View Full Version : Chiefs Convince me to not buy season tickets

Mr. Flopnuts
06-24-2012, 04:51 PM
I just snapped out of a cold sweat where I almost shelled out $1200 for a couple of season tickets for this year. I came close. I figured if there was anyone on Earth that could talk me out of this hefty purchase it was you fuckers.

Pros:

Chiefs games and tailgaiting
The Chiefs could win the division, maybe a playoff game or two, or who knows how far?
I popped over 10k at the casino, it's free money (Except it's just a portion of money I've given them in the past)

Cons:

3 hour drive each way to the stadium
God knows how much for parking
Concessions prices
The Chiefs could suck dick again this year (Christ, could you imagine the ramifications if all world qb Matt Cassel went down?)
I may get arrested should I haplessly drop a candy wrapper somewhere inside the gates

reasons not to buy season tickets

pay full price for preseason tickets
almost $30/game for parking
ridiculous prices for food/drinks
40-plus years of mediocrity
Matt Cassel

Its nice to go to one or two games a year. But with high prices, and the product they put out on the field, its easier and cheaper to watch from home.

Double the gas, and 28 bare minimum for parking.

1200 tickets
650 Gas
280 parking
300 concessions
750 booze and bbq

$3180 total. Minimum. $318 on average per game. Hadn't thought of all that. Really not a monetary issue at all at this point. It's the time commitment. I don't get both weekend days off, just Sunday. That's a crazy way to sandwich two work days. Fun as a motherfucker, but crazy none the less.

There's something special about the tailgating and how loud and crazy the place gets; but it's not something I think I need to do 8-10 times a year again.

Maybe 2 games a year maximum and I'm good.

I think the team is going in the right direction. It would make sense to pull the trigger on tickets this year.

But it is also tough because Arrowhead isn't what it used to be. Pricing out the average fan has done a few things. The atmosphere is good at times but not the same as it used to be...oh well...that kinda shit happens. The 90s were fun.

The only thing that would be keeping me from doing it if I had the extra money to spend on it would be the fans that are there now. Tickets are so expensive that people just lose their god damned mother fucking minds when the Chiefs don't do well, and that is their right.

Another thing is more and more people are being out of control mean spirited drunks. Sure...it is not supposed to be a Royals game and the intense hostile atmosphere is awesome but the number of people that simply can't control their shit and ruin the experiences of people around them seems very very high.

I know my reasons are sort of weird but it is stuff I think about.

I don't understand the "free money" mentality. It's not free. It just came easy (this time). You spent that $10k on crap you don't need then you'll have to use your hard-earned money on crap you do need. If you invest the $10k into your home, health, education, *edit* Air Conditioning so you can sleep, or equally worthy expense then you're $10k ahead.

This is what is sad to me.

Winning a play-off game is a successful season?Fock that,in to win it all,I had season tickets for 13 years and experienced the better part of the 90's including the home play-off win against the Steelers and at my age now am starting to wonder if I'll ever see my team win a Championship. So to hell with winning a play-off game,I say you want me back you better win it all.

The drive (mine is about 2 1/2 hours) is one of the reasons I didn't renew mine this year. It just became too big a hassel getting up and making sure we were on the road by 5am so we got "our" tailgating spot (same place every game we went to since '05) only to get back home at roughly 7pm, spend an hour getting all of the tailgating gear cleaned and reorganized.

In a couple of years when the grandson is old enough to enjoy it, we'll go back to a couple of games a year. I'm done with season tickets though. The idea of paying full price for preseason games with very little payoff was another huge downside for me.

Cons:

3 hour drive each way to the stadium - There's a solution for that, and you'll have a designated driver.
God knows how much for parking - See comment above.
Concessions prices - Why do you need concessions after tailgating? Also, you can continue drinking on the way home.
The Chiefs could suck dick again this year (Christ, could you imagine the ramifications if all world qb Matt Cassel went down?)

I know I plugged the RV, but I just feel the need to say that, if you're looking for a reason not to buy them, do you really want them to start with? If the answer is yes, get them. Things will work themselves out. If the answer is no, then don't get them. :)

Exactly what I was thinking.

No kidding. I know he has better control than that. He probably just doesn't want to hang out with the Springfield crowd.

Can you blame him? :)

If it helps, most people sleep on the way up, seeing that we leave at 4:30 in the morning.

Anyway, I'm not going to push it. He knows it's available.

Flop the answer is obvious. Grow mustache. Get "Free Mustache Rides" t-shirt. Wear that on the Chiefs Winnebago and be the life of the party.

Why would he need to do that when there's a fat girl who likes pleasing people already on that bus?

By then, I won't be fat. :)

Also, I don't have any cigarettes.

but you'll still like to please right? Isn't that the conclusion from the other thread?

Seems like a win-win-win for Flopnuts.....maybe not so much for Mrs. Flopnuts.

The not having cigarettes part of my post was in regard to not being able to please him. I guess I need to work on my diversion tactics.

You have to factor this into your thinking. If you do it, every Sunday that is a home game means your Sunday is shot. You'll accomplish nothing outside of the Chiefs, which may not necessarily be a bad thing, but still. You'll get up at 5 am and roll back around 7-8 pm, and that's provided you get out soon after the game is done. I guess it depends on how badly you need that one day for yourself, or to get things done. The flip side of that is it's only eight Sundays in the fall, spread over four months.

You could probably do as others have suggested and sell them to get your money back if you have to. If they win a couple of games it wouldn't be hard.

I live 3 hours away, and I had season tickets for a couple years. Honestly the drive on the way there is not so bad, but after getting drunk in the parking lot and sitting out in the sun for over 6 hours it wears you down, which makes the drive home a big ass drag.

He'd be losing 8-10 days out of the year (my guess would be 8).

8 days though is 15% of the weekend days he'll get off in a year. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not generally as productive on Monday after a game either*.

*For me it's not that big of a deal as I'm not normally very productive at work anyway, so no one notices.

I went from 4 to 2 tix this year. They are simply charging too much for the preseason and parking to pay that extra $400 or so per ticket for those games. I enjoy the whole gameday experience of tailgating before, going into the game, then tailgating until traffic eases up. I've had the debate with too many people over the years about "value" and chiefs tickets. I have a buddy that quit going cuz it costs too much, yet he spends $170 per month on cigarettes. Another buddy said they were too much and now goes to the lake every weekend. It is all about what you want to do. I'm sure everyone on this board that thinks season tickets are a waste of money, spend just as much on some hobby that many on this board probably thinks is a waste of money. So, to the OP, if you enjoy the gameday exerience and have the money, then by all means, get season tickets.

Flopnuts estimated ~$3000, so I'm thinking no...

Phobia actually did it right a few years ago. He'd show up, tailgate, have fun, and wait for some sucker to give him a ticket at extremely reduced rates or for free. I've actually considering just doing that myself. Show up to tailgate and party, and if I can't score a freebie/cheapie, the sportsbar at the casino is like 10 minutes away.
