Worked there when I was a kid, still like the taste of the chicken but damn they have to be the most expensive fast food restaurant in America...

They are ok, but i prefer Churchs and Popeyes nowdays.

BTW, alot of Fast Food has gotten expensive. You can spend 7 or 8 bucks on a meal at McDonalds. Thats nearly as much as an Applebees or Chilis meal.

Yeah it use to be good. I still like the famous bowls. We eat there probably about 3 times a year though.

We have a southern place here called J's Place best chicken and waffle joint in town. We go there if we want fried chicken. I go for the greens and fried cabbage.

KFC and Popeye's have pretty much priced themselves out of all sanity, so I don't go to them anymore. If I need a fast food chicken fix, Chick-Fil-A is my destination of choice.

You definitely need a coupon to make KFC competitive in the marketplace. Otherwise it's stupid expensive for what it is.

And yes, the pieces have gotten smaller. It's been quite a while since I've eaten there, but I was wondering if it was pigeon pieces.

Yea when I was a kid and worked there it was the oil change that made the difference in the taste of the chicken...

Back in the day that big pressure cooker would hold 75 gallons of oil it seemed and they had a cool filtering process that actually took those burnt flour residue and caught it in this cloth filter and it hardened and looked like fudge in a pan... That is what the gravy is made out of..

Really? Do you know how much of each so a guy might be able to knock out a batch. I would rather make it myself because the staff at the local KFC looks like Americas Most Wanted. I have a feeling they could give two shits about washing their hands after hitting the head. Anytime I can avoid playing fast food roulette, I'm on it.

If you've ever seen a clone recipe for KFC Cole Slaw floating around on the Internet it probably looks like this. That's because this replica has become one of the most copied and pasted recipes from my first book, Top Secret Recipes. So, to stake claim to a recipe that's rarely sourced as a TSR original, here's the secret formula to clone the world's best slaw.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
8 cups finely chopped cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 cup shredded carrot (1 medium carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onion

1. Be sure cabbage and carrots are chopped up into very fine pieces (about the size of rice).

2. Combine the mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and beat until smooth.

3. Add the cabbage, carrots, and onion, and mix well.

4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serves 10 to 12.

KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN COLESLAW

1/4 c. oil
1/4 c. tarragon vinegar
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Miracle Whip
1 head cabbage, shredded
1 or 2 carrots, shredded
1 tsp. celery seeds

Mix first 5 ingredients together. Beat 10 minutes. Pour over cabbage. allow to sit at least two hours in the fridge or overnight for better result.

1/4 c. tarragon vinegar

On a side note, what's up with the Frenchy flit boy "tarragon vinegar?" There is no way in hell that they use that in their run of the mill batch of KFC slaw. Correct me if I'm wrong R8ers.

Well, regular folks like us don't have access to the variety of chemicals and flavoring compounds that the food scientists at KFC have. The tarragon vinegar is probably meant to get close to something that you can't quite reproduce at home.

I was like 14 when I worked there and we would use a 50lb bag of cabbage to make it so the ingredients below besides the cabbage has to be in real small amounts

I remember Miracle whip , cabbage (a few dark green leaves for color) some onion, carrots , regular apple cider vinegar, Sugar... a little salt

I ate there as a kid with my grandfather on a regular basis, but haven't been to one in years. Somewhere around the time the chicken went from a nice and dry covering to a greasy mess they lost the occasional bucket for the game or family gathering business as well.

The local KFC went out of business a few years ago and I'm not sure anyone even complained.

For instance one of my VERY favorite things to eat is a sausage egg and cheese croissant from BK. I rank that right up there with filet mignon. And yes I know I know I'm just saying it's personal preference and i love that shit.

What's wrong with that? Don't hide... There's are way too many people who think there's a correlation between cost and good. Bah! To this day, my mother's pasta, with HER sauce (yeah she learned how to make it when we lived in Rome!) and meat-loaf will often be what I want. I think Flank steak is hands-down the best cut of meat on a cow, and pulled pork - while always full of flavors NOT the pork - are better than most $70 entrées.

The other truth, really expensive cuts of beef.....only need heat to be as good as they're going to get. They are good (love them!!), but it's an easy cook...

Oh, and add bacon to anything and it's better!

Guess so, I eat chicken sometimes but cannot stand the taste of sweet tea~

My family is pretty freaking southern and we are about 50/50 on preferring sweet or unsweetened tea. At the family reunion with a sampling of over 100 folks, it's the same. Lately one of my cousins does some nasty raspberry splenda bullshit sacrilege that has caught on with some of the sweet drinkers

I'm unsweetened only.

I can see it. Here it is from another source

https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=116252175065862

You really have a book?

They kept them in a huge freezer at the distribution center... Back in the day every manager would deliver dry goods to the local KFC's here, one guy owened about 6 or 7 but sometimes I would get to go help deliver those frozen rolls and the truck did not have air conditioning so we put several cases of those frozen rolls in the front seat and you had instant air conditioning...

This is true and no April fools day BS

These were dinner rolls one layer in a plastic bag kinda like the onces you get in the grocery, when you got a 3 piece meal or anything they would put a couple rolls in there too

You don't get the quality at KFC anymore but at one time, there was not a better tasting piece of fried chicken on the planet unless grandma made it...

When I was a kid and worked there the chicken was huge pieces and we had customers just come in and get a chicken snack box with one center breast and a roll for lunch.

The chickens now are so small it is actually comical... Whole chicken prices have went up but KFC gets a helluva deal on whole cut up chickens.

We do KFC from time to time. My youngest son LOVES the place, so he's always rooting for it. The rest of us don't mind it, but a couple of KFCs near us are also Taco Bells, so people can get whichever they prefer.

Most of my family is a big fan of the mashed potatoes. Well, it's really the gravy that we like.

Personally, I'd be just as happy to never eat any fast food again. I'm sick of the stuff.

This sums up how I feel about all of it, not just McD's.

Couple things i hate about KFC...

1) HUGE breasts, tiny little legs that are mostly bone... wtf kinda chickens are they raising over there in china for "yum brand foods"?

2) there isnt a greasier, limper piece of chicken in america, that steam fry method of theirs sucks... it turns what should be crispy, delectable skin into some kind of glue-like substance.

3) exorbitant pricing, 10 pieces and a couple crap sides for $20+... get ****ed.

For fast food chicken, i'll take Popeyes eleven times out of ten... much crispier and has a nice tang to it.

KFC on Quivira just south of 95th has all-you-can-eat buffet from 11am-8pm for $8 (pre-tax). Includes drink. Original and Crispy are on the buffet. You can ask for the Grilled Chicken and they will get you some from the warmer. All sides are also available. I don't think you can get nuggets/tenders/sandwiches or anything like that. Sadly, the Lemon Cakes and Chocolate Cakes are not included.

Not a bad deal considering you can have as much chicken as you want. But it's only this location as far as I know.

Surprisingly, when my family of four goes to KFC, we spend just over $20. That’s cheaper for us than McD’s, Chick-fil-A, etc. It’s not till we go to Five Guys that I notice a huge upswing in price. One of my boys won’t eat there, so for 3 of us, that place usually runs over $30.

KFC Original is pretty damn tasty when driving thru a place

Cole Slaw is always decent.

Fuck the Butter Sauce and Honeyish Packets. I add real butter and honey to their biscuits. Pretty fucking good with the chicken

At this point KFC is underrated. Its a hell of a lot better than Churches

Maybe repost... don't know.

Maybe you should change your name to Larder.

:) It wouldn't be accurate.

$8 is pretty good for even the moderate chicken meals I usually eat. Unfortunately I usually buy a lemon cake, which makes it not nearly such a good deal.

It's all in the spicy chicken

Their reg chicken is okay, but spicy takes it to another level. That gives it the nod over KFC imo.
