Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com is reporting that the 49ers are leaning in the favor of not using the tag on safety Dashon Goldson.

“Whether we use the tag or not, I really don’t know at this point. I think I do know, but I’m not willing to share it at this time,” Baalke said.
It is also rumored that both sides are far apart on a long term deal and that Dashon Goldson will most likely hit the free agent market.

Collect two hundid and sign him Dorsey!

I can't believe the 49ers will let him get away.

He would look great in a Chief uniform.

Bo, you could've done so much better. Let's pick up Park Place to go with our Boardwalk and start building on it baby!

That monopoly bet had potential.

However, after seeing a few posts from Bo's pellini, I can't help but wish someone more creative was on the losing end.

We should definitely take a chance on him.

A chance? The guy is a force. You take a chance on someone like Ed Reed who is in the twilight of his career. You invest in a guy like this that is in his prime.

so we can't spend $20M a year on CB's but we can spend $20M a year on safeties

yeah I don't see this being realistic when we have a top 5 paid safety (if not highest paid) already

I will say I'm not against bringing in a veteran like this from a WINNING and TOUGH defense...

but I don't think it's realistic when we have a $60M safety already

Berry can be asked to restructure his deal, no? Frankly, none of the recent rookies should be making these insane contracts, and most of them should be asked to restructure to what's more inline with the current crop of kids.

so we can't spend $20M a year on CB's but we can spend $20M a year on safeties

define "we" though. The front office that wouldn't tie up that sorta cash in the secondary is gone. Maybe Dorsey has a different outlook that Pioli, and hopefully so!

You know it is a passing league...so investing in the secondary makes a lot of sense...unless you're an overrated douche who is willing to let a very good CB walk for no good reason.

I have no problem giving Goldson Weddle-like money and put him next to Berry, with Lewis and Abdullah for depth.

Just because the guy struggled in the outdated crappy tampa 2 defense doesn't mean he's done.

Could be good in our 3-4. Was great in the Niners 3-4. Could get him cheap.

Goldson-Abdullah-Branch is a great trio to go into the season with.

You could also argue that he only excelled in SF because of their front seven.

I'm not against signing him, but it better be cheaper than the tier 1 safeties that KC passed on last year.

Less run responsibility?
He played well in sf because he had whitner to let him roam. He's a bad coverage safety. He likes to look for the big hit, always takes too many penalties.

that's why bad safeties can excel in KC (Ron Parker, Abdullah, Kurt Coleman, etc) those guys aren't actually GOOD NFL safeties, it's basically fools gold, because of our front seven

that was my argument, a good front seven lets safeties like Goldson play well above their means

Good thing KC has a dynamic pass rush. Bring him in then.
