Rockies placed LHP Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 4, with left biceps tendinitis.
It's the same ailment that sent him to the DL last year with the Giants, though it wouldn't be surprising if it's a phantom injury just to get him off the roster. Sanchez has been even worse for the Rockies than he was for the Royals, putting up a 9.53 ERA over three starts.

I've been hoping for Frenchy to go down with an ankle sprain.

Nothing serious. Nothing career threatening. Just something that requires a month of rest.

if Guthrie can sustain this the rest of his starts. why not sign him to a cheap 1 mil/year if we need back end starters. trade him at the deadline if he keeps it up, paulino/duffy back after the break.

whats our rotation look like anyways? we dont expect odorizzi up to start next year do we?

1. FA
2. FA
3. Chen/Hoch
4. Smith/Mendoza
5. Guthrie?

I dont know. mind-blown.

See, I'm kind of looking at guthrie as replacing chen after this year. We definitely still need two front of the rotation guys. Mendoza, guthrie and smith are a marginal 3, 4, 5 who are outperforming their career averages.

He's currently making 8.2 and is a FA in 2013, I don't think 1 million dollars will get it done. If he becomes consistent through Sept, I wouldn't mind signing him as long as it doesn't compromise a move for a top rotation guy(s) in the offseason.

But who are we kidding, Guthrie will pitch well enough for the rest of the year when nothing matters and the Royals will extend him and that will be our big offseason pitching acquisition.

to DC in 1 , 2 3 or wherever baseball thread should go. No offense meant , but I'm tired of blocking baseball threads. Will I run out of baseball thread blocking bullets? They should go to DC or somewhere else.

Mendoza and Guthrie and probably the best of the bunch you have listed there. Maybe Smith to complete the rotation at 5. We still need 2 top notch starters. It would be nice if Odo can step and be one of those guys and get 1 big name FA.

Maybe something like this?

Harren
Guthrie
Mendoza
Odo
Smith

We should hope hoch catches fire in the last month and we can trade him for a couple bats or something.

gblowfish

The Glass Family is too cheap to change much. If they do bring in a FA Starter, it'll be some guy who's been hurt, or is at the end of the line, like when they brought in Jeff Francis a couple years ago. Here's the rotation for 2013:

1) Chen
2) Hoch
3) Weak Ass FA
4) Guthrie
5) Mendoza

Other guys who will probably show up due to injury/crappiness:

Mazzaro
W Smith
Verdugo
Odorizzi

Guys who they may try to make into starters:

Collins
Soria

Guys who may get a start or two depending on their healing process:

Duffy
Paulino

But I'll bet you, at most, they bring in ONE free agent as a starter, and it'll probably be somebody marginal, or somebody on a one year deal who'll they'll deal off in July (The Broxton Treatment).

They're not going to spend nearly the amount of $ it'll take to fix this rotation. It's not about winning, it's about keeping it cheap and keeping it in the black.

Nightfyre

crow needs to be stretched out or traded, imo. Our bullpen is too rich to sit on. Donnie joseph will be ready next year as well. You can't stretch out collins, imo. I have given up on chen and hoch.
