We did a tour of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon a couple of weeks ago, with a couple of other sights along the way (Arches NP and Antelope Canyon).

Anyway, the highlight of the trip was a hike to the top of Angels Landing in Zion NP. Has anyone else here made that climb? There was a sign at the beginning of the trail that warned that 6 people since 2004 have fallen to their deaths on this trail.

Here is a site that does a good job of sumarizing the entire trip in pictures.

HeHe, I was just thinking I'll bet the six casualties were all women that happen to be real bitches at home.

I've spent a week in the back country of Zion on two different occasions. Once in the Kolob
arch area and once around Angel's Landing. Spectacular area.

Those are some amazing pics. Zion National Park is definitely on my list of NP's to visit. That view from Angels Landing looks epic.

I went to Arches NP and Canyonlands NP (the section called the Needles) earlier in the year. The highlight was the hike up to see the Delicate Arch. Its a tough hike, but worth it in the end. Utah f***ing owns!

I've been there twice. The first time a couple of years ago in September wasn't too bad. We hit it up again this year in 100 degree weather and it damn near killed me and the wife. But we made it to the top despite nearly dying in the process.

Oh, I should also mention that my wife made the entire hike/climb to the top of Angels Landing just 3 months after ACL reconstruction on her left knee.

I've been to all three once in my life when I was 12. Dying to get back but have a nasty feeling I will not make it until the kids are out of the house and I'll be too old to want to hike it anymore.

Those pictures are awesome. Did you by any chance get to go to the Grand Canyon Skywalk?

A good place to go if you're interested in dying is the Half Dome in Yosemite.

They put cables up on it so fewer people would die

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5d/HalfDomeTraffic.jpeg/450px-HalfDomeTraffic.jpeg

but as you can see, stumbling a bit at that steep an angle is going to create problems, cable or no cable. And during the winter months they pull the bars and the cables just lay flat on the mountain. Adventure climbers then try to scale a freaking slab of iced over granite while holding onto a single rope. They've become quite good at dying while doing that.

Yosemite is actually incredibly dangerous. When I was there last summer, they found a body that had been jammed up under a rock for a couple of weeks (one of these three geniuses: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/07/yosemite-waterfall-deaths-witness-watched-in-horror-as-three-swept-away.html ) . The helicoptor came flying in below us when it landed (pretty surreal to watch a helicoptor from the rotors down as it flies maybe 200 yards to your right and 500 feet beneath you). People go there and just do stupid shit like try to swim in a waterfall.

The wife and I took a trip to Ireland last month. At the Cliffs of Moher, there's a big wall that says "don't go past this," and along with the wall there is a memorial to all the people who have died there.

Here's a pic of the wall that no one is supposed to go past.

Here's the reverse angle so you have an idea of what people are walking along:

I could have sworn I read this very same thread last week from the goofy red-haired guy in Denver.
