Video: Intended victim takes shotgun from armed robber in New Orleans

Jay Vise Reporting

The NOPD is asking for the public's help in finding an armed robber who found himself on the run after the victim turned the tables.

Investigators say the whole thing was captured on surveillance video. (Scroll down to view the video.)

Police say the would-be robber walked up to the wold-be victim Saturday morning just after 5:00 a.m. in the 1900 block of Burgundy Street and demanded money. The video shows the robber pointing a shotgun at the victim's face at close range.

The video shows the victim then yanking the shotgun away from the robber and giving chase. According to police, the victim was approached moments later by two black males in a black four door sedan. The victim told police that the driver of the car said, "give me my gun back and I’ll give you your phone that you dropped."

An NOPD spokesman says the intended victim declined to return the shotgun back to the robber, but instead used the weapon to strike and knock out the rear windshied of the vehicle. Police say the two suspects fled on Frenchmen to St. Claude and then to parts unknown.

The gunman is described as an African American male, approximately 16-20 years of age, 6' tall with a thin build, wearing a black hat and a black t-shirt. Police say the vehicle is possibly a Honda Accord.

Anyone with information about this attempted robbery is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Rule #4 in armed robbery. Don't enter your victims personal space with your weapon.

This has to be fake as shit, the guy gets a shotgun cocked 3 feet from his head and barely turns around or reacts? Zero reaction from the "victim" about a shotgun in his face, he doesn't even look the slightest bit unnerved at any point. Also, sober guy just rolling the streets at 5am in NOLA? I never underestimate the stupidity of thugs, but I have never been around guns or hunting and even I know that a shotgun would be most effective and safe with a 5-10 foot cushion from intended target, putting a gun an inch from someone's face is always a really good way to get your gun nabbed and probably get yourself killed.

Sassy Squatch

LMAO. How stupid would they have to be to just roll back up on him and ask for his gun back.

Good for him...but I've got $20 cash in my pocket, a few credit cards I can cancel before he can do any damage, a cell phone paid for by my office with a lockout code and a fully insured car.

Fuck that, I'm not risking getting shot in the face for any of that crap. Involve a spouse or kid and it may change the calculus, but otherwise, it's all yours champ. I have guns in the house, I know how to use them and I have a my .40 in the nightstand for home protection, but that cat just flat got the drop on you.

You win. Have my $20 and I'll go home, pet the dogs, nail the wife and wake up the next morning no worse for wear.

Rest of the story:
Police are investigating a similar incident that occurred just around the corner, in the 800 block of Touro Street (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=800+Touro+Street,+New+Orleans,+LA&hl=en&ll=29.964871,-90.058419&spn=0.004712,0.009527&sll=29.965430,-90.059062&layer=c&cbp=13,287.49,,0,19.74&cbll=29.965425,-90.059044&gl=us&hnear=800+Touro+St,+New+Orleans,+Louisiana+70116&t=m&z=17&iwloc=A&panoid=9xOxltZ1dRd_tMfakNeGJw), on Friday about 12:30 a.m.
In that incident, a man walking in the street was approached by two men who appeared to be in their early 20s, one of whom pointed a shotgun at the pedestrian. The two assailants hit the man three times, but the victim was able to escape without giving up his property, although he suffered minor injuries, police said.
The gunman in that incident was described as 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build and a dark complexion. He was wearing dark clothing. The other attacker was described as being about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a medium build and bushy hair. He was wearing a light-colored shirt.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact NOPD 8th District Detective Michael Flores at 504.658.6707 or MFlores@nola.gov. Citizens with tips can also call CrimeStoppers at 504.822.1111.

Now that's crazy, but yea if you have a shotgun no need to shove in their face! Still the intended victim is lucky this happened in New Orleans, if it had happened in NYC he would have been arrested for illegal possession of a firearm after he took the shotgun!

Like I said - if he wanted to shoot you, he'd have done it already. The guy came up behind you; if he was indifferent towards murder, he wouldn't have you turn around.

And that other guy was so proud of it too. Showing off that late at night was a bad idea.

Looks like the guys fight or flight senses kicked in when the shotgun was lowered to the side briefly. Try to pull that shit here and you better intend to shoot as you will most likely have return fire especially from me.
