I doubt this will be popular but, I would. I like Rex. He turned New York around quick and he did it with a shitty QB. However, I can't see Clark wanting him. I think there would be a personality conflict there.

As DC, sure. As HC, nope. I doubt he'll be offered another HC job anytime soon.

I know, it's a novel thought; let the new HC build his staff as he sees fit. No more hold overs from failed coaching staffs.

The last time the Chiefs let the HC pick his own staff, IIRC, was when Marty was brought in as HC. There were two futrure Super Bowl winning coaches, Cowher & Dungy, on that staff.

How many Chiefs' assitant coaches have gone onto be a winning HC since Marty? Zero...

If Rex grows then I think he could be good. He right now just isn't a good head coach.
He has an amazing defensive scheme but is acting primarily as a defensive coach, lets the offensive coordinator do his own thing and doesn't understand the value of consistency for a young QB. If he learns that he has to be the head coach and not just a glorified DC I think he could be good

He got by of being so different than Mangini in the first 2 seasons, like Romeo last season, and smoke and mirrors. We don't have the talent to run his scheme and he doesn't have control of the whole team. He would rather leave the offense and special teams up to their coordinators with very little input. He is to much of a players coach.

I stand corrected, but again look at the sucess that Vermiel had (minus the defense) during his tenure as HC.

My point being, the Chiefs need to clean house completely and let the new HC pick and build his own staff and not go cheap and try to save a few bucks by retaining any coaches (unless the new HC wants to retain them) from this abortion of a staff.

Good post and I agree. He is very good in the short term. If we want to build a ten year contender, he's the wrong guy. If we want to win a Superbowl in 2014, he might be the guy.

Guys like to play for him, he's a good defensive coordinator, and he's a little nuts. He is just like his dad. I am tired of having a team full of pussies. This team has been pussified since Marty left. Yes, they were pussified under Haley imo. Rex would make this team nasty imo. Imagine Rex's defense with two pass rushers....

We have a good defense, we have a good running game, and we are about to have a rookie QB. Rex has been there before. He is not that bad of a choice.

Rex Ryan is s a really, really good defensive mind, but he has no idea how to control a locker room. Just because you say a few tough words to the media doesn't mean you know what motivates players.

The locker room was out of control. For as tough as he seems, his players walked all over him and players like Sanchez never seemed motivated to improve nor do they ever feel like the coach has their back.

chiefzilla1501
10-31-2012, 03:07 PM
However... he's still a very innovative defensive mind. He'd be an exceptional coordinator and I'd love for him to be high on our list. Hell, he worked for the Ravens -- package him in with DeCosta!

Here's the tough part if Hunt doesn't fire Pioli...

Romeo isnt gonna go anywhere because what good coach is gonna sign on KNOWING Pioli will either be on a lame duck year or will have buyout language in his deal that means there could be a house cleaning at any time?

Answer: none of them.

Hunt only has 2 choices if he has a brain in his head:

A) Fire Pioli and start over with the best qualified cantidate

B) Extend Pioli for 3 additional years WITH NO BUYOUT CLAUSE WHATSOEVER.

Those are the ONLY two choices that offer the stability a good coach would want.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't understand the importance of a QB.

He's starting the worst quarterback in the league not named Cassel (and an argument could be made he's worse) and he traded for Tebow and refuses to use him in any capacity.

I'm pretty sure Ryan is a complete doofus.

Yeah, but they drafted Sanchez and are pretty committed to him.

You have to give a top 5 pick 4 years at least.

I'm sure they'll move on.

His first move in NY was to draft a QB so...he gets it. He just screwed it up.
