Every time I think of a movie and wonder "Hey I wonder if Netflix has it to watch instantly?". THEY NEVER DO. Fuck their instant selection. It sucks ass. Is Amazon's instant streaming better? Do they have a monthly fee for all you can watch in a month, or is it pay for each movie individually?

Not sure about selection, but you can do Amazon streaming if you are a Prime member, and that's actually cheaper than a year of Netflix streaming I think.

Oh so I have to purchase a year of Prime for like 80 bucks or whatever it is? No month by month option?

I think that's right. Otherwise it's just the pay per movie option.

The Amazon Prime list isn't all that great. There's a lot of obscure stuff but nothing that I've wanted.

Amazon Prime outside of that is worth having IMO.

I tried the one month free Netflix offer through my PS3 and found the same thing. It was great for cartoons that my kids wanted to watch, but apart from The Incredible Hulk reruns, I found almost nothing.

Amazon has a great selection but its turned into PPV for new releases. Pretty much all all instant streaming services have.

Its not all Netflixs fault. The big movie companies dont like the monthly subscription model so they dont license their titles to Netflix. They would rather you pay $3.99 or $4.99 for 24 or 48 streaming rental windows. Yes, just like the old Blockbuster days.

I been ripping all the dvds I get from netflix to my harddrive. I barely even use the stream service because I built a large archive of movies. I got about 120 more dvds on my queue then I'll cancel. Haven't had many that wouldn't rip. I love handbrake.

I kicked netflix to the curb shortly after they nearly doubled the price and didn't provide any extra value, in fact, they reduced the value.

The only way I can stick it to the man is to not buy their shit. I'm gonna do the same with cell phones, I don't need it and I don't like their business practices screwing the consumer.

We've come to a point where consumers need/want products more than the businesses need the customers and they are taking full advantage of that.

Every once in awhile, I come across an older movie I haven't seen or that I don't own and want to watch. Other than that, it's great for finding stuff to fall asleep to. I thought about canceling, but decided not to. If I want a new release, there's a redbox close by.

Netflix is great for catching up on old(ish) TV shows and watching documentaries. If you're looking for a good resource for recent movies, though, that ain't it.

I use Vudu for movie rental most of the time these days. Massive selection, and typically $3-5 bucks to rent. Redbox is cheaper, but I'm lazy.

Exactly......with Netflix, Vudu, ITunes, Amazon, your basically paying for convenience. The convenience of not having to leave your house.

IMO they offer great value.

I do not understand the hate, most of the complaints are not their fault.

Companies don't like them streaming, it is why very few good moviesare on there. It is mostly tv shows and kids movies, because no one buys those dvds. They are limited on what they can stream.

They got too good at what they do and scared the big companies with their dvds. This is why the companies charged them more and put the limit on when they can release them. They tried to pass it off with getting more streaming. People have no reason to buy dvds anymore because of this mode.

Only thing I do not like is the way their ceo discusses it. Just say we have to pay a shit ton more so we have to pass the cost on.

Or follow redbox, and buy dvds through 3rd party vendors to get around the 28day window. Might as well with the dwindling streaming. No one wants their content on there, it is one reason why starz left. Why pay for starz or cable when you can netflix?

Still a great value if you watch a lot of movies shows.

Sorry if the message in incoherent, on my phone.

Apple TV works like a charm.

99 for the box... if you have a mac or ipod you can play music through it, watch Youtube, etc.... all wirelessly

And movies are 5 bucks.

Good, new movies, too.

This! Also can do Netflix, MLB.tv, NBA, NHL, Youtube, Vimeo, etc. And stream media from any iTunes library in the house.

And if you want to get really creative, you can jailbreak the older AppleTV models and load XBMC, and have a whole new host of media to consume(mostly for free).

We have Netflix and Amazon. Netflix is ok for older tv shows, but it would be nice if they would update it once in awhile. For instance, they only have season 1 of The Walking Dead. We ended up purchasing season 2 through Amazon. The movie selection on both really sucks, but we rarely watch movies anyway.

For me the law should simply be that if they have a copy on hand, then they should be able to stream 1 copy to a user, if they have 100, then they could stream 100. Between copy write and patent law this country does everything they can to make innovation as painful as possible...

This. Fucking this.

I'm tired of people bitching and moaning about this shit. To me, Netflix is worth the $9 a month just based on the TV shows alone. There's got to be over a 1000 hours worth of award-winning TV shows alone. If you don't like the movie selection then cancel the damn thing. It's only $9 a month you fucking pansies. Holy shit.

Netflix used to have the Sony library then lost it when Sony wanted 10x more money.

Directv is streaming now and offers a huge library. But you have to be a regular customer.

The real bugaboo of streaming-only companies like Netflix is they don't have the license rights to a ton of stuff. You may see cable and satellite companies, who already have relationships with all the major studios, take over the space in the next 5 years.

What?!

You mean you don't want to pay $600 a year to have the privledge of having someone track your ass down on a moments notice just to inconvience you whenever?

I've never paid a dime for cell phones. Nada.

Don't own one, don't care.

The ultimate rip off.

Imagine what that $600+ a year could have bought you over the past five years...

$5,000 or having the wife track me down wherever I am...

Entitled? No. But the technology already exists to have every movie in the history of the world available to people via streaming. Hell it's already available by slightly less than legal means...

The issue is that the entertainment industry refuses to acknowledge that their media can be made infinitely more accessible than the old inefficient method they're using now. They refuse to embrace it.

People know that it's possible. But the industry remains greedy and arrogant. That's why so many people have the opinion that they do.

The issue is the disparity between studios and consumers on the value of their product.

Just because I choose to watch Blade 3 on an unlimited netflix subscription, that doesn't mean I would pay to watch it individually if I didn't have an unlimited plan. I wouldn't pay $4 or $3 or $.99 or probably even a fucking penny.

Yet studios think they are missing out on all those lucrative Blade 3 purchases, so they don't want me to have unlimited netflix.

The reality is consumers place very little value on those old/lousy movies. They barely rank above whatever crap is on regular TV.
