Holdout seen flying to Kansas City Friday

UPDATED 4:14 PM CDT Aug 10, 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Holdout wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has reached agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs over his contract dispute, a source has told KMBC 9 News.

Bowe, who has missed all of the team's training camp, was spotted flying to Kansas City on Friday afternoon.

Bowe, 27, had been holding out while trying to get a long-term contract. He did not sign one before the league deadline for a long-term deal expired last month.

The Chiefs named him their nonexclusive franchise player last spring, which meant the team would have to offer him a one-year contract that would make him one of the five highest-paid players in the league. He could negotiate with other teams, but the Chiefs would have the right to match the offer or get two first-round draft picks as compensation.

The Chiefs have not yet confirmed that Bowe has reached an agreement with them.

The team plays its first preseason game of the year against the Arizona Cardinals Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

I am interested to see if by "reached an agreement" they mean that Bowe demanded the Asante Samuel language put into the tender and Pioli agreed to it.

Report: Dwayne Bowe agrees to report to Chiefs

Hours before the Chiefs open their preseason schedule at Arrowhead Stadium, reports out of Kansas City say that unsigned franchise player Dwayne Bowe is about to rejoin the team.

KMBC 9 News in Kansas City is reporting that Bowe has reached an agreement with the Chiefs, and that he was flying to Kansas City on Friday afternoon.

Because Bowe and the Chiefs did not reach an agreement before the July 16 deadline for franchise players to sign long-term contracts, he can now only sign a one-year deal with the Chiefs. So he has presumably decided to sign his franchise tender, which guarantees him a 2012 salary of $9.5 million. He’ll then become an unrestricted free agent again in March, or get franchised again with a tender amount of $11.4 million.

The Chiefs’ No. 1 receiver, Bowe caught 81 passes for 1,159 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Um nobody gave in and nobody got on their knees. He wanted a fat contract. The Chiefs didn't want to give it to him. The only option after the deadline was for him to sign the franchise tender, which he did. They can do that next year as well.

Exactly, you miss the string of 100+ degree days, get 9.5 this year, we sign you to this deal next year.
you have to trust each other though. Sketchy. I know.

But the lack of anything going public, VERY STRANGE IMO, shows things might not be as contested as most think. Not very common that a franchise tag situation goes as smoothly as this one publicly, excepting the missed camp time. No, numbers thrown around publicly from either side, which normally happens in these situations for one side attempting to leverage public opinion towards them

I just want him to get in there to get in sync with Cassel before the season starts; to get to know the new offense. As good as he is, he isn't Tony Gonzalez. He's not going to come in there after holding out forever and play great the first week of the season. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Bill Williamson: Moron

There’s no gray area among our AFC West poll voters this week.

They believe Kansas City holdout receiver Dwayne Bowe needs to get into the team’s training camp.

As of 2:20 p.m. ET Wednesday, a whopping 82 percent of the votes cast believe Bowe is in the wrong in his holdout, while 18 percent believe Bowe is in the right. He has missed all of training camp and he stayed away from the team during the offseason program.

I have to agree with the overwhelming majority here. I have been critical of Bowe’s stance since he didn’t report to training camp and I shake my head with each passing day that he doesn’t report. I just don’t know what he thinks it is accomplishing.

This season is critical to him getting a huge contract in 2013, whether it’s from the Chiefs or another team. After missing the entire offseason and then all of training camp, Bowe would be putting himself at risk of suffering muscle injuries. How many times have we’ve seen a player holdout from camp and then tweak a hamstring?

Also, the Chiefs are running a new offense. It’s going to take Bowe time to get comfortable in Brian Daboll’s offense.

Bowe will eventually join the Chiefs, but with each passing day, he is putting more pressure on himself. So, I can’t disagree with the 82 percent of the voters in this poll. Thanks to everyone who played along.

Pioli, pwned.

You have reading comprehension issues don't you? Bowe isn't gaining a thing by holding out.

He can't get a penny more this year so he is playing for next years deal. Holding out and getting farther behind doesn't accomplish that.

If you are now going to say the hold out won't effect his play then there is no loss for Bowe or KC so Pioli isn't being pawned.

So he is either hurting his performance and therefore screwing himself, or he isn't hurting his performance screwing nobody.

But that's quite a bit for you to digest isn't it?

Bowe will have a lot of value on the market no matter what, but it seems to me that if this offense is going to put up points without him, that would amplify the mistake Bowe is making here.

Pioli was playing with fire not getting Bowe signed. Surely he could have anticipated that if Bowe held out for an extended length of time, he might not be ready for the regular season, no?

Either Pioli has supreme confidence Bowe can just practice for a week and then start, or supreme confidence that he doesn't need Dwayne Bowe.

God, you truly are one morose bastard. "Misplaced joy." wtf dude. Put down the laptop, shave, go out and get laid.

Of course we're not throwing all of our passes to the running backs and slot receiver. But between Baldwin, Moeaki, Boss, Breaston, and yes two running backs that excel at catching passes (first play of game, Hillis split out wide), the offense should be just fine.

It behooves Bowe to get into camp. The ONLY reason to not show up is to avoid injury. That's it.

You still can't explain how Pioli is suffering right now due to Bowe's absence. Seriously, tell us your brilliant observation as to how this team is hurting without his presence?

They can't sign anything until after the season. They can agree to terms, but not sign the contract.

I think everyone here is going to assume this is his last year. Honestly, I think he either absolutely will be here for foreseeable future, or he is gone. I think the Chiefs likely already know if they want him. This isn't about numbers. If they want him, he'll be here. If they don't, he's gone.

Just curious about everyones opinion on which way Pioli is leaning at this point. Because I'm sure he already has made up his mind on the future of Bowe and the Chiefs. If I had to guess, I'd say Bowe will be let go after this season the same way Carr was let go. Some team will offer him a great deal and we won't want to pay as much.

Yeah, I don't think there's another example of this team looking for shit under his direction in the preseason. Of course, he wasn't exactly pushing the ball down the field, but the pass to DMC showed nice touch.

Yeah I don't get it. Take the 9 mill, get to camp an learn the offense, then play your ass off. Then after the season you get your big contract - here or somewhere else. Holding out now just hinders his chances of having the best season he can, which will hurt his contract next summer. Shit, Bowe should never ever practice - he might get hurt! Dumb. Bowe should voluntarily get in the suck with his teammates because its the right thing to do by them. His holdout has no business purpose. Get into camp, fatty.

C'mon, man!

Explain this?

How did he defer to McCluster? I don't get that.

It's a figure of speech.

Maybe he was open and Matt just didn't see him.

Whatevs. Two possession, against a shit D, didn't do shit.

Not acceptable if we're going to pimp him as beast of the preseason.

Cave to Bowe to get him in camp.

Bowe wants something from Pioli, no other reason to hold out like this.

I guess, but nothing they do can be official anyway. Seems to me the more likely explanation is that Bowe just doesn't want to deal with TC.

Yeah I have no idea.

We had a great team chemistry in 09, won 4 games.

The NFL is about talent. Talent wins in the NFL.

what's that? Andy Reid is on the other line... he wants to know why the Eagles went 8-8 last year.

I'm not gonna villify Bowe for this. Players hold out. It happens. It'll get sorted out and most of us will forget about it and move on. The fact that some are calling Bowe a "selfish monster who eats babies" because of this crack me up.

Yep, nothing to do with them losing their starting qb.

They just aren't team players. Awful.

Again I'll ask, what exactly has Bowe done to show he isn't a team player?

And the New York Giants want to know why they won the super bowl. And the Patriots want to know why they were in the superbowl. And the 49ers, and Ravens want to know why they were in the conference championships.

Nightfyre's out of the CP Mock Draft for 2013 for going full retard.

I've said this once and I'll say it again:

Bowe swings the biggest, chocolatiest penis in the AFC West. As long as he plays in a Chiefs uniform for years to come, he can play whatever hardball tactics with Pioli that he wants. That includes skipping training camp and preseason. Hell, if he's not going to get multi-year guarantees that his career will be insured long-term after he gave his heart and soul to a shitty fucking era of Chiefs football, I'd consider his training camp hold out damn near honorable. Any other bitch ass bad attitude WR would have told the Chiefs to go fuck themselves years ago.

I love him. I want him on this team. The TEAM wants him on the team. The team NEEDS him on the team.

We aren't winning 8 games without Bowe this year.

It's funny how when it comes to a player's responsibility to a team, suddenly everyone's "ethics" and "character" but when it comes to a team's responsibility to a player "It's a business". I don't know what went on during Bowe's contract negotiations, but I do know that Bowe is not violating any contract by deciding to train on his own instead of come to camp. The team wouldn't do anything for Bowe beyond what his contract requires. Why should he?

They'll have a deal done pretty quickly after the season or chances are good they trade a 29 year old WR looking for big $$$.

This doesn't seem right but on the game last night they said the Chiefs were the only team in the NFL without a player over 30.

I have nothing against Bowe, I think he's the best WR the Chiefs have had since Otis Taylor, and if he wants to hold out, even the entire season, more power to him. You gotta do what you think is best for your career. The team would have to go on. I think he'll sign before the season, but if not, his absence would hurt, not as much as Charles hurt last year, but it'd hurt.

I just think the Pioli=satan's babysitter crowd aren't so much Bowe crazy as they are hoping to hell this bites Pioli in the ass.
