Ortiz should be the Home Run Derby captain each year, whether he's participating or not.

Pure class by Papi.

For some reason, my brain is fried today, and I'm still not following. Help.

EDIT: Perhaps, after he bats once, he'll let Butler take his spot in the lineup?

EDITTT: Wow - my ruhtard is on full display today. I got it. Thanks everyone.

Impressive. I have to admit that I actually like the Red Sox. Ortiz is easily my favorite player on the team.

Technically, its still the managers decision who bats right? Not a player. Washington could insert whoever he wanted in ther if Papi refuses to bat.....but I'm not sure how many DH players there are on the team?

LOL, Ortiz is just trying to screw the Yankees out of getting homefield advantage.

Bravo.

Oh yeah, I would LOVE to see the reaction to that. Ortiz sits himself so Butler can play (which fans are now finding out ahead of time) and that coke head Washington plays someone else? Kauffman Stadium will be pulled up by the roots.

Besides, I doubt Ortiz would have announced it with out first running by Washington.

And that detracts from it how?

If anything I think it adds to it. I love seeing Yankees shown up. Double bonus.

Part of me wants this to be a dastardly plan by Robinson Cano, who starts this rumor, only for it to end with Ortiz getting literally torn apart by fans.

I guess I must be completely out of the loop on what is going on with Butler.

Can someone give me the cliff notes as to why Cano is the bad guy, why everyone is angry about that....and why is a big deal with Ortiz?

Is Butler an alternate? Did he not get on the allstar team? I don't get it.

Cano said that he was going to give a Home Run Derby slot to a hometown player if they made the All Star team because the hometown fans deserve that. Butler was selected. Cano then didn't select him for the HR derby. So, he got booed.

You should be able to fill in the rest of the story given the context of the thread.

So Cano wasn't just giving up his personal spot, he was the "coach" who picked the players in the HRD?

SO.....Ortiz is the starter and is letting Butler play because he wants to be the good guy and let the home town guy play in his home stadium All star game?

Yes on both counts.

Yes. Except Cano didn't have to give up his own slot. He got to select the AL team. I guess he could have given up his own slot, and given that he hit zero homers last night, he probably should have.

I heard the Cano comment on tape, I havent heard proof of Ortiz's comment (yet).

KK is a dirtbag who, based on his previous lack of journalistic ethics, should have zero credibility left.

Meanwhile Ortiz keeps shitting on the Sox organization for how they are handling him, putting even more negative mojo on the team. Yankee fans aren't really too upset with him about that. He is gonna have to smile extra hard to make up that 8 game deficit.

It's a nice gesture by Papi, but I'll never understand how he gets away with being so likable. He used PEDs and somehow swept it under the table. He flips out at the media any time the say anything critical about him. He rips on his organization all the time. He stares at his home runs. And he got in a fight with a pitcher who didn't even hit him. But he's got a great smile.

Meanwhile, anytime Barry Bonds farts, the media was all over him. He's just another product of ESPN.
