Swapping Sanchez for Vick? (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/new-york-jets-mark-sanchez-trade-michael-vick-tim-tebow-121912)UPDATED DEC 20, 2012 1:48 AM ET

A day after announcing they are benching starting quarterback Mark Sanchez (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/mark-sanchez/638259), the New York Jets (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/new-york-jets/67057) are shopping him around, gauging trade interest around the league, according to numerous reports Wednesday.

LATEST JETS MESS

Report: Tebow breaks up with model (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/tim-tebow-new-york-jets-breaks-up-with-girlfriend-121912)
Jets expected more from Tebow (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/rex-ryan-says-new-york-jets-had-higher-expectations-for-tim-tebow-121912)
Jets bench Sanchez, McElroy in (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/new-york-jets-bench-mark-sanchez-will-start-greg-mcelroy-san-diego-chargers-121812)

The New York Daily News went so far as to say thatPhiladelphia (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/philadelphia-eagles/67058) quarterback Michael Vick (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/michael-vick/69083), who like Sanchez has fallen out of favor with his current team, would be open to coming to the Jets if Sanchez is no longer the QB. And the feeling may be mutual.

“Bring it on,” the Daily News quoted a Jets source as saying about adding Vick if he is available. “He was hit too many times [behind a subpar offensive line] the last two years.”

“Ryan loves him,” the Daily News quoted a team official as saying about head coach Rex Ryan’s feelings about Vick.

Second-year quarterback Greg McElroy (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/greg-mcelroy/1269051) will start this Sunday against San Diego in place of Sanchez. It has been a stunning decline for Sanchez, who led the Jets to the AFC Championship Game in each of his first two seasons but has committed a league-high 50 turnovers over the last two seasons.

Drafted fifth overall in 2009, Sanchez was signed to an extension this past offseason that brought his total contract value to $58.25 million over five years.

Looking for more scoops on your favorite New England sports teams? Check out NESN (http://www.nesn.com/).

Multiple outlets reported that in order for the Jets to find a taker for Sanchez, they would likely need to pay a large portion of the $8.25 million he is owed for next season. If the team cuts Sanchez, the cap charge would be $17.1 million for 2013, making a trade the much more desirable move (a trade would cost the Jets $8.9 million plus whatever they pay the team taking Sanchez).

When asked about his feelings on the situation, according to the Daily News, Sanchez told reporters Wednesday, “I’m not going to make excuses. At the end of the day, no matter what kind of situation that you’re in, the quarterback has the ball and it’s my job to make good decisions with the football regardless of the personnel situation.

"I’m not going to go there. Is every interception the quarterback’s fault? Of course not. But they’re attributed to the quarterback. It goes as my stat. You live with that. You own up to your side of the mistakes and you move on.”

Sanchez’s fate was sealed on Monday night, when he committed five turnovers in a 14-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/tennessee-titans/67047) that eliminated the Jets from playoff contention.

Also on Wednesday, the Jets’ other quarterback, little-used Tim Tebow (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/tim-tebow/766555), expressed his frustrations with his role (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/rex-ryan-says-new-york-jets-had-higher-expectations-for-tim-tebow-121912) on the Jets this season and the decision to start McElroy next week.

“Obviously, I'm a little disappointed,” he said. “You try to handle it the best you can.
“All you can ask for and all you want is a chance. A chance to go out there and play the game you love, and help this team win football games. That's all I wanted."

Hell to the yeah. Same with Smith.

They're gonna have to pick up a veteran to tutor Geno. Who out there is or was similar Geno. It's about time Trent Green gets out of the booth & pass some of his "what it takes" & replace Zorn.

Remember, this is a guy this board wanted to take with our first rounder "because it's important to try".

This is why I am for taking a QB in the first, but only if he's worth it. I mean when your own coach says you're not ready, why in the name of God do a bunch of fucks on a message board think they know better? Seriously.

Same for the people who defended his playoff record, like he had anything to do with that. If the Jets had a decent QB during those few years, they prolly win a SB. THAT is how bad Sanchez is.

Its soo funny because hes a very similar player to Cassel. Low upside, but both players are capable of playing better than they have this season. Both game managers. Both can be ok and serviceable if everything around them is good…defense and strong run game. Both go to crap when asked to carry the load and too much is put on their shoulders…..

I don't see that as being true at all.

Sanchez has talent. Mechanically he is close to perfect. If he had Cassel's work ethic and dedication he would be a much better QB.

Talent wise Cassel is lacking in just about every area. He tried to make up for it by being THE WORLD'S GREATEST BOY SCOUT but that doesn't happen in the NFL.

Anyone listen to Dan Patrick a couple days ago?

He said he has spoken to people for the Jets and that the reason Rex didn't put in Tebow a couple weeks ago was because he had a feeling that Tim would win games and that Rex didn't want the backlash of "why didn't you play him sooner?"

I seriously think Rex Ryan will be fired and will end up somewhere as a dc.

I'd JIMP to have him in KC in that capacity.

I wouldn't have a problem trading for Sanchez... as a backup. The Jets have much bigger problems than Sanchez. I think under the right coaching and a front office that doesn't crowd your locker room with head cases, Sanchez could do okay. No matter what we do, the Chiefs need to bring in 2 QBs. Geno and somebody else... I'm okay if that's Sanchez.

His arms looked fat, doesn't look the same as he did in Denver. It's because the jets coaching staff made him bulk up for their ground and pound offense and him being a punt protector.

No he won't. People need to give up on this idea. He still has way too much support on the team, in the fan base, and in the media. Not to mention that a bunch of people are glad he didn't play Tebow because they don't want him next year, including a lot of the players.
