not to be sick and twisted ('twisted'....Get it? ), but I love severe storm season.

granted, I won't if one is every bearing down on my house; just the overall weather perspective etc. I find it interesting.

and before anyone flames me, 'no', I don't enjoy seeing any carnage.

yeah; again, I'm not talking about liking it from a 'let's watch the damage'. Simply find how the weather works up leading up to it etc. Just find it amazing.

of course, I wouldn't find it as amazing if I'm getting sucked up into one. at least not with out my phone so I can tweet everyone.

It's an interesting time of year. This cold rain we are having now could help limit the amount of severe storms later. Southern Kansas and Oklahoma look to be the bullseye today.

If you live in Joplin, this is, not so much....

I was going to say that I had a pretty healthy apathy toward storm season until Joplin. After decades of living in Kansas, it forever changed my perspective on tornadoes.

Be safe, everyone.

I agree with Dayze. Had the back half of our roof ripped away by one in 2008 and still find it amazing, and kinda cool.
The coolest thing was that the roof over the dining room was gone, but part of the stuff in the room (including on the table where I had been sitting working on bills) looked undisturbed......freaky stuff.

I would sit outside and watch the crazy force of mother nature. I was always intrigued by these massing storms. Never scared.

I wouldn't go chase them, but I would always want to step out and see if I could get a peek at one.

Was at a GF's house back in the day during that Lawrence, KS tornado around 2003 or so (give or take?). My ex GF threw a panic attack and started crying cause I ran outside. It's like bitch, I wanna see the fucking tornado shut up, we're over

Lost power here in Independence for almost 3 hours. Trees and limbs down, my street is blocked by a tree laying across the street. Big time wind front. Rained like hell for about 20 minutes, then everything calmed down. Big mess to clean up tomorrow. My house and yard seems to be OK. Grateful for that. Looks like they just issued a regular tornado watch for KC. Most of the forcecasts I have heard are saying the worst will likely hit to the east of the KC metro. The National Weather Service along with some other sources have said the intensity could be worse if we get sunlight between the rounds of storms.

This is why, generally speaking, Fox wins. Politics aside it really helps when the female half of the group delivering the news is hot, it helps.

And for my liberal friends, don't throw the like of Rachel Maddow out there. Just don't... She's just very unfair and very imbalanced.

Come on, I'm not an idiot. I get that, but when there's a rotating storm that's just how it's going to be. It's amazing to me people who live in the middle of tornado alley don't understand it. Just look at the video of the Joplin tornado. It went from "scary looking clouds" to a mile wide in like a minute. No tornado in Joplin. Went just to our north.

Smacked the shit out of quapaw and Baxter though. Friends in Baxter are alright but house is shot. Daughter and grandbaby live in Sarcoxie so there were a few tense moments before (what I attribute to a miraculous answer to my prayers) it suddenly shifted due north on the west side of town.

Hopefully all you and yours are safe and sound. Maybe the Salvation Army can help those affected by releasing the other 3.8 million dollars collected for the Joplin tornado.

I have a place at Grand lake. Would have been driving home through Quapa and Baxter today but stayed home this weekend for a party that ended up being canceled. Glad your people are ok. Some good pictures and videos on Facebook.

Oddly enough my grandma now lives in Grove as a result of the Joplin tornado destroying her house. I called her tonight and all she could focus on was the chance of a bad storm. (91 year old woman who, as best as I could tell, hasn't been scared of anything) Broke my heart.

I'm glad that you didn't take that ride home and are safe. It's odd the little moments that make such a huge difference. For example, in the Joplin tornado I was sick. Wound up being an hour late for work and leaving 3 hours early. Had I been feeling good that day and all went as planned I would have been traveling the same roads at the exact same time as it hit.

Sixteen confirmed dead (and counting) on the "Little Rock" tornado. Vilonia and Mayflower, two towns within spitting distance of my hometown of Conway were both devastated.

Vilonia got leveled 3 years ago by a tornado.
Mayflower was the town where the big oil spill happened a couple of years ago that destroyed Lake Conway.

These folks can't catch a break. All my family members in the area are fine, but I haven't started hearing reports on names, yet. Will likely know some of the deceased and definitely a lot of the displaced.

Not her pics but my daugher is going to school Studying meteorology and yesterday was the first day she rode alone with the Storm Chasers. She was in Quapaw when it hit. I thought she was just going to be arround KC. Damn kids had to worry about her in Iraq and her husband in Afghanistan now she is out chasing effing tornados. Jebus these kids are going to kill me.

Alabama getting pounded tonight

I still don't know the extent of the damage in south Tuscaloosa. Probably minor damage is my guess. Lots of flooding here though.

I live in S Tuscaloosa. Had one pass about 2 miles or so south of here. Lots of trees uprooted, power lines down, etc. One death confirmed; retaining wall collapsed on a 21 year old male taking shelter in a basement

That's how long I've been in Tuscaloosa too: long enough for my first and last years living here to be bookended by tornadoes. Strange stuff.

There is a wall cloud northeast of KC right around Orrick.
