View Full Version : Life What's your go-to sandwich concoction?

The pizza threads got me thinking. In my mind -- I'm an avid sandwich guy. I could eat them everyday and not get bored with it.

So, what is your go-to sandwich? Whether your spouse is out of town, you're looking for a quick lunch, or something to watch during your sporting event. Or you're just not much of a cook like myself.

Only one rule: It can't be from Subway, Quizno's, etc.

I'd say one of my favorites is:

Either oat nut/honey wheat bread (either or), 2 slices of bologna (I know, I know), a thin layer of Miracle whip covered in jalapenos. Wash it down with an iced tea.

So, sandwich afficionado's what's your go to 'wich?

Sliced chicken breast from the deli (sometimes Buffalo flavored chicken), Provolone or Swiss, tomato, mayo, and lettuce if I have it. On whole wheat.
If I buy roast beef from the deli too often I run into a nasty piece. And turkey is just a little too turkey sometimes. So, chicken is my go-to. Just had one today.

That or PBJ I guess. Crunchy Skippy and Strawberry Jam.

Another great sandwich, washed down with iced tea is a BLT.

Just add salt, pepper and jalapenos.

My own version of a Rueben.

I use pastrami along with the corn beef. Hot mustard instead of 1000 island. Drain the kraut really well. Grill it open faced and finish it under the broiler until the swiss cheese is bubbling and starting to brown. I always use a course strong rye bread too.

Fresh Rye Bread, fresh bread is the key to any sandwich IMO.

cool ham (not too salty), swiss cheese, dijon mustard, crisp lettuce.

I make a version of a rueben also. Just replace the corned beef with pastrami and the thousand island with catalina. Keep the bread, kraut and swiss as is. Very tasty!

Kretschmar ham off the bone. Best deli bought meat in the world. Throw it on a nice fresh hoagie.

Add some Miracle Whip, pepper jack cheese, spicy mustard, and a zesty pickle spear.

Money...

I also keep forgetting about the spicy, cajun chicken.

That stuff is the bomb.

I generally enjoy chicken or ham as my sandwich meat.

Awesome, cheap.

Fried peanut butter. I've turned a few here onto this sandwich, and it fucking rules all.

Do it like a grilled cheese. Be warned: The peanut butter turns into molten lava and will stick to the roof of your mouth like napalm.

Yeah, I'm pretty low-key on sandwiches, too. Generally I have a sandwich because I'm too lazy to walk all the way to the microwave, so it's pretty much just sliced turkey on bread.

Panini roll, roast beef, swiss, extra mayo, horseradish, salt and pepper. Always need a couple of kosher pickles and a nice tall glass of chocolate milk.

Also another choice is a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches on sourdough with a good cheddar and dijon mustard

replace your bologna with some thin sliced pistaccio mortadella , and you and I are sandwich twins.

Mortadella ftw

Also:

a thin spread of liverwurst adds a nice kick to a bologna sandwich too...mmmmmmmmmmmmm

oh man, I make BOMB sandwiches all the time. Usually pick a protein, often it's shaved steak, baked chicken breast, those frozen fish things, meat balls, ham, steak, whatever protein really. then I add lots of cheese, whatever I have on hand, usually mozzarella or cheddar. Slice some fresh mushrooms, onions and jalapenos on top. Bake it till hot, add some mayo on the bread and it's gotta be good bread that can hold this bomb ass sandwich and then I'll bake that on top of the bread. Add some mayo to the top piece and tomato. BOMB. So BOMB.

sometimes I do a buffalo chicken sandwich, those breaded chicken breasts from tyson work, bake them up and soak them in franks and add red onion, cheddar and mozz and feta or blue cheese.

I fucking love it!

I use mayo if I make a sandwich at home, even then only with certain cold cuts. I wouldn't use it with ham. If I'm ordering from a sub shop it's almost always oil & vinegar instead.

Could be true, but it tastes a helluva lot better.

We had the mayo/MW discussion in the lunch room at my first job. In that small sampling it came down to what you ate growing up. The MW people were all about MW and the mayo people were all about the mayo.

MW was invented as a cheap alternative to mayo, but about 5 years ago the price difference was negligible. Kraft changed the recipe to separate themselves and MW lovers complained like hell. I don't know if they went back to the old recipe.
