So...does Woodstock count as a movie or a full length concert? I can see where it might be both.

That movie has a phenomenal soundtrack. Not a "music based" movie in the sense that I think this thread is talking about, but it wouldn't be the same without the music it has.

oh hell yeah! great movie. rep! the songs are actually pretty damn good!
uncle fucker, blame canada, mmmkay (don't say shit say poo or doo mmmkay)
my fav is when satan is singing about being "up there"...hits the high note at the end. BRILLIANT!

my friend and I actually saw it at the movies when it first came out. spur of the moment alcohol fueled decision. we're sitting there in a mostly black crowd laughing our asses off until the part where they put operation body shield into effect! we were both shrinking down in our seats like.....oh.....my.....GOD! there CANNOT be a more racist moment in all of south park than that scene! (yes including the wheel of fortune episdode)

Good picks,I wished to hell I could find the opening theme to Streets Of Fire as it's not on the soundtrack.I'm fairly sure it's Ry Cooder but have yet to find it.

Although it loosely fits the "music themed movie" description, I'd still like to mention American Graffiti as a candidate. The music had a prominent role in the movie, IMO.
