View Full Version : ChiefsPlanet Discussion: NSFW images in spoiler tags

Can we take a moment to seriously discuss posting NSFW and full nude images inside spoiler tags? I'm not talking about NSFW images in a thread clearly marked NSFW like the porn gif thread, but NSFW images popping up in threads like today's Tiffani Thiessen thread (just an example since it's fresh on my mind and is not marked NSFW).

Let's forget for a moment that posting pictures showing genitalia and nipples in general is against board policy and focus merely on the spoiler tags.

While the spoiler tags DO hide the image from view for someone walking by, they do nothing for someone whose IS folks at work peek behind the scenes. Spoiler tags only hide the image from view; the image still loads on the machine and its cache.

Am I the only person bothered by this? If I am, I'll shut up. But this is really becoming such a rampant practice, it makes me hesitant to peruse Chiefsplanet at work, even threads that should be safe to go in.

Whenever I've brought this up in threads, everyone just acts like it isn't a big deal. It's a bannable offense, and I don't understand why it's not enforced.

Most IT folks will look the other way at a few bikinis, but we've got outright porn on this site.

Yeah, to clarify, it's the "girly pictures thread" not the "nudie pictures thread". Over time, the pics forum has grown to include those kinds of pics outside that thread, but even that's a somewhat newish occurrence.

The thing is, if your company is parsing HTML via proxy, the pictures are the least of your worries.

If someone were to post a NSFW link (perfectly within the rules) your IT could still catch that, figure out what it is, and you would be in trouble.

Also don't forget that every letter of text in the forum loads into your browser as well, so when people like me say fuck you, you fucking fuck over and over again every fucking day, that shows up too.

Quite honestly, if you're afraid your work is monitoring you, you probably shouldn't be on here AT ALL.

I think somebody needs to define "not safe for work".

Our corporate proxy does not allow us to download pictures of beer, for example.

For the longest time, my AVATAR (a bottle of Das Echte Schwaben Brau) was technically NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

Again, if your company is THAT uptight that an embedded graphic that you didn't even click on could be a potential problem for you, DON'T SURF CHIEFSPLANET WITH A COMPANY COMPUTER.

Quite frankly, if you work for a Fortune 500 publicly-traded company, surfing the Planet - SFW or not - is against company policy.

Here's a thought, with the caveat that I DON'T KNOW IF WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK.

I found another site out there in the world (http://www.freeratio.org/faq.php?faq=common_rayj2010_bbcodes) that has a NSFW tag. According to the description, it doesn't load the image until after the person clicks the link. This would also make sure that it's clear that this isn't a spoiler and is truly a way of masking the image.

Is that something that those against the spoiler route would be OK with?

(Other mods feel free to chime in on this as well, either publicly or privately.)

Read the whole post. I was explaining that as far as this board's terms of service go, it doesn't matter where I'm looking at the board - at home, at work, at the library... that's why I hate the "you should work at work" argument for allowing things. I understand what OP is saying.

I don't think spoiler tag in the picture threads with NSFW should be a big deal to be bannworth. Just don't click on the NSFW. I'd rather not click on a link because it could be harmful to my computer or just blog it down. It does that at times.

This is a discussion so I am doing just that with my oppinion on the subject.

Maybe at work shouldn't be looking at the pictures if you got to worry about someone sneeking up behind you. At least the NSFW suggest that it isn't a good idea to look at that spoiler tag. It's on person clicking it at work own fault for getting busted.

Encasing a pic in spoiler tags only hides it from your view, it doesn't prevent it from being loaded into your browser's cache.

It's a legitimate concern. Perhaps the suggestion DaFace came up with is possible, it looks like a good solution.

That being said, I agree with you. I don't want links. I don't click on links unless I'm absolutely certain I know where they're going. I'd much rather just see the pic.

I'm actually interested in this discussion as well. It's come up from time to time among the mods, but I'm not sure we've even come up with a firm rule about it.

My general feeling is that NSFW images should be linked only and that the spoiler tag isn't a sufficient method of masking it, but I'm open to thinking about it differently.

This is the rule... unless someone can come up with a compelling reason against it. It isn't really even about NSFW it's so we don't get blacklisted as a porn site. So, again, unless there are some convincing arguments to the contrary, this should remain the official rule. As for enforcement, I could care less on that... that's entirely a mod discussion thing as far as I'm concerned.

True enough. That said, a lot of IT departments will let bikini pics slide... throw in some full nudity and you've crossed a line.

What are you talking about? Very very very few IT departments give two shits about that kind of thing. We have much better things to worry about than wasting time and bandwidth to scan your computer cache for pictures. And you keep trying to differentiate between bikini and nude pics. But the system doesn't care. Unless you're running some kind of image scanning process on all cache images, the system doesn't differentiate between a bikini pic and a horserape pic. The resources required for that kind of thing wouldn't be wasted on determining whether Joe Businessman is looking at nudie pics linked from chiefsplanet. Like has been said, if your IT is watching you at anything close to that level, you're already fucked and chiefsplanet is the least of your worries.

You're making way to big of a deal about this...

Join the 21st century and get a smart phone or tablet and get on CP then WHILE YOUR'E AT WORK....if you need CP that much.

I have no problem with properly labeled threads, and even links that are labeled NSFW. That gives me a choice to see them. But when they show up in random threads, there's where I find a problem...

Cmon man. It's not really a random thread. It's not like someone posted it in the Geno Smith thread or anything. It was in the pictures forum in a thread about her. How many threads are there in the picture forums specifically made about a certain girl that don't contain at least one or two slightly NSFW, or totally NSFW pics?

Just don't go into the picture forum when you're at work.

I think its fine the way it is but if this gets Fuck Me Bitches panties unbunched its fine by me.

That's not even remotely true. I've cracked the whip on two guys who have been here since Aug 2000 and are well-liked in the past couple weeks for getting loose with filter evasion. I fix every one I notice whether inner-circle or not. The irony is that I don't even care. While I'd rather not hang out frequently with a potty-mouth, profanity dosn't bother me. Not to be a dick about this... but it seems my post was ignored... there is a rule in place and unless someone convinces me otherwise... that's the rule. This really isn't something up for public debate on what people like or don't. It's a practical matter on what internet filters look at. Sorry, but I have to be pragmatic on this one. So FMB is right, actually he is being far too loose on the issue. If you want to post a pic that isn't "completely work safe" then it needs to be a link. Period. Otherwise we, as a website, risk being categorized in a way that I don't think is accurate.

Even without nudity, or even with filters on, I consider Chiefsplanet unviewable at work and removed it from the list years ago based purely on the sexually explicit discussion and racism. Threads about ass licking, or whatever Florida based story of the day is going on, or praising chocolate penis...I really don't feel like ever having to explain to my boss that its just an innocent Chiefs fan site.

Thanks. It sounds like this rule needs to be reiterated (maybe with a sticky explainer) and enforced then.

Why have rules if they are not going to be enforced? Why have guidelines if they are not going to be used?
Come on everyone if you agree to the terms of service then you agree to the rules. If you don't like the rules tough shit. Use the site properly or don't use it at all. This telling someone else to not use use this site because you all want to break the rules or you don't want to be put out to click on a link is ridiculous.
We have some weak mods around here anymore.

Furthermore, clicking on link isn't any less advisable for you work computer than it is for your home computer.

The rule, according to AustinChief, is to prevent us from being blacklisted as a porn provider.

Linking to questionable material can result in that just as easily as allowing it to be hosted here.

Manager - "We really need to watch our language around here. Lately, I've noticed a LOT of swearing and curse words. We have ladies walking around, and that kind of language is not appropriate in their company."

Supervisor - "We always try to be polite when they're around. I hold the doors open for those broads all the time." (the statement either goes over the manager's head, or he completely ignores it)

This is silly.

If there was an integrity issue imminent with ChiefsPlanet, I'm going to go ahead and assume that AustinChief or DaFace or one of the others would have addressed it sternly, and made the penalty for such links pretty harsh.

If this is about risking people's ability to surf CP at work, well, don't surf CP at work if you think there may be a chance your overzealous IT overlords may come down hard on you.

If this is about FMB's out of control OCD (it says THIS, why don't people do THAT), well, seek counseling and/or medication, you megalomaniacal control freak.

Why do people say I'm asking others do something out of the ordinary or that I'm trying to be a control freak? I'm asking people do it the way it's supposed to be done, no more or less.

Fwiw, I clicked on your spoiler, (at work nonetheless), and I personally don't have a problem with how you posted it. You marked it NSFW and it was hidden from view. Now, had I clicked on the thread and BAM boobies, that would have been a different story. I don't like surprises. :)

I do agree though that posting a link is the wiser choice. Plus, if it is a CP rule, then it should be followed.

That reminds me, (perhaps DaFace or AC could answer this)... with the picture subforum being hidden to everyone except members, is there a trace of the activity on search engines?
