Depends on whether we see Reid run his system the same as he has in years past with Donovan McNabb.

If he adjusts and runs a more conventional West Coast system, then I see potetially 9 wins, at best.

If he continues to incorporate more of the downfield passing in his system, then 5 wins is the best I would expect to see.

Depends whether or not Reid is going to use the running game.

I don't think that matters. Jamaal Charles is going to get a lot of touches, it's just that a lot more will be in the passing game.

I believe we can win 10 games this year just by limiting turnovers and better coaching, plus the defense can be a special unit with the new scheme

HemiEd
04-28-2013, 06:25 AM
Unlike a lot of posters on here, I think this team had a lot of talent except at the most important position, and didn't lose too much ground to the field the last four days.

It had the worst coaching staff probably ever assembled, with the worst possible QBs behind center.

10-6 with a first round wild card loss. woot woot

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

With a decent organizational culture, front office, coaching staff, and a top half/top third QB, this is probably an 8-8 team the first year.

I'm thinking 8 - 8 or 0-16
We play the Jags week 1. If we can't win that then cancel the team flight back to KC. Forfeit the remainder of the games. Fire Dorsey/Reid with cause for purposefully Hue Jacksoning us by going all in on a marginal NFL starter.

I vote for 9-7, we got a little lucky on the home/road games and have a good stretch in the middle of the season to build confidence. I'm not sure that 9-7 makes the playoffs, but we could sneak in an extra win at the end to creep in.

I'm not kidding. That team has a LOT of offensive weapons now, and their D was already pretty good.

This is a tough matchup for a team installing new systems on offense and defense. Our D could get destroyed in Jacksonville, and Alex Smith ain't gonna cope well with that.

They aren't doing shit. Their defense got 20 sacks last year. 20.

The only real pass rushing threat they have is Jason Babin. Albert and Fisher on the edge are gonna own those fools.

something is obviously wrong with this curve, and i think i know what it is...

if it was correct, it would likely have the most probable outcome be the most common (call it C), and have a more or less bell shaped decreasing curve based on the absolute value of the distance from C...( in other words c+x should roughly equal C-x),

here we have a build up to C, then a cliff-like drop when you get to C+1 or C+2 where you have C+2 being equal to about a third of what c-2 is, and c+3 is equal to about 1/16th of c-3

that should tell you how the curve is fucked up

Actually Eric Berry had a great game against Mercedes Lewis in 2010.

I'm not "scared" of the Jags. Their QB is Blaine Gabbert, their defense has the worst pass rush in the league and their secondary is filled with rookies.

In fact, I'm willing to bet that this might be Alex Smith's best game of the year.

I don't have a clue at this point what to expect. But...

Last season we scored 96 points in the first half of games. That is an even average of 6 points per game for a 16 game schedule.

44 of those 96 points came in 3 games. 17 twice, and 10 once.

That leaves 52 points for the other 13 games for an even 4 points a game average in those games.

We were damn near unwatchable last season. In fact, I even missed part of one game while I watched the dude parachute from the edge of space.

So. I really don't give a crap what we do this season record wise. I just want a team that can compete week in and week out. If we wind up 9-7, make the playoffs, and are a first round loser in the playoffs, I'll be frickin' ecstatic!

I would agree with this. And while I don't want to turn another thread into a QB debate, most here thought Kyle Orton could have led this team to playoff contention last season. Pioli wouldn't have any competition for his boy Cassel though, so Orton took his ball and went to Dallas.

Enter Alex Smith. Though not what most here wanted, his stats a damn near identical to Orton's, and I would think he could be much better long term than Orton. I think Reid and Dorsey are banking on that fact... as am I.

And I know my expectations of last years team were much higher when Orton did what he did at the end of the 2011 season... without Charles and Moeaki.

I wanted to go with 10, then I went through the schedule a few times and just cannot get there.

I struggle to get to 9, truth be told. You need them to beat the Texans at home, Dallas at home, Indy at home or steal a divisional road game. Those are doable, but if I'm betting one way or the other, I don't bet in favor of any of them actually happening. And that's if you think they'll sweep the division at home and beat the Eagles and Bills on the road.

10 wins is a much tougher haul than folks are wanting to realize.

Fat Elvis

Lol @ everytime I see someone punch in a ten win season.

WTF makes you think we have a ten win team?

5-1 within the division: Faid and Chargers are gonna be horrible, split with Donks
5 wins outside division: Jags, Eagles, Titans, Browns, Bills

Contrary to popular belief, I believe that ASmith will be a really, really good fit for Reid's system and might even be a franchise QB.

Our defense will be stout and will improve significantly in ranking if for no other reason than they will be off the field much more than last year. Everyone says that ASmith is nothing more than a game manager, so if he is even that, not only will our defense be rested, but their backs won't always be against the wall due to our offense continually turning the ball over.

If you look at SF time of possession and defensive rankings under ASmith, stats will bear this out. I think the best defensive player on the 49ers was ASmith; once Kape took over, not only did the time of possession battle narrow, but SFs defensive rankings sank. People say that ASmith benefited from a stout defense, but I think the defense also really benefited from a QB that a) didn't turn the ball over, and b) kept the O on the field for a long time.

Our O was a turnover machine last year. It really screwed all aspects of the team.

I also think the pieces we have in place on Offense are Andy Reid's wet dream. Our O-line will be a WALL. Just about any QB back there will be able to sit down a play a game of marbles before they feel any pressure from the D. Give ASmith some time, and he will carve you up. It may not be big chunks of yards, but he will be methodical. ASmith will also have some VERY big targets to throw the ball to as well--big guys who can get YAC. And lets not forget Charles. This guy is a threat to take it to the house every single time he touches the ball.

I don't know if we are necessarily deep yet, but we are stacked with high quality starters. The only real question at all is along the D-Line; we really don't know what we have there given our move to a more aggressive defensive philosophy. Personally, I'd like to see what a Poe-Powe combo could do. Powe didn't seem to get much playing time under Romeo because he really didn't understand his assignments, but when he was turned loose, he was really pretty disruptive. Poe, well, I thought he did just fine last year- better than expected. He was drafted for his disruptive potential, let's let him use it.

I don't think 10-6 is out of the question at all.

Look, we actually have coaches who now stop practices and teach players the right way to do things when they screw up.

We won't be the greatest show on turf, however, we won't be run, run, pass, punt either. We will be slinging the rock and pounding asses into the ground.
