Cassel has better stats in almost every category than Smith. Cassel has had as many 400 yard games as smith has 300, 3. A big whopping 3 300 yard games in 75 starts. Chiefs fans take it like battered women. Smith was surround by piles of talent and will now be surrounded by piles of shit. I hate every person I interact with who has the nerve to even think smith is better than cassel. True fans have actually convinced themselves Smith is worthy of starting,. its a fuckig fail!!!

The packers won a Super Bowl with Brett Favre who was backup in Atlanta his rookie year. Matt Hasselbeck ,Mark Brunell and Rich Gannon were successful after being backups as well. Three of those guys were coached by Reid while he was in Green Bay so maybe there is hope. Probably not though.

Do that for me. We learned you good the last four years so you should know the difference between good and bad now.

49er fan here. Alex Smith isn't that bad. And if you look at the stats, from the point of the Eagles game and when Singletary was fired, Alex Smith has been pretty damn decent. With or without Harbaugh.

He was a young spread option QB with limited experience under center who was under the thumb of two ignorant defense minded head coaches. Compared to the fact that two of the greatest 'QB Gurus' have taken chances on Alex Smith now.

So the NFL has multiple years on the spread/pistol option that gave RGIII, Wilson, and Kap a leg up. And I doubt any new QB is going to have the same scheme bridge they had. I understand if you were pumped about there mere potential of Geno (or Barkley... if you're on that hill billy heroine), but give it some time to see what you have in Alex Smith. He didn't marry a cheer leader for his long bombs, but he can diagnose the blitz, read defenses, and create some defense saving drives.

Your franchise hasn't drafted a QB that has won a single game in 26 years. This year is an extremely weak QB draft class. I'm sorry, but did any of you watch Geno's entire season?

You're getting a young, healthy, starting caliber QB who has been to the playoffs recently. He is top-tier against the rush, can diagnose defense better than anyone, but he can't throw a perfect touch on the deep ball.

How exactly are you guys so entitled?

It'd actually be amusing for you all to sweat for 2-3 more months, and maybe even have it take a handful of weeks for Alex to adjust through preseason.

But I'll go ahead and say this again. Alex is a top 15 QB. Easy. He's a well played veteran at 29 and will work extremely well with Andy Reid. At this point he's a more athletic Peyton Manning. It's idiotic the shit some people are saying. Cassel was horrible and this guy is worse but somehow people think he is better. I just dont get it. The niners win half of the games Smith started last year if smith never throws a single td. The guy won because his team won. 5 year starters;

A lot of those receivers were wide open, but one thing you take away from that video is that his accuracy is a huge step up from Cassel, especially beyond 10 yards. Smith's arm is at least respectable, though certainly his arm strength is not elite, you could call it average NFL arm strength, IMO. His mobility and pocket presence are certainly better and will be an asset.

My main concern with Alex Smith is his ability to stay healthy. He was sacked a ton of times in those lackluster seasons in SF, and I think we will be able to protect him better.

It is a start.

you guys are insane. Alex smith is way better than cassel and alex is still barely good. Cassel is the last qb i'd take out of the 32 startesr last year.

Most of the arguments against smith such as the middle stats all hinge on the years more than 3 years ago before there was any competent coaching in SF, when a carousel of coordinators and systems was spinning.

We WILL be the first team to win a Superbowl with a QB that we traded for that was someone elses backup. It was Lamar Hunts dream that never got fulfilled and Clark is here to make sure the dream lives on.

Yeah he is a top 15 Qb and so is Matt Cassel.

Matt Cassel - 58.9 completion %, 13,495 yards, 82 TD, 57 INT, 24 Fumbles, 80.4 Passer Rating

Alex Smith - 59.3 completion %, 14,280 yards, 81 TD, 63 INT, 36 Fumbles, 79.1 Passer Rating

LOL. its amazing to me how dense some of you on this board are. You want to use alex smiths stats under the likes of singletary, jimmy raye, jeff hostler, and mike nolan, without just taking the stats under an offensive coach.

I think if you took a look at that, you might feel a little bit better

I'll use his stats over the last two seasons.

In Alice Smith's last 2 seasons he has thrown for over 300yds once. He has thrown for over 250yds just five times. TERRIBLE. Matt Cassel has done better.

Last season he had a "amazing" 70% completion rate. He only threw the ball over 10yds 43 times compared to MATT FUCKING CASSEL'S 96!

ALICE SMITH IS NOTHING!

There are only two statistical categories where Alice is superior to Matt Cassel, wins(product of his team), and INT's(Cassel had one historically bad year).

Trying to tell me Alice is better than Matt b/c he throws less INT's is like telling me I'm better off hiring a pedophile than a child murderer to babysit my kid b/c when I get home my kid won't be dead...FUCK YOU!

One would think the more relevant stats would be from the past 2 years as opposed to their entire careers. One QB appears on the way up while the other is clearly down.

You one way or the other, suffer from short man syndrome or small penis syndrome. You are so consumed with the size of the throw. he doesnt turn the ball over. your weak qbs turned the ball over 29 times. 29!!!!! If you cant equate how not turning the ball over leads to success, then i cant help you. I wouldnt expect a turd with Ricky Stanzi in his signature to fully grasp the positives that alex smith can bring. yay, matt cassell chucks the ball down the field. GREAT. how did that work out for him? Alex Smith gets the ball into his play makers hands. thats why he was second in the league in YARDS PER ATTEMPT........

He only threw the ball over 10 yards 43 times? Wow. Then I have to ask how many games did he play? I know he got injured and Kapernick took over for the remainder. But yeah, those 300 yard game figures and wins record against good teams is a little scary. I'm still holding out hope that we draft a QB to groom.

Ok, honest question; are you comparing 8 years of stats (Smith) to 4 years of stats (Cassel)?

heathramos

Alex Smith is better than Cassel but he did have a great oline and solid running game in SF.

I think the KC will win more games with him next year if they use him right.

He needs a strong running game and play action in order to be effective.

If Reid passes a hundred times a game, he will get killed and will turn the ball over.

As far as the amount of yards he has thrown, they will obviously be low if your offense is based off the run game and you play with a lead. If you are behind all the time, your attempts and yards go up.

Of course that probably means his interception numbers are lower as a result as well.

Thank the lord the NFL is headed towards a league that emphasizes running the football and utilizing play-action instead of passes down the field. Woooo!
