A woman who went to China's Changsha Central Hospital complaining of itching in the left side of her head was told by doctors that the source of irritation was a spider that had been living inside her ear canal for five days.

Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her.

The flushing technique was successful and the woman reportedly wept with gratitude after being told the spider was removed. Doctors say they believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping.

A report by CNN states that spiders and other bugs are appearing in greater numbers this summer due to warm weather and drought conditions across the U.S.

"All insects are cold-blooded, so in extreme heat they develop quicker, which results in more generations popping up now compared to previous summers," Jim Fredericks, an entomologist and wildlife ecology expert with the National Pest Management Association, told the network.

Its almost kinda like when that women lick an envelope and went to the doctor and once he cut her tongue open he found roach eggs.

So the heat and drought in the US is causing more bugs and spiders in women's ears in China?

Every time I read one of these stories, I imagine that there's a tarantula crawling up the back of my chair toward me, and I have to turn around and look.

Yikes. My new house doesn't have screens yet so waking up with a bug on you isn't unusual by any stretch. Between this post and the rodeo 200 yards away blaring country music I think I'll start wearing ear plugs before going to bed.

I had a party in the country a few years back and a few of my buddies passed out outside and one of them had to go to the hospital because a spider had laid a fuckton of eggs on the side of his body under his skin.

Worst shit I ever saw...9 out of 10 in the grossness factor.

I agree with the rest of the "fuck spiders" crowd.

Emergency rooms see this problem pretty frequently. Here in the county hospital they have a toolkit specifically for the purpose of removing insects or broken qtips. Ive personally witnessed a cockroach, a moth and a broken crayon tip lodged inside the ear (child at children's mercy). The cockroaches are particularly gross, as they are "stuck" but not capable of moving backwards, they will usually dig their legs deeper into your eardrum as the normal human response is to try and grab it out. In my witnessed case, it was drowned in lidocaine which also anesthetizes the ear, then picked apart with a crunch then leg by leg. Enjoy!

I was about 2 or 3 years old and some how a gnat got stuck in my ear. Took a while with my limited vocabulary for my parents to figure out what going on and a trip to the ER got rid of it.

This might be my worst nightmare.

Mine would be being trapped on a desert island where ear-burrowing spiders are everywhere and at night they like to huddle up against me for warmth.
