View Full Version : Chiefs So who are we gonna take in the 2nd round?

We already know the #1 selection goes to Geno Smith, no more worrying about that.

So, who's gonna be available in the 2nd round? I know we can't truly know, especially not before the combine. But do we have anybody in mind?

Looks like some of these guys will be available around that time

S Matt Elam, Florida
TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame
WR Tavon Austin, WVU
QB Matt Barkley, USC
OT DJ Fluker, Alabama
WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson
WR Robert Woods, USC
CB Jordan Poyer, Oregon St
LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia
S Robert Lester, Alabama
WR Terrance Williams, Baylor

I'm really not too sure at this point but Austin would be a good pick and maybe Elam 2nd.

CB - Xavier Rhodes - Florida State would have to be near the top of my list of potential candidates.
How about S - Eric Reid - LSU?
How about WR - Justin Hunter - Tennessee

I like Ogletree but I think we can find better value and a better fit later. Ogletree is athletic and fast - traits exhibited by both DJ & Houston. We need a run stuffer. Kevin Minter, Shayne Skov, Andrew Jackson, Jon Bostic, and Nico Johnson are all better fits and can be had later.

Allen's probably 1st off the board, Austin's really small think he falls a bit. Patterson's a fringe 1 Hunter doesn't look fully recovered and Rogers of course is a major character concern. Woods will move up because he's fast and polished.

ogletree is going to be bad ass...not sure where he fits if we go to a 4-3

if you could guarantee bailey would be there in the 3rd, i'd take him and use the 2nd on defense

I get it but Baldwin, Breaston and Moeaki are enough for now, especially if Boss comes back healthy (which I think is 30/70 at this point but worth mentioning).

They definitely need a talented CB and safety or they're going to lose a shit ton of games 38-41, like the 2002 and 2004 Chiefs.

I'd like WR in the 2nd, and this is a good list. I'd probably go Allen/Patterson, Williams, Hunter, then Austin. Of course some of those guys (hopefully not all of them) will be gone in the 1st. Austin is explosive, but his size simply limits his ceiling.

Really? I've been saying it all season but I think the guy is slow as shit.

He's clearly not in the same class as Willis, Bowman, Urlacher, Lewis, Wagner, etc. and is most likely several notches below Rey Mauluga.

He's a 3rd rounder at best, although I'm sure some dumbass team will draft him higher because of his "myth".

I wouldn't touch the guy outside of the 4th round. He's Aaron Curry and Rolando McClain, without the baggage.

5'9 176 lbs and expected to grow a inch or 2 more. This kid actually has speed and quickness. He has the moves which DMC never had and is actually a special teams threat. Tavon Awesome > DMC

Hypotetically us staying in the 3-4 but swtiching to a 1-gap, my priorities for Draft +FA would be

1 QB
2. CB
3. DE
4. WR
5. Safety ( both free and strong, BPA)
7. ILB

However, I also think that DMC, Baldwin, and probably Wylie need to be purged from the roster. I know that seems harsh for Devon but he never made the most out of his opportunities and still runs poor routes IMO.

If Bowe leaves, WR jumps to 3 as I think this class is loaded with solid WRs who will be picked between the 2nd and 4th round this year.

As much as we need Oline depth it'd be stupid not to draft Barrett Jones, someone who's been the BEST OL-man at more than one position in college, someone who's a monster at 6'5 315 and someone that can play virtually every spot on the Oline. Allen and Stephenson are garbage and Asamoah was so/so last season. This is an even bigger position of need if Albert doesn't re-sign/franchised. Even if we keep Albert, we draft Jones and we could go in the season w/ just 7 OL. Or you never know what this coaching staff will do. Maybe draft Loeckel and move Albert to guard and go w/ Loeckel, Albert, Jones, Hudson, Winston - and to be honest, that would be the best combination of all.

Wouldn't mind seeing Jordan Reed, who is entering the draft early. He came to Florida as a QB and is leaving as our best TE since Hernandez. He was clutch this year and should only get better. Not sure where he will end up getting slotted in the draft though. Don't know anything about the ND TE.

I think Reid can utilize the weapons on offense we have, we really are loaded with talent but just have been drenched with offensive coaching that makes Crusty the clown look genius. Mccluster will finally show why he was thought so much of under Reid and we do have a speed WR in Newsome that can be brought into the picture.

I think we will be looking for a solid CB opposite flowers with the 2nd pick. Then we will be taking best players available after that.
