View Full Version : Chiefs Rumor: Bowe will stay beyond 2012.

Get your grain of salt ready.

I've been told by someone who is extremely close to Dwayne Bowe's brother that there's been a handshake deal in place since the end of last season.
This person went on to say he knew he'd be franchised this season followed by a four-year deal next year from the Chiefs.

I know nothing else, but this person seems very very confident in this information.

That's all I can tell you.

Remember, the only reason we are 16 million under the cap this year is because we rolled over 20 million.

We can chose how much we want to rollover each year...meaning they will only spend IF THEY WANT TO.

They will have no problems getting to the salary floor and this supposed "hand shake deal" with Bowe wouldn't really effect it either way.

Dude, I have 2 friends (one that used to be very well connected at Iowa before he retired) and one guy I met during an install "that works for the Chiefs" that give me information...I also have a handful of people that give me little tidbits that they clearly say are rumors.

If he has a handshake deal with a guy like Pioli, I can't imagine he would have missed camp.

If Pioli is just franchising him in an attempt to make him "prove himself" to earn a long term deal...him missing camp would obviously be strike one in that attempt.

Especially with a new oc coming in and Bowe being the 4th highest tenured veteran in the lockerroom.

I'd also like to say that family members of players often distort/misunderstand things that aren't told directly to them.

One example is that a year or so ago, Glenn Dorseys brother was telling people that Dorsey was gonna demand to be traded after last season ended.

And yet, Glenn never missed a practice and by all reports is very happy being a part of this team.

How will this fuck up team chemistry? Cassel and Bowe have an obvious chemistry. If anything, it helps team chemistry by forcing Cassel to develop chemistry with other receivers. Cassel has developed chemistry with Baldwin, proof by camp reports, and McCluster, proof from reports and preseason game one. Still nothing with Breaston it seems.

Gotta agree with this.

Pioli would want Bowe to set an example.... being Bowe is the 4th highest tenured Chief.

Yea, I don't know how Pioli would agree to let Bowe miss the first 3 weeks of TC when they are installing a new offense.

Ask me... When was the last time Pioli did something that made sense?

You have to look at it from Pioli's point of view.

For instance, hiring Crennel made ABSOLUTE sense...from Pioli's point of view...because otherwise some asshole head coach with good ideas was going to come in here and dump Cassel.

And along those same lines, not signing any competition for Cassel, despite the fact Orton had fallen in our laps, made a lot of sense. Because why would you want to undermine Cassel and potentially ruin his confidence.

So what Pioli does makes sense...from a certain point of view.

Cassel and Bowe had chemistry last year...it just never translated to the games because by the time Baldwin was healed up, Cassel got hurt.

Baldwin actually stayed at Cassels house most of last offseason.

I know this man. There is a difference between some chemistry and the type of chemistry Cassel has with Bowe. Looks TO him every play, sometimes throws it to him even if he's not open. He trusts Bowe immensely. It's always been Bowe, and then everybody else.

Cassel has shown that with Baldwin and even McCluster now. He was forced to work with them consistently. Now we KNOW Cassel is willing to look for Baldwin specifically, and trust him enough to throw it up there and let him make a play. Also seems to trust McCluster to bail him out.

Cassel now has 3 guys he's comfortable with and trusts to make a play for ball.

That's all I can tell you.no offense, but that makes no sense

why franchise him and lose Carr for nothing?

Just sign him to that extra year, franchise Carr, case closed.

You think he EVER planned on keeping Carr at that price tag? You think Pioli wants to invest that much in corners?

I said don't lose Carr and get nothing

sign Bowe
Tag Carr

squeeze a draft pick out of Dallas, Carr leaves anyway.

what possible reason would they have for not just signing Bowe to the contract instead of waiting? Even if they did some weird 1 year extension.

They have the salary cap room

Hell, maybe the rumor got a bit misconstrued down the grapevine. Maybe they actually couldn't come to an agreement before the deadline, forcing Bowe to play under the tag whether he wanted to or not, and Pioli and Bowe's agent kept at it and agreed to a contract in principle, ready to ink when the Chiefs season ends...

I would think that if they planned enough to handshake/tag Bowe per the rumor then a plan to tag/trade Carr is not a big stretch.

You can always pull the tag if a team like Dallas doesn't step up.

I just get the feeling that they weren't interested in retaining Carr. Pioli drafted Jalil Brown in the 4th last year and quickly snatched up Routt.

I could be way off but it just didn't seem like there was any mutual interest between the Chiefs and Carr.

That's the odd thing and I agree: There must have been a "Game of Chess" going on because it appears that Pioli picked the wrong guy to franchise.

It's complete speculation as to what's really gone on this year. But maybe some day, Michael Holley will write a book about the Chiefs that includes passages from the 2012 Chiefs Season.

That's probably the only way we'll ever know the truth.

10 mil according to Grimes' tender. If something like this was true you really would have expected a tag and trade with Carr. So many factors at play though, as mentioned.
