I would have to say Haith. Weber has been to the national title game and has had some tournament success.

Hopefully Weber is successfully at KSU.

What a limp-dicked hire.

Seems like KSU was going for the safe hire, I think they would have been better off taking a chance, even if it meant hiring Doug Gottlieb.

Weber did win 2/3 of his games at Illinois, but they have not been very good the last few years at all. Tough to put a positive spin on the hire overall, he has been riding that final four appearance for awhile.

Maybe the Weber hire can turn out as good as the Haith hire for Mizzou. I know Mizzou fans at this time last year were feeling just like KSU fans are feeling today.

Maybe Weber can get himself a strong recruiter, since that seems to be his biggest weakness.

Don't forget to bring your ear plugs K-Staters!!!

Really though, Weber is a great Xs and Os coach. IMO, His problem with not recruiting comes from him being a super good person. Hence he's probably always done it "the right way." Also he just comes off as kind of goofy to me and that won't impress the 17 year old phenom.

Then there's the program as a whole in terms of recruiting. Our facilities aren't as good as elite programs. And if the campus is 3 hours away from Chicago, why not just go to MichSt, IU, or OSU? If you're going to leave within two years who cares about state pride? Chicago is almost like it's own state anyways.

I really feel like Jeremy Richmond is the biggest reason Weber is now gone. He was the biggest recruit we didn't let slip through our fingers, but became the biggest headcase/cancer most programs have ever seen. If he'd had his head on straight and stayed for another year we'd have been a legit squad.

Him and we didn't have a replacement for Demetri McCamey who was an "in-game" headcase himself. Not recruiting someone to handle and distribute the ball is a great way to get the pink slip.

Lastly, we had no leader on the team. McCamey, for better or worse was our leader. Meyers Leonard wanted to lead, but proved too young and immature. Thankfully, he can change that.

Illini Football and Basketball have been downright depressing for years(a rose bowl ass kicking and lame bowl wins do not help). If it gets worse from here, so be it. It's funny, Ron Zook was the yin to Weber's yang. He could pull the out-of-state "blue chip" but made awful gameday choices.

As an Illinois fan and alum, all I can say is that I feel for the K State fans. I wouldn't wish Bruce Weber on my worst enemy's team. Here are his negatives as were evidenced this last season:

1) He runs an offense that is predicated on passing the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds then chucking up a desperation 3.

2) He doesn't shut up the entire game, screaming "Moooooooooooovvvvvvveeeeee" until his players start tuning him out.

3) He doesn't know anything about building a well-rounding team. This past year, the roster of around 14 players was made up of 11 small forwards.

4) He throws players under the bus at every opportunity, barely ever directly takes blame himself.

5) He went from a final four run in '05 to a combined 2 tourney wins in the next 7 years. Most of the Illini fans gave him the nickname Bubbles.

Even though the Illini coaching search was one big shit-show, at least we have a coach besides Brucie. I am actually pretty excited about John Groce.

An NBA team with 2 real pros and NO CENTER. Then Weber X'ed and O'ed them to the final and a 2 loss season. When did Self take us all that far? Maybe Self would have, but he choked here just like his early years at KU.

We ended up with Weber after others like Crean and Matta passed then and there are reasons why Smart passed now. Weber did his best and there's a reason why Izzo publicly defended him.

Solid long term hire - a term coined by K-State fans to make fun of dumbass KU fans who thought Martin was a bad hire. (As well as Huggins)

WilliamTheIrish

"Solid Long Term Hire".

It started after the Asbury firing. KSU hired Wooly. He was horrible (but oh so close to being good - if you judge him by the amount of close losses). However, he was nothing but a lovable loser. He continued that at KSU. He was "so close" (8-70 road record) that the shirt tucking fanbase and Wefald kept him for six fucking years.

If you back through the years you'll find the usual suspect rival fans give their glowing appreciation of SLTH coaches. Doc Sadler had a couple of close losses in AFH and many of the less critical thinkers were sure he would "get his team to the top, as soon he gets his players in there". Which of course never happened. Doc was also the beneficiary, by virtue of close losses, of being a better coach than Rick Barnes. "If he had Barnes' talent he would win the conference". Of course he wouldn't. Because he's a SLTH. And he sucks.

After Huggins left the same suspects mentioned clowns like Mark Fox. He had won a game as coach of Nevada against KU. Therefore, he was a "perfect fit". And he would "win the right way". Those are SLTH trademarks. I've seen em all. Altman. Asbury. Wooly.

Weiser broke the mold by hiring Huggins and Frank and Currie picked up the SLTH mold pieces, glued them together and viola' Weber is now the KSU BBall coach.

"Solid Long Term Hire".

It started after the Asbury firing. KSU hired Wooly. He was horrible (but oh so close to being good - if you judge him by the amount of close losses). However, he was nothing but a lovable loser. He continued that at KSU. He was "so close" (8-70 road record) that the shirt tucking fanbase and Wefald kept him for six ****ing years.

Here is my hope. Keep in mind that this is only how I hope it plays out.

1) Weber made no friends with his Bill Self funeral. If Self is any kind of a friend to Frank, he'll unleash the hounds on Weber and beat us by 55 for the next 3 years.

That should send the $ donors into a frenzy. Weber is fired and he leaves in disgrace and his voice actually goes up 3 octaves as he blames it all on the players.

It is my hope that John Currie is given the Braveheart treatment. His shoulders and hips should be dislocated. Following that he should be disemboweled. Than as he slowly bleeds out, the guillotine raises and he is asked to say his final words. In his last breath he is about to cry out something (probably "Rocky Top"), but I cut loose the blade and it slices through his neck and his head rolls into a basket.

The crowd screams out EEEEEMAW!

The severed head is delivered to Western Union with 200$ and a forwarding address to hell.

I thought the Illini fanbase hated Bubbles this last year, you KSU fans make us look like amateurs with your hatred before he even coaches a game. I feel bad for the K State fans.

Currie sounds like a clone of Ron Guenther, Illinois's former incompetent awful AD. That idiot extended Bruce a couple seasons ago through 2015 and didn't even include a buyout clause in his contract. In order to end the fiasco, the new AD had to pay him 100% of the remainder left on his contract (and had to do the same thing with Zook and the women's bball coach). Illinois paid 7 million in buyouts to fire three incompetent coaches. It seems that Currie is setting you up for the same problem.

Here is my hope. Keep in mind that this is only how I hope it plays out.

Maybe a little too much IRL knowledge here, but I married into Garth Gardiner's extended family (I think the hardcore K-Staters know who he is, right?). He's a good dude, I'll see him once or twice a year at family reunion kinda things, weddings or holidays. We're all supposed to meet in August...it's going to take every ounce of willpower I have not to prod him a little on this thing. Frankly, Garth could probably break me in half anyway so it's probably for the best.

This has to just kill him. He loved Huggins and may have even like Martin more. Weber is the anti-Garth, IMO. As big a booster as Garth is, he has to reflect the sentiments of a lot of the other big-money guys. This can't help the program at all.
