View Full Version : Chiefs Chumlee On Pawn Stars Makes 25K Per Episode - Drives A Maserati

It's Friday and this falls into the "this will piss you off category."

I like Pawn Stars because I think it's informative and I like the history lessons.

But I did some research and I found that fat fuck Austin "Chumlee" Russell on Pawn Stars makes 25 grand per episode and he drives a freaking Maserati.

If you think any of these "reality" shows are real think again.

Pawn Stars is about as scripted as it can be. In fact Gold & Silver Pawn is hardly a pawn shop anymore but more of a gift shop selling coffee mugs and t-shirts.

You can tell it's all staged because no one is in the shop when they are shooting, it's always empty.

I know this good looking lady down here in Houston who owns a pawn shop and asked her if anyone has ever approached her about doing a show like this.

She said yes but they wanted to tell her who would play what character/personality. The shows producers decide who plays what.

I asked how does Pawn Stars get all that crazy stuff to walk through the door and she said they place ads in the local papers looking for people to bring in weird stuff for the show. So I guess they're all actors.

Chumlee plays a dumbass and plays it well but dude is worth almost a million dollars because of this show.

Man.

"Austin Chumlee Russell is an American reality television star with a net worth of $600 thousand and a salary per episode $25,000. Austin Chumlee Russell acquired that net worth as a cast member of the History Channel reality show Pawn Stars. He works behind the counter of the pawnshop and has a special interest in pinball machines. The show follows the goings-on at the Las Vegas based 24-hour Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. Austin famously was able to talk a local Maserati shop into selling him a $100,000 car for only $85,000 proving his skills as a haggler. Chumlee got the job because he is Corey Harrison's childhood best friend."

I know someone who has been on the show. The actual "negotiations" are basically real, but everything else is planned out. Obviously, people aren't just walking through the door with interesting items and the cameras are rolling. All the items and sellers are screened well in advance, and they come back on taping days and do the negotiatons. Any people milling about in the store are extras.

The "phony" aspect about the negotiations is that these guys really are wealthy TV stars now and not pawn brokers trying to make a living. They aren't negotiating for business, they are negotiating for the TV drama.

Aside from the First 48, I don't think there is a real reality show.

My buddy got paid several years ago to be on Cheaters. Cheaters was initially real and funded by some holy rollers. Then the guy got stabbed and they went to all paid actors. My buddy got $250 to be the guy that a girlfriend was cheating with. It was fucking hilarious as he had a little BMW hatchback that was in shitty condition at the time, and all the shots were dark so they narrator described it as a "snazzy sports car".

He also took some type of medicine to induce vomiting (apparently stage actors do it all the time  He gets hit in the gut in the "confrontation" scene and pukes. Said he'd never take that stuff again for a role. It made him feel shitty for a couple days.

To top it off, they weren't supposed to use his real name and they did. They just misspelled it.

Sons of Guns was good when they stuck to the meat and potatoes of guns. But, just like American Chopper, once the "producers" (ya right) got worried that it was going to get boring they started to write in pre-determined plots.

Horrible acting doesn't help. ;)

Evidently she was a porn star or something in her previous life.

Rick said the show got renewed for another 80 episodes, do the math on that!

In this interview he says it's all "real" which I have a hard time believing.

Just how many times to the "experts" have to tell us that they are "experts" like the museum curator? "Hi, I'm the museum curator and Rick has me come down to his shop to tell him what kind of rare piece of shit and historical vallue the rare piece of shit has"

We get it you're the museum curator.

Evidently these "experts" have nothing else better to do than to wait on Rick's phone call so they can rush down there to authenticate something for free.

They do that not only for people that aren't regular viewers on A&E but so that when it gets into syndication worldwide, new viewers wont be "lost", which would lead to viewers changing the channel.

Everything in TV is geared towards syndication.

Women look for men that can provide. Men look for women that can please.

Pawn Stars' Rick Harrison on Fame, Imitators And Why His Fiancée Will Never Be on the Show

What's the strangest thing anyone's ever said to you?
That they want to have my baby! [Laughs] It is bizarre how popular the show is. In South America, I'm not the number one show on cable, I'm the number one show, period. They set up a thing for me and Corey to sign some autographs, and they thought something like 500 people would show up. 12,000 people showed up. They had to call the national police for crowd control. A van pulls up with guys with big guns pop out. It's like we were The Beatles.

Wow. Where was this?
That was in Buenos Aires. I get people from Japan wanting my autograph. We're on TV in 150 different countries, 32 languages.

I figured as much, but that doesn't go with me making fun of the show. :Pinky:

This is the first time iirc that I use :Pinky: icon in a post. I need an "expert" to tell me if it is appropriate use of icon or not. I don't recall ever seeing it in any other post before for any reason. Does that affect the vallue of icon for it's usage since it is so rare to use?
