good question
considering how he got to the pro bowl to begin with

No.

He made it by default, anyway.

Hard to say. Dude has been relatively worthless since we got him (except against crap teams), yet the team has shown no signs of actually bringing in a serious contender for his starting job. This is in spite of what they "say".

No lets not kid ourselves. He's not still here because of that alternate, stat padded probowl.

He's here because he was Scott's hand picked guy and Scott's ego thus far isn't willing to admit his mistake.

The probowl defense is just the organization's default answer to the criticism.

They know, just like everybody else what he really is.

If Hunt can't see thruogh the smoke and mirrors, what can he see?
Your comment abou the probowl defense is spot on IMO.

I believe he'd be gone if he hadn't been injured last season. A full year at worse than 2009 performance would have ended the experiment.

I just don't see how they could keep him without that Pro Bowl selection as a scape goat. I mean you can't justify it without that defining factor.

Is the NFL doing away with the Pro Bowl game, or the honors too?

So even if there is no game, can you still become a "Pro Bowler"?

Yes. They will get rid of the game, but players will still get selected for the Pro Bowl. That way they will still be able to use that in contract negotiations.

I doubt it. Pioli still had JCs injury to excuse Matt.

Matt has NO f*cking excuses this year.

And I think the idea about Pioli's 'ego' is fantasy. I don't believe it's about ego at all, I think he just believes in the guy. Which obviously doesn't make any sense to the rest of us. But I don't think he sits in the office all day thinking "I'll show them!" I think he's making the same moves he'd make regardless of who the signal caller is, rather than building a strong defense to protect the quarterback. In other words, I think he just wants a strong defense. Although I would also say the offense hasn't exactly been neglected in the first place. The issue is that he seems to have tunnel-vision on one guy, he's been sold and bought a bill of goods that I just don't get. But that's not ego. It's called making a mistake.

I don't think it is ego either, but he does have an unusually large amount of loyalty to Cassel.

I think he'd been around, but as Stanzi's backup, only because I like the idea of Stanzi being ahead of Cassel on the depth chart and Stanzi making Cassel carry his pads to practice. Cassel's career comes full circle, a fitting end.

Pioli is giving Cassel a shot because he feels Haley held the offense back.

No....

Maybe if you take away some TD's and add some INT'S to that season.......

but for the pro bowl that he backed into? Nah...

He fired him midway through the season because he was happy with Haley.

Shitty QB. Stronger schedule and best offensive player out plus starting TE out had nothing to do with it.

But, by all means, go ahead and gargle Weis' nuts.

You seem to enjoy that.

Haley did a great job preparing the team for the 2011 season. Fantastic job going with Palko. That worked wonders.

Wouldn't make the difference. He still had a good year.
Pioli would've characterized it as a Pro Bowl-caliber season.
Same spin job with one more word.

Why are you clinging to the past?

Why are you clinging to the past?

Why are you in a thread that refers to the 2010 season if you don't want to discuss the past?

Haley did hold the offense back because he had a mediocre QB with a limited skillset. If you want Cassel to run an offense that depends on him to do more, you will be sorely disappointed.
