USA vs Mexico at 9:30 on ESPN. Coverage starts an hour before.

Huge game...odds are stacked against the USMNT but they have a lot of momentum whereas Mexico has been sputtering in the Hex. Two Kansas City players representing the US tonight as Graham Zusi is a probably starter in midfield and it even looks like Matt Besler could possibly start at CB.

Any KC'ers want to get in on a watch party Johnny's Tavern (downtown) will be full with US fans and the American Outlaws tonight.

I'm still pissed from last time when Davies scored a nice goal to put the US up 1-0. And then we blew it. And then he went and ended his career. I hate this game because I love it. You win - it's amazing. But you know the entire time that you'll probably not and it'll be shit.

It's true Men's soccer is more intense and exciting, but when your country's team looks middle of the road when it matters, in the actual World Cup, it gets a little tiresome and you move on to the ones who are winning.

So what exactly is at stake tonight? I'm definitely watching..

It's world cup qualifying in the "hex". Every team plays each other once at home, and once away. A win is 3 points, a draw one point for each team, and a loss obviously 0. The top three teams advance to the world cup. The fourth place team has to play a playoff game against some one. The rest go home.

Aside from that, it's Mexico. At Azteca. It's a massive game for both teams. This home/away is the biggest game they'll play in four years, aside from the world cup.

That's the thing. I'm straight ****ing convinced that MLS/US Soccer is the best in the world. It's just that, the majority of America doesn't think so, the results don't really show it, and most people are indifferent to US soccer as a whole.

I think it's easy for us to believe that if soccer were the most popular sport in this country, that we'd win every world cup. I disagree. I think that would be the great equalizer, and we'd certainly be better, but I'm not so sure we'd dominate at every level.

So true, look at what Spain has in place just for Barcelona alone. That's hundreds of years in the making and it's damn near perfected for building what you guys referenced earlier; chemistry. It would take a cultural shift beyond just ascension of soccers popularity to our top sport.

Sheer statistical probability doesn't necessarily mean success, though. Otherwise, China, India,.Pakistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh would be world powerhouses. Soccer is a tough thing to really understand in that way. But I think overall we'd be the best because we have all the resources of the European nations, the athleticism that has always helped Brazil /Argentina, and the population to find the best of the best. I just don't expect a miracle that sees all these things come together. The best thing USA has going for it right now is the success of MLS. You've got to get the youth interested in soccer as something you continue playing past age 10.

Imagine you're playing chess against Bobby Fisher, but you can't take any pieces off the board..You have to move a piece every time but you just cant take any off. give him a couple weeks to learn. Think he could still beat you? I do. Soccer is just like that. The pieces may all still be on the board, but the situation is completely different, and your opponent has had time to understand how you play, and devised a strategy with that in mind, to beat you. This is a chess game, not basketball.

Our countries dedication to college and an education (which is great) is actually one of the big reasons we are so behind.

In those other countries. Kids play the game...they get in an academy when they are young and by the time they college aged they have been focusing solely on the game for a decade. They should already be producing at a high level in a solid club if they are not already in the mix for their national team.

Meanwhile our kids focus on their education...high school...college...while playing. Their lives are not all soccer.

Oh, I understand fine. They were in the exact same place when they finished as when they started.

It also sounds like Mexico dominated the possession and had the most opportunities to score. Maybe that's a win in your book, and if owning third world countries en route to qualifying for, but never coming close to winning, the World Cup is your standard, then that right there is why USMNT will never be considered relevant.

So 3 games left? Who are our next victims?

3? Try 7.

3 games down, 6 team table, home and away vs each.

The next game is June 7 at Jamaica.

The offense was pathetic. Were there even ANY shots on goal? I don't recall any.

Offensively:
Altidore: nothing besides a few lay offs
Dempsey: nothing
Gomez: nothing
Zusi: nothing
Edu: nothing
Johnson: nothing
Davis: nothing
Bradley: The only real threat i remember all night was when Altidore laid off to Bradley and he ALMOST squeaked through

This team misses Donvan a lot.

With that being said, the defense looked amazing considering the insane injury troubles and the D's makeshift nature

Yeah I noticed he did that once tonight. I was like...dude, you're in Mexico...get up.

First of all, prick, I'm not trolling. The only thing I joked about was the picture comment and that I wanted them to get 3 points every game. Other than that I was totally serious. Oh and the drug enhancements thing I added in one post. You need to get off me and be like some other posters on here who don't get bent out of shape from something like this and talk to me like a person. In turn I'll talk to them the same way.

Haha I think you have me confused with someone else. I'm not bent out of shape in the slightest. I honestly thought it was obvious you were trying to troll, but if those are your actual takes, then keep on truckin buddy. Makes no difference to me.

It is obvious they went there to keep most of the team back to defend and come back with a point. Mission accomplished. There was never a serious attack on the Mexican goal. I don't think we ever had more than two forwards against 5 or six defending Mexicans there.

The only sport where playing not to lose is acceptable.

Acceptable by whom? Has nothing to do with any sport. It's a strategy. I happen to not like it. But I can see their reasoning. You are playing on the home turf of a formidable opponent who is SUPPOSED to beat you there. By adopting this strategy you gain a point nobody expects you to win and you reduce your opponent's gain from a sure 3 points to just one point. Again it has NOTHING TO DO with the sport. If you are a Soccer hater, find another point to argue. This one was lame.

That was a good game for a 0-0 game, the USA Goalie saved their asses a few times or more then a few. It won't be long before the USA National Anthem is boo's in a USA venue.

I actually think that they wanted to try but they just couldn't

Acceptable by everyone who has provided commentary on the matter.

It has everything to do with the sport, and what you just described was indeed a strategy which employed playing not to lose.

You effectively elaborated on my point, then said my point was lame. :doh!:
