This thread is the result of an intense debate I had this afternoon with a Steelers fan over a couple of brews.

I may be a little drunk, but I think we compare favorably...

Casey Hampton, Steve McLendon
Kelly Gregg, Amon Gordon, Jerrel Powe

DE:
Brett Keisel, Ziggy Hood, Cameron Heyward
Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Allen Bailey, Amon Gordon

Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, Cameron Sheffield

ILB:
Laurence Timmons, Larry Foote, Stevenson Sylvester
Derrick Johnson, Jovan Belcher, Brandon Siler

CB:
Ike Taylor, Keenan Lewis, Anthony Madison, Cortez Allen
Brandon Flowers, Stanford Routt, Javier Arenas, Travis Daniels, Jalil Brown

S:

I haven't thought it through.

We need a better NT, hopefully Powe and Chapman, fingers crossed, can be those guys.

I thought the Steelers were thinking about letting Keisel go, I would have loved the Chiefs to grab him.

I am hoping Houston can bulk up a little to be able to set the edge a little better, something he did pretty well, but needs to be better at. It's something that Woodley is a stud at.

Run defense has never been a weakness of Houston's.

He was doing it well long before the passrushing turned on.

I agree. I don't think Kelley Gregg is going to be able to hold his gap. Personally, I think it's because he's not on this team.

I know he is good at it, I would jsut like to see him add some muscle and weight so not to get washed out. It's rare but he did have it a couple times last year.

I think if a guy like Upshaw or Hightower were to fall to the second they would be a great pick for us. We need some nastiness on d.

It's one reason I'm hoping Chapman is picked.

Steelers win on paperBut not by much at all. All it takes is a breakout performance from Powe or for us to draft Chapman. Maybe acquire a higher quality rusher than Sheffield- even a mid-late round pick like Bruce Irvin would do the trick.

I anticipate that by this time next year Direckshun's Steelers friend won't be as cocky anymore.

Why is Gregg listed?

I think we have a good defense, but I'm not gonna put them close to Steeler town yet. They have to do it on the field first and sustain it.

Why is Gregg listed? If he hasn't retired by now I would wager he's going to take one more go at it. Last chance to be a part of a Super Bowl run!

They were. Their LB core has gotten old up the middle, same with the NT spot.

However, I'm thinking of the Steelers d from 2 or 3 years ago.

Can I use the Chiefs offense from 7 or 8 years ago when we start comparing offenses?

NT:
Casey Hampton, Steve McLendon
Kelly Gregg, Amon Gordon, Jerrel Powe

They have the better starter, we have the better depth.

Sidenote: I think the Steelers may just cut Hampton to make room for Mike Wallace.

In which case, it's almost certain he'd end up in Kansas City.

DE:
Brett Keisel, Ziggy Hood, Cameron Heyward
Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Allen Bailey, Amon Gordon

Push. Both great units.

OLB:
James Harrison, Lamarr Woodley, Jason Worilds
Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, Cameron Sheffield

Steelers here.

Hali and Harrison are a push. And while Houston has what it takes to take it to Woodley, he needs to prove it first.

By season's end, this could be a different conclusion.

ILB:
Laurence Timmons, Larry Foote, Stevenson Sylvester
Derrick Johnson, Jovan Belcher, Brandon Siler

Chiefs, and it's not even close. Johnson > Timmons, Belcher > Foote.

CB:
Ike Taylor, Keenan Lewis, Anthony Madison, Cortez Allen
Brandon Flowers, Stanford Routt, Javier Arenas, Travis Daniels, Jalil Brown

Chiefs, not even close.

S:
Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Will Allen, Ryan Mundy
Eric Berry, Kendrick Lewis, Donald Washington

Steelers by a hair.

Interesting: Lamar Woodley is one spot ahead of Houston.

Maybe I'll do the full rankings later.

it's close on potential

we don't have a proven NT, which is the biggest difference

if houston plays like he did during the last 5 games of the year, our OLB's are the best in the league...he can be every bit as good as woodley

O.city
04-22-2012, 07:15 PM
I think Jackson, could be every bit as good as Keisel.

There is a shit ton of talent on our defense, it just needs some depth and for Berry to stay healthy.

It's not about "names" for Pittsburgh's D. They've had a legit D for years. The player development, system, and scheme they have is prittay, prittay, prittay good

I hope your debate brought up the fact that the Steelers D got torched by Tim Tebow.
