Chiefs sign free agent quarterback Alex Tanney, an undrafted rookie from Monmouth

Chiefs Sign Trick-Shot QB Alex Tanney
by Joel Thorman on Jun 5, 2012 10:19 AM CDT
The Kansas City Chiefs have a new quarterback.

The team announced the addition of QB Alex Tanney on Tuesday morning. Tanney, 6'4" and 220 pounds, comes from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. The Chiefs bio lists his impressive college accomplishments:
In just over four seasons with the Fighting Scots, Tanney played in 47 games, completing 1,339 passes on 1,622 attempts (82.6 pct.). He set an NCAA Division III record, throwing for 14,249 yards and an NCAA record with 157 touchdowns. He totaled only 30 interceptions. The Normal, Ill., native was a two-time Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009. Tanney was a two-time first-team Illinois All-State quarterback at Lexington High School in Lexington, Ill.
Tanney also had an invite to the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp.

Carrying four quarterbacks on the offseason roster makes plenty of sense considering the roster limit is now at 90 players. The addition of Tanney gives the Chiefs more options throughout the summer as they now have four players who can line up at quarterback.

But the real story with Tanney is that he's the trick-shot quarterback made famous by the YouTube video below:

Hilarious!

I saw his trickshot video about a month ago. Unreal.
Hopefully he stays on until training camp.
He's a longshot to make the team, but maybe he can catch onto the PS.

Kid played some solid college ball. He's a bit more than hitting goalposts.

In just over four seasons with the Fighting Scots, Tanney played in 47 games, completing 1,339 passes on 1,622 attempts (82.6 pct.).

I wonder how he got an 82.6% overall completion rating when his highest season ever was 71.5%?

PASSING GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yds TD Lng Avg/G
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex Tanney 12 181.99 281-393-8 71.5 3867 38 73 322.2 (2011)

Alex Tanney 2 105.16 25-41-2 61.0 224 1 60 112.0 (2010)

Alex Tanney 11 164.07 339-484-7 70.0 3856 44 60 350.5 (2009)

Alex Tanney 12 166.97 318-462-8 68.8 3624 50 89 302.0 (2008)

Looks to me like it was 963 - 1380 or 69.8%. Nice reporting there.
