It was well known that Peterson wanted to get Young. He tried several times to get him. Young was a stud in the USFL when Peterson was the GM of the Philadelphia Stars.

Neither article says that Peterson was trying to trade Thomas for Young. All the "evidence" so far suggests that in 1989/1990, San Francisco tried to trade their as of yet unproven backup QB for Thomas.
