try to leave the steaks a little rare as they will carry over cook a little more in the sandwich

Shove one of the steaks in the bread

Sauce the steak

http://i.imgur.com/XyYT4h.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/XyYT4h.jpg)
I like to have to halves of the sandwich different so I use half thick worchschire sauce and half dijon mustard and horse raddish sauce

layer of bacon

http://i.imgur.com/Bstl9h.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/Bstl9h.jpg)

layer of swiss cheese

http://i.imgur.com/CiCUWh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/CiCUWh.jpg)

stuff in as much of the mushroom and onion mixture you can

http://i.imgur.com/zcWwkh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/zcWwkh.jpg)

then the other steak along with the juices from the pan

http://i.imgur.com/w5joTh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/w5joTh.jpg)

a little more sauce

http://i.imgur.com/nhYkkh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/nhYkkh.jpg)

top off with more swiss

http://i.imgur.com/ODiXDh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/ODiXDh.jpg)

put the top of the loaf back on

http://i.imgur.com/87qDxh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/87qDxh.jpg)

wrap in butchers paper

http://i.imgur.com/s4Uoch.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/s4Uoch.jpg)

wrap in foil

http://i.imgur.com/lTKemh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/lTKemh.jpg)

put a heavy cutting board on top to squish it down

http://i.imgur.com/cgNzPh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/cgNzPh.jpg)

now weight and wait and wait

http://i.imgur.com/d7Y5hh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/d7Y5hh.jpg)
I used 140lbs of weight and let it sit for 4 hours

take weight off

http://i.imgur.com/Vie8Zh.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/Vie8Zh.jpg)

cut and enjoy.

You've only accounted for two steaks. Do you eat one while waiting for the sandwich to flatten?

While that does look good, if I had 3 ribeye, I wouldn't fucking to that with them.

Salt.
Pepper.

You know how I know you are gay?

Because the only way that sauteed shrooms are better than sex is if you are getting a cock in the ass.

For the nerds that don't have weights or bricks, books would work as weight too.

We made 2 of them.

Pkg of 4 KC strip steaks $18
Hard crusted Italian bread loaves were $3.59 ea.
1 lb of bacon (we only used 1/2 of it) $5.99
1 pkg horseradish cheddar cheese was $2.59
Onion and mushrooms were less than $3
Condiments we already had so ???

I went ahead and weighted them in the basement on the woodstove until they cool a bit, then I'm moving them to the fridge for a few hours.

idk man that just doesn't look good. I'm sure it'll taste good for a bit, but I can't even begin to say how much it looks chewy and cold and yea, I gotta have a warm sammich that won't be a challenge to hold together taking bite after bite. I bet you'll need a fork and knife to finish it off.

Easy 6
06-03-2012, 06:03 PM
I said F it & went traditional, two 1.5 pound t-bones (one tonight, one to torture work pals with tomorrow) broiled with sea salt & pepper, a real butter & olive sauteed smothering of fresh sliced mushroom, fresh red jalapeno, minced garlic and last but not least, a Green Giant easy breezy, roasted potato, broccoli & cheese sauce steamer bag.

The steamer bag is pure, junk cheating, but i've got the Jones-Machida rental fight to watch, so eh, sue me i'm enjoying life... but the steak will still rock.

Bugeater
06-03-2012, 06:11 PM
Well, we went ahead and heated them back up in the oven for about 30 minutes, and that crisped up that outside of the bread which I really liked, and the inside was warm and cheesy and meaty which is good too. Although, they kinda expanded back up a bit which made all the weight and wait less meaningful.

Final verdict...it was pretty damn good, but probably not the best use of $18 worth of strip steaks. I think it would've been just as good with some pastrami or roast beef in it instead.
