My T-Mobile bill has reached $200/month for our family. That's too damn high! I'm thinking about going to strictly text only. Anybody done this?

If not, anyone have better options out there?

Fly by night companies or track phones?

Can you even do a text only plan?

Switch the family all over to prepay if you are going that route on cheap/used phones.

If you downgrade your phone. ALot of the smartphones you are required to add a data plan.

Great point! I wouldn't even bother texting with a Barney Rubble phone....nothing like going back 5 years! 15 keystrokes to type three words!

We don't have smart phones.

Actually, my non-smart phones have full keyboards so it's pretty fast. Just held a fantasy football draft at a bar where no internet and had to text every pick....)

For anyone who has a T-mobile or AT&T phone, I highly recommend going with Straight Talk's Bring your own device plan.

It's the exact same coverage.

Order an AT&T or Tmobile SIM online from Straight Talk for $15. You will receive a packet in a few days with the SIM and instructions on how to change the APN settings.

Piece of cake.

So far it's looking like Metro PCS is the best deal. $30 per phone for unlimited everything. Includes taxes and fees. That's a $40/mo savings on the taxes/fees alone.

there is a reason why its $30 for unlimited

Is the quality the same though?

Re-sellers tend to have inferior service.
I learned this quickly when I defected from AT&T to Boost Mobile (I'm back with AT&T).

I'm currently paying $50 a month for unlimited talk/text.
I'd like to find a plan that will give me unlimited web too without driving the price up too much. Anybody?

Yes. Identical.

Been using it a month now. Data speeds are the same. Coverage is the same.
