The Cowboys really screwed you guys over. In addition to Staubach you also drafted Bob Lilly (2nd round 1961)

Ya, but considering the Chiefs used Mack Lee Hill for a paltry 125 carries that 1965 season, it was a no brainer Sayers would choose an NFL team, especially a pounder like Chicago.

That's kind of twisted -- these players had a choice between "jobs" and chose to go with an established, good paying NFL corporation over an upstart, low paying AFL.

Never heard of those players.

Not to mention that the Cowboys were created in large part to put the AFL out of business. The Cowboys are bad, bad news.

I could be wrong, but I think Lamar wanted a Dallas franchise in the NFL first. Then when he didn't get it he started the AFL, and the same year the NFL created the Cowboys. I don't remember if they did that in response to Lamar, though, or if they were doing it anyway and Lamar just didn't get the franchise.

I knew. He thought a black man would do better in Chicago than KC at the time. That was his main reason.

Yet he went to KU...

That's true.

I am really surprised by the OP poster.

I thought everyone knew that the Chiefs drafted Sayers.

Lamar offered him more money too, but he thought playing in the NFL would be more stable since back then the AFL was thought of as a fad that would disappear.

Royals drafted better football players in the 80s than the Chiefs did. Dan Marino, John Elway, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders.

We stole Otis Taylor, Mike Garrett and Buck Buchanan from the NFL. Maybe some others.

Lamar lived off of besting the NFL. It was a bitter revenge thing, since the NFL spurned Lamar's efforts to start an expansion team. The NFL only expanded after Lamar started the AFL. The merger was the worst thing that has ever happened to the Chiefs because Lamar didn't have anyone left he wanted to stab in the face, Al Davis not withstanding.

back then Lamar was "Jerry Jonesing" motherfuckers with vengeance making KC perennial contender in the AFL.

Bobby Bell was a second round pick for the Vikings.

Chiefs drafted him in the 7th, thinking he'd never sign with them.
