View Full Version : Football Would you consider Tebow one of the most iconic figures in football?

A comercial for a show on the NFLN that shows players like Marcus Allen and such then makes a specific reference to "the most iconic players" ten they flash to Tebow.

Right now, he's very popular. 5 years from now, no.

Sure I guess. Every casual fan knows who he is. He's a "lightening rod" for sure.

Yeah but to be put on par with Marcus Allen and the like?

Iconic? No.

Polarizing? Yes.

Over-hyped? Absolutely.

Now, is he the most iconic backup of all time? Very possibly yes.

DaFace

He has his own fan base that has nothing to do with the NFL or his on-field play. I have an aunt who, as far as I know, didn't even care about the NFL until a few years ago. She suddenly became a Broncos fan when he was playing in Denver, and as soon as he got traded, she went out and bought a bunch of Jets stuff. She hardly posts anything on Facebook that doesn't have to do with him (or Jesus stuff in general).

Because of that, he's certainly one of the most well-known players in the NFL broadly (i.e., beyond hardcore NFL fans). I'd probably argue that that doesn't necessarily make him "iconic" though. Once he's done in the NFL, he won't really be remembered that much as an NFL player so much as he is for being an evangelist.

No. He's a ****ing piece of shit. As a person, and as a player. **** him.

I disagree. Everyone that knows him says he's truly down to earth kinda guy. There's nothing wrong w/ that, in fact we probably need more people like that.

What I absolutely hate though is that there are a lot of good people in the NFL, and he's glorified because he goes public about his beliefs, prays on the field/sidelines, and really that looks foolish IMO. And then ESPN takes that and goes with it acting like Tebow's the first player to express his religion in the sporting world. It's annoying, and I'm tired of hearing/watching it.

It's the same shit day after day with ESPN. It's not Tebow's fault really. I think most people who are not associated with the Yankees/BoSox, Giants/Jets/Tebow, TO, Favre, Lebron, Tom Brady/Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Peyton Manning, are tired of ESPN and the shit they spew on a daily basis.

I wouldn't be suprised if he's inducted to the HoF as a backup QB.

Barden is going to get cut. The Giants are giving him every chance to keep his job by allowing him to start tonight with the first team - but, he's been a bust.

Fantasy team owers, pay attention to Martellus Bennett

Eli loves him .... he's played very well - having a great camp - hasn't dropped a ball - and he has a one year contract with the Giants.

Rookie WR Randle is doing well.

Edit: Sanchez is looking a little confused

5 catches 51 yards for Cruz in the first quarter -

Nice catch by Hixon (back from an ACL injury) on Revis.

The Giants are testing D.J. Ware tonight for a spot behind behind Bradshaw.

Edit: Okay. Time to pull the starters

It doesn't matter. They hated him anyway and the Bronco excuse was convenient. Now they got no excuse and still hating.

Thanks to Kyle Wilson's mugging of Victor Cruz - Giants settle for a 30 yard field goal and lead 6-0. That's the definition of PI.

Giants running game needs work. Hate our offensive line - they stink.

Sanchez sacked! Tuck & Osi

Edit: Jets 3 & Out

Our front four is scary good.

Marcus Allen and Tim Tebow? Were they featuring players that were better in college than in the pros?

Exactly. Hes just a flash in the pan and his popularity has nothing to do with his performance on the football field. Hope he realizes his 15 minutes is about up.

The hype really has casual fans believing that Bible Boy is a good QB. It was hilarious hearing people talk about how awesome he was last year (then gets dumped for a 40 year old QB with a broken neck).
