View Full Version : Chiefs The next step in the revolution: Full Page ads in the KC Star

Dante84
10-11-2012, 05:22 PM
I propose we pool together for three full page ads in the KC Star Sports Section.

Page 1: A cleaned up, professional, appropriate version of the Matt Cassel Facts.

Page 2: A cleaned up, updated, professional, appropriate version of the Scott Pioli Facts.

Page 3: An open letter to Clark Hunt, stating our passion, loyalty, and struggles with the past decade of being a Chiefs fan. Beg him to make it right. Make reference to our having not drafted a QB, despite our obvious need to.
***If we pool enough money, run a full page of this in the Dallas Newspaper as well. Would be nice to stick it in Clark's backyard.***

In regards to the "Print is Dead" excuse - this idea is more about the coverage the ad gets than the ad itself.

An ad is a whole page of text and facts.

If picked up by national media (it most certainly would); the ad itself serves as the press release for which the reporters will base their stories on. These stories will be put online, and links will be sent and it will go viral that way.

A billboard, if the story is picked up, makes for a cool image, with a short, yet blunt message. The reporters will be left to create their own opinions and I think the message will be lost when communicated to the masses.

I think that blunt image was already communicated via the airplane banner. The detailed ad is a different approach, with a different angle.

Waste of money. And they are expensive as hell.

Who the hell reads the newspaper anymore?

Answer: No one. That's why major papers are going to a 2-3 day a week printing or have been eliminated altogether.

I don't know the exact cost, but I believe newspaper ads are expensive as fuck. Also, a guy did this for the Royals over the Summer and it got a half a day run and not one fuck was given. Granted the NFL is monumentally bigger than MLB, but I'd stick to more bang for your buck alternatives.

The story is bigger than the ad.

You dont think that would go viral? Every news organization would put that on their website:

"Fans pay for full page ad to denounce QB, GM"

Ends up getting millions of more impressions than initially paid for.

Go with a single page ad, two color (red and black), check into the cost differences between a 1/4 page, a 1/2 page and a full page. Put it in the Dallas papers. If the Dallas paper has on online version, check into placing that add there as well.

The thing that it seems like a lot of people don't understand is that Clark isn't the direct target here - the fans are. Clark may not even SEE something in the Dallas paper, let alone care enough to do anything but ignore it. The whole idea is to energize the fanbase so that the fan's "voice" becomes loud enough that Clark has no choice but to act.

In short, any effort in Dallas would be useless to the point of potentially being counterproductive.

I think the Billboard and Newspaper ads are a dumb idea.

Do geographical web ads with Google. Target sports sites, blogs, etc in the KC area. Have the ad link to a page with all your bitching and moaning about Pioli and our QB who is on his way out of town anyway.

Some of the nerds on here could do some kick ass graphics work.

Could make it funny, make the ad look political. Say that Cassel and Pioli = Legitimate Rape or something like that. Not only would you get the sports coverage, but you would get political coverage. Now I do not condone this idea, as I'm the only member of the Scott Pioli band wagon, but its something you should think about.

$30 grand? Fuck.

No one reads newspapers anymore, why would they charge so much?

Have you seen the giant glass building sitting right off the freeway in downtown KC? These people have bills whether your ads work or not. It's not cheap to print and distribute newspapers - not even when your freelancers donate their writing and photos and your offices are in your own home. Can you imagine maintaining giant printing presses, paying staff, and making the note on a $20 million facility?

I think we should wrap the moon in a vinyl ad to say Fire Pioli... that way during full moons, everyone in the world could see it!1

The next person who suggests full page ads better be writing a check for $30k.

This is why we have a Facebook page instead. More people will see over a ad in a newspaper. Doesn't matter if in KC or Dallas.

We should do one of them thare Super Bowl commercials. If everybody on this site sold one camaro off their front lawn we would have enough.

How much is a classified add?

We could own that...

Waste of money, only the elderly read the print newspaper anymore.

And for crying out loud, this is about Pioli and only Pioli. You want to run an ad about a QB who isn't starting this week? What a waste.

There is one talking point in this movement. Pioli. Pioli. Pioli.

Pioli just got an extension, sooooo I'm not realizing what good it would do regardless.
