who we surround him with. Cassel can have the best of everything but if he is playing an elite to even good defense more times than not he will shit the bed right then and there regardless if we had Randy Moss in his prime running free down the sideline or Chris Chambers. He will just panic and not see his open receivers and do one of 3 things.

1. Throw the ball away

2. Throw it to safety valve regardless if he is open or has room to run with it on 3rd and 7 as he makes it about 3 or 4 yards before being group tackled.

3. Get happy feet and turn his head left and right too fast to be seeing anything and turn and run right into a defenders open arms for a free sack.

These 3 things have been the cornerstone of Cassel's game since he has gotten here. He has little to no redeeming qualities on the field and he should have had any chance of being the starter here removed by now.

Ho! We will line the offensive in the year of 2012, Charles will carry the rock while hillis holds the stones firm. The tight Hawaiaain end will hold on while Cassel grips it tight, the offense will be lined and hard, and the Chiefs will play good enough for Super Bowl.

It is my dream, for the Chiefs of Kansas City.

If he takes the team to the playoffs, won't you be happy with that?

Not even close. I want a franchise QB. With a franchise QB and this roster I would be disappointed with anything less than winning the SB.

My desire to get rid of Cassel at the end of the 2010 season was greater than at the beginning of 2010. His two worst games of 2010 were the two that mattered the most.

In 2011 he regressed from a house of cards that collapses under the slightest breeze to a wad of chewing gum on the bottom of my shoe. Now if he makes a new house of cards we are supposed to eat crow? Really? Really?

People amaze me.

Also, you guys better watch the lottery. I'm winning it this year. I just got a feeling. I bought like, 100 tickets and didn't win anything. I know that in the next few I buy I'm bound to hit the jackpot. Just you wait.

Lastly, watch out for GoChiefs' asshole. Just watch it. Monkeys are going to fly out of his butt this year. I'm calling it. The stars are lining up, and he finally has the tools he needs to make monkeys fly out of his butt. Remember in 2010 when he almost went all the way and got monkeys to fly out of his butt? The key point to realize here, is, if you have to build your team around your qb to mask his deficiencies to try and make him better, it sends a message that he sucks.

If we are going to win, it'll be because of good team defense and our rushing attack more than anything else.

Cassel will just be the game manager who will put up decent numbers. Don't expect anything more. If the Chiefs have to rely on him to win games, they are in trouble. He is the reason they are not a come from behind team.

Grbac had a mega arm, but no head. Cassel has heart, but nothing else.

Grbac played in an era where the defenders could rape WR's and TE's on their routes. Cassel gets to play Tecmo Superbowl style yet still fails.

But, I want Cassel gone. For the Chiefs to go to the playoffs, Cassel must certainly play well, which will keep him around another 2 years. So, what do we do? Hope that Stanzi or Quinn emerges and takes his job? Surely, we wouldn't root for a 2-14 season, right? I don't want Tannehill in the 1st. So, if not Tannehill, who? What QB would have a legit chance to take Cassel's job from him THIS season? Don't say RGIII or Luck. That's not going to happen.

I know everyone hates Cassel here. I neither like him nor hate him. I wanted Luck or RGIII or Manning. But, Cassel is our QB for this year. I think the offense is improving, the defense is improving and the Chiefs are getting 3 key players back. In 2010, Cassel had a pretty good year. This year he'll have a better O-line, WRs and defense. I predict that most of those who are trashing him now will be singing a different tune in December. Again, I don't like Cassel. I don't think he's a great QB. I'd rather have someone else. But, it seems that many are rooting for him to fail. Why? Don't we want the team to succeed? If he takes the team to the playoffs, won't you be happy with that? Or, do you want him to fail so we can draft or sign a mythical player to be named later? Fans always want someone else, but rarely know who. I hope he does good this year. I want a playoff win. On the other hand, if he chokes, maybe we'll get another, better QB next year. But, I'm sick of waiting for next year. I want success for this year. The Chiefs are doing more than I thought they would this year. I'm cautiously optomistic. Cassel is the man..... at least for this season. I hope he has another 2010 season (or better) in 2012. What say you? :hmmm:

I'm going to answer before reading the responses...but my sense is this isn't going to sell. You would have been better off with 'Dang it Cassel sucks, can we luck out?' I've seen enough..the guy is too slow to the outside unable to effectively execute a simple screen pass, delivery too slow, too slow with progressions and he doesn't have that tough Marino demeanor to lower the boom on the line when they screw up. He takes too long in his wind up and doesn't have the deep ball. It didn't work and given what he accomplished in NE we should have seen all this in year two and moved on. I don't know what is going to happen but its very disappointing we didn't resign Orton. That would have given us a chance at least.

Let's say this corps of players has a 5 year window. Even that might be generous, but let's put it at 5. I don't think those are the only options. We don't know what we have in Stanzi, we don't know if we will draft a QB, we don't know how Quinn will work out. I'm not convinced that Pioli is as stupid about Cassel as you guys think he is. I don't think they are locked in to Cassel even this year if one of the others plays better. I think we have enough talent on this team to contend even with an average QB. I would rather have a franchise QB, but how many teams do? There are really only a handful in the NFL. You can wish you had the next Peyton Manning, but realistically there isn't much chance of that, so we have to try to win with what is available. There is certainly no guarantee that a Luck or RGIII would be ready before the window closes either.

You can win a SB with a talented roster with a 2nd tier QB, even today.

Half of my Stanzi support comes from watching his improvement at Iowa and seeing what he did in the preseason with the abortion that was our 3rd string offensive line.

And I'm not afraid to admit this, but the other half of my support comes from an almost religious-like faith that he can be the QB this team needs to win playoff games. And that's kind of because I don't see really any other choice apart from trading up in next year's draft. And we all know what Pioli has said about multiple first round picks and trading up, so here I am back to Stanzi or bust.
