Well, here's the answer to a question I've had, regarding driver weight and the relative advantage or disadvantage. Why yes, it's Danica Patrick who's brought this to the forefront.

The NASCAR mandated minimum weight of the car (3300 lb) is based on a 180 lb driver. If a driver is anywhere between 170 to 140 lb, the weight difference must be added to the car. But 140 lb is at the low end of the rule; a lighter driver actually gets a freebie. So Patrick, 110 lb (and don't forget Mark Martin, 125 lb) theoretically have lighter cars than bigger drivers do, assuming all the cars are right at the minimum which isn't always the case.

What I don't see is if a big ol' boy such as Ryan Newman gets to remove weight from the car. Probably not, I think.

I think it is great that Dani became the first woman to qualify on the pole at NASCAR's most prestigious race: the Daytona 500.

However, don't you think Stewart/Haas Racing gave her the best equipment they have, along with a little help from the Fran$e Family to qualify (see plate size) ... In return, NASCAR gets an entire week of media attention around the world, which in turn, helps to boost ratings on Sunday.

Stewart/Haas Racing currently fields’ cars built and powered by Hendrick Motorsports, the organization that has won five-Cup championships in the past 10 years - not including Stewart’s Cup championship.
