I'm 6'1 and the pipe coming out of the wall is at about the 5'6 mark and I hate it.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any recommendation on a shower head that is higher than the pipe it connects to?

TIA

I looked for one when I was finishing my basement and didn't find one I liked. They do have ones that have an arm that can extend out and up - example below.

Fortunately for me, I was working from open studs so I just ended up moving it up higher on the wall to where I wanted it with the head I got.

Unscrew the shower head and arm. Take the arm into the hardware store and find a shower head with hose attached to it that is the same size as the end of the arm that screwed in. Also buy a small roll of teflon tape. They make different types of shower head holders that will allow you to mount the shower head anywhere on your shower wall. Wrap the end of the hose to be attached in the fitting with teflon tape. Screw in tightly. Mount the showerhead holder at the height that you feel will work the best. Enjoy

If you're renting an apartment or a house.....check with the landlord before changing ANYTHING.

One thing you can do is turn the little gooseneck sticking into the wall clockwise 180 degrees and you'll pick up another 6 inches or so. Make sure the shower head has enough swivel to point the right direction prior to doing so.

If you dont want to cut the wall behind the shower to raise it, try something like this

I'll take a pic and upload it when I get home tonight.

It is an apartment so I have to get anything approved and there can't be any cutting of pipes or walls.

Actually the landlord just gave me approval to change it.

Do shower heads have universal pipe fittings in the box?

I'd like to just stop at Lowes n the way home.

Typically, yes. But if it were me I'd take everything down before I bought one just to make sure it isn't some one off plumber fabricated deal. Because that's typically my luck.

Most do. However, I've seen some that have the showerhead built in (it has a ball on the end of the pipe coming from the wall and the showerhead fits over that). if that's the case, you would also have to replace the pipe with a standard one.

screw a handheld unit on that and put the hanger up high.

If no teflon tape rub a bar of soap around the threads.

I've never figured out why shower heads are placed that low. It's one of my biggest peeves in some hotels. If you put a shower head at 75 inches, it'll work for both tall people and short people. If you put it at 65 inches, it works only for short people. Is it really worth annoying people to save 10 inches of pipe?
