Really good, but it isn't close to KC BBQ.

If you like Beef ribs. I personally can't stand beef ribs.

I had a very pleasant experience a few years ago at one East of KC off I-70 and loved it. Of course, I like my ribs dry, without all the sauce on them. They were pork ribs, and the Mrs. had a pulled pork sandwich and loved it even though she couldn't eat all of it.

Sadly, RibCrib is the best BBQ in St. Joe.

WHY in gods name is a town 45 minutes from the best BBQ in the world only have shit for options is beyond me.

Famous Dave's is the best up here. Up here you say BBQ and the locals are thinking sloppy joes.

You're in Texas? There HAS to be better local BBQ joints in your hometown than this POS chain.

I wish we had a Rib Crib up here but all we have is Famous Daves and a local Texas BBQ place with prices out of sight.

I can do better myself than either one of those, so that is the only real option.

Of course this place is primarily nourished on pizza, hot dogs and pasta.

IMO RibCrib kicks the shit out of Famous Daves.

I suppose, but our good local joints are in shitty, or otherwise inconvenient parts of town. Truth be told, I'm not huge on Texas-style BBQ(not enough pork)

I agree. The locals don't get the concept of low and slow heat smoking of the meat.

You'd be surprised. The only really good BBQ in TX is the small independent mom & pop operations or my backyard. Your choice. I think we've discussed this in other threads.

This, even though I have only been to one RibCrib on one trip.

I do like some of the Famous Daves sides though.

Not as great as KC BBQ, but I have grown to love The brisket in Texas.

There's no way you don't have several indy joints that are way better than rib crib.

in Texas, Dickies is criminally mediocre, and how they can charge KC BBQ prices (Okie Joes - LCs) for fast food is beyond me.

I lived in Dallas for a year and couldn't find BBQ that touched KC...or even the two local joints in Champaign, IL.

the best I had in Dallas was Red Hot and Blue and that was a chain.

That is just crazy with such a huge population to sell to, it must really suck.

Rib Crib isnt that good. The one in Zona Rosa in KC shut down real quick.

Used to eat at the original Rib Crib quite a few years back. At the time it was good and prices were reasonable. Since their growth into a franchise chain the food is commercialized and it's overpriced. Not as good as it once was but it will do for a BBQ emergency fix.

When I went to the 2 locations (Topeka, Derby) - both times I had to cut the meat off the rib with a knife.

Honestly, the BBQ at "Chilis" is better.

Derby, Kansas had one? That would suck.

I must have hit them just right when we stopped, at maybe the original location, out east of Blue Springs or something.

The ribs were not boiled, but falling off the bones, smoked dry just like I like them.

I even posted it on here, as it was a couple years ago driving through a snow storm, on our way to Wichita at the Holiday time of year.

I couldn't remember the name of the place, and Phil came up with it once I gave him the location. That would explain the dead response I got, since they normally suck. I had no idea they were a chain, as I had never seen one before.

I REALLY wish someone would bring at least one of the following: Ok Joes, Smokehouse, Gates, Jack Stax, etc to St. Joe.
Considering all that is up here is: RibCrib, Famous Daves, and Bandanas, I'd assume one of the local KC shops would take over this town.

I don't think Famous Daves is at all that bad for a chain.

That's happened to me twice that I can remember. Both places went out of business fast.

If you're going to do BBQ in KC, you better do it world class, or you'll be out of business in a hurry. Too many great places, too many excellent choices. I've been surprised that Gates and Sons hasn't franchised. They have several locations around KC, but when they've ventured outside the city, it hasn't worked. Okla Joe's has three locations now, as does Arthur Bryant's. But they're all in Metro KC. Seems like somebody like Zarda or Smokestack could go regional if they chose to. Maybe it's too hard to get quality beef or pork outside this region, or it would be too expensive to produce on a regional basis.

What city was the original?

I’ve only tried Rib Crib in Tulsa, and I don’t remember it being inedible, but I’m not sure if that’s because it was before the quality went down, or if it was because I was fat little 7-year-old.

I like that place at the stockyards. But I didn't really do traditional Q there. I had a chop that was like 2" thick. Their "BBQ sauce" is also liquid which is a bit off-putting too. But their food was good. Can't really vouch for their traditional BBQ fare.

I think you're talking about Cooper's and their Big Chop. Yes, the food is good, but it's a different animal from traditional KC style.
