I thought about it, but it might be bad mojo to steal it for my post.

At least his arm should be well rested.

I'll be damned.

Chen was the winning pitcher the last time I started a game thread...against another NL team.

Too bad this game's not on tv. I'm a MLB.tv subscriber staying in kc for a few months, and they won't even let me watch the away broadcast because I'm in town, even though it's not even airing here. Dumb blackout rules.

Yeah, the blackout rules are completely ridiculous. Apparently if you live in the same state as a team, you are expected to attend every game, home or away, if it is not televised.

On that note, does anybody know of a stream of today's game?

Yep. Props to Hoch for giving the pen such a break yesterday, and Chen if can can do it again today. I doubt that the Cardinals have had such good fortune themselves, so their pen may still be worn from our long game, which could be a big help in the upcoming series.

That's surprising. I'd expect that from Bob Davis, but not Denny.

Bob Davis would be refreshing these days sad to say... he rarely calls the Royals anymore (I think he was cut back to 60 games or something this year) but at least there is some enthusiasm in his voice. Having said that Bob gets a lot of stuff wrong so I understand why they've cut him back. I don't know what is going on with Denny, but there is much less excitement in his voice these days. I think he's getting bored calling games to be honest. That's what it sounds like to me. He's always been matter of fact with dry humor, but when there is no enthusiasm at all it just seems a little stale. Then again it might just be that its more noticable now because he doesn't have either Bob or Ryan calling the game with him. I've always thought Denny with either of those two work out well because you have the one guy who is matter of fact and he's balanced out with the over excited Bob Davis or Ryan Lefevre. When you have two guys who are exactly the same in their delivery it makes for a boring call. At least it does to me.

As someone else mentioned his call of both the tying home run against STL and Yuni's winning homerun were pretty bad. He made them sound as exciting as a walk. Maybe even less so. You're left there hanging a lot these days wondering what the call is too. I still love Denny, but he doesn't call the game the way he used to. He's still a very good announcer, but I don't think he's great anymore. I'm one of those people who have always listened to the radio while I have the tv on mute, but its getting to the point when Denny is there I'd rather just listen to the television guys. Pairing Denny with Physioc is a bad combo. Denny needs to be paired with Ryan or Bob because they just balance each other out so much better.

I've always loved Denny and I don't know what age he is but he's sounding old. His vocal quality isn't the same as it used to be. He's deeper and doesn't speak quite as clearly as he used to imo. I agree he's "lost a step." It could be that he's just getting old and worn out.
