Vikings released CB Antoine Winfield.

It's a financial move, perhaps setting the table for a run at Mike Wallace. Winfield played 94 percent of the snaps last season, grading out as ProFootballFocus' best run-defending corner and also allowing zero touchdowns in the passing game. But he declined a paycut, so the Vikings made the questionable decision to save $7.25 million and move on from their best cornerback. Although Winfield is entering his age-36 season, he'll find plenty of interest on the open market as a physical slot corner and potential team leader

If NE doesn't resign Arrington, I could see that being a good fit potentially.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports members of the Vikings' organization "aren't thrilled" with GM Rick Spielman's decision to cut Antoine Winfield.

Winfield has been the best slot corner in football several seasons running. "It's a move backwards," is how one club official characterized the move. Despite his age -- 36 in June -- Winfield immediately becomes a top-ten cornerback available in free agency. We'd rank them like this: 1) Aqib Talib 2) Sean Smith 3) Brent Grimes 4) Winfield 5) Keenan Lewis 6) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie 7) Derek Cox 8) Chris Houston 9) Antoine Cason 10) DeAngelo Hall

yea but this Vikings GM is making bigger holes for that team than there needs to be.

and it's not like the team is 100 percent young. So now they have half a team with old veterans, half a team with young unproven guys and the league MVP coming of his best season ever. So like how are they going to even come close to fielding a win now team with no CBs, no WRs, etc. trying to be cheap

so they splash for a WR like Mike Wallace and then that still leaves them without the best run stopping CB in the NFL, and some slapdick like Chris Cook has to man the position and get beat like a drum

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh lord...I thought I just read that the Vikings were going to make a play for Mike Wallace and actually cut their best CB to make that possible.

Yeah, like cutting your best corner so you can go get a deep threat to pair with a QB that can't throw it 40 yards downfield would be a move that a playoff team would make. That's just silly.

{re-reads OP....passes out}

NFL teams are run by idiots.
