Kyle Davies on the bump for KC. An historically bad offense knocked him around last time out, but he could fair better against the NL.

Wont take much. The Pirates have, by far, the worst offense in all of baseball. However, their pitching has been awesome this year, which is why they are over .500

Upon further reflection, I think this "defensive deviation" cost us perhaps only 1 run. I don't see Betancourt as a weird interleague deviation because even though we'd rather play Gio, Ned isn't regularly starting him. So, run in the 1st still scores. Hosmer's error didn't matter, so the next 2 still score. The 4th run might not have scored during the hilarious rundown failure.

Said he held on to the ball to long and as soon as he threw to Billy, the runner started home. Didn't want to throw Billy under it. Said that Escobar should have been the one in the rundown not Yuni. Didn't make much sense other than him not wanting to throw Billy under the bus for the not looking at 3rd. And obviously they didn't ask him to follow up on what he meant.

This has nothing to do with the fact that we lost the game but am I the only one who feels like interleague play has run it's course? It's fun for inter-city and interstate rivalrys but other than that I find it useless. The NL gets an advantage in their home parks by making our stupid pitchers bat and when they come to AL parks they get to be even with us.

I'm not crying "not fair" it's just not the same game. Yet even with AL pitchers batting in NL parks the AL still by and large beats the NL.

My advice to the NL and MLB is to stop thinking "purist" means better. The DH adds offense to the game, speeds it up and rewards guys who are good at the hardest thing to do in professional sports... hitting a baseball. Last I checked the team who scores the most runs still wins so lets handicap ourselves with one less real bat in the line up because it's the way the game was played in the beginning.

Btw I hate the NL lol.

You aren't the only one, but you are in a very small, vocal minority. Interleague is still wildly popular, and I also like interleague because it gives us a break from seeing the same damned 14 teams (mostly the same damned 4 teams) over and over again. I hate NL baseball too, but I don't travel to NL ballparks. I went to see the D-Backs get crushed by the Royals at the K, and I am far more likely to choose an interleague game at home than a standard AL game if given a choice.

Fine.

The NFL has interleague almost every week and the world doesn't end. The different rules are not a problem unless they force the Royals to play NL ball at home, thus ruining a otherwise-pleasant game you might go to see. There aren't many road interleague games, and if it bothers you that much, you are probably going to miss a few of the 162 games anyway, so don't watch those.

Answering the question of "What is the hardest thing to do in sports, if not hitting major league pitching?" is the hardest thing to do in sports.

Every professional sport is hard to be good at. That's why only the elite can do it. Football requires brute force, skill and toughness. Basketball and soccer require incredible stamina and skill. Golf... incredible skill and mental fortitude. Tennis... the same plus stamina.

Hitting a baseball well from a major league pitcher requires elite hand/eye coordination, excellent timing, patience, mental fortatude knowing that you're going to fail more often than you succeed, the ability to adjust in micro-seconds, the right swing, being able to go with pitches that change nearly every time, knowing what a pitcher is trying to do and the ability to bring all of those things together to hit the ball with authority.

Hitting a baseball is indeed the hardest thing to do in professional sports... imo.

Messier
06-08-2012, 10:14 PM
What is harder?

Well, I think throwing a football 60 plus yards accurately is harder, kicking a 50 yard field goal, returning a 120 mph serve in tennis, I think it's harder to pitch a 95 mph fastball for a strike is harder than hitting the ball.

I'm talking more the general ability to do these tasks and not the percentage of success. I think there are non professionals that could hit a baseball, I don't think vey many non pros are going to kick a 50 plus yard fg, or return a Nadal serve.
